About
The beach in East Looe sits directly in front of the old town, sheltered from the west by the famous Banjo Pier and overlooked from the east by the hillside of Mount Ararat. Owned and maintained by East Looe Town Trust, East Looe beach is a good family beach that has something for everyone. At low tide there is a large gently sloping sandy beach which is generally safe for swimming, although it is always recommended to check the weather and water quality conditions. The beach backs on to the promenade that runs the length of the beach all the way to ‘Second Beach’ just to the east. The rock / sand beach here is a great spot to get away from the crowds and good for snorkelling. The main beach is closed to dogs however you are welcome to allow your dogs to enjoy the Second Beach. The promenade itself has plenty of benches to sit and relax on, and beautiful flowerbeds that are maintained by Looe in Bloom all year round. On our promenade you will also find a free water refill station.

- SophiebrittonChelmsford, United Kingdom13 contributionsGreat BeachThis is such a great beach and ideal for families. It is very clean and seems very safe. We went a few times on our trip and loved spending the day when it was hot and exploring the pier and next bay when it was cooler. The only downside is parking we parked at the millpond car park but it is a bit of a walk with a toddler and beach gear for the day.Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 15 May 2024

It starts the day spotless, there are great facilities around and it is safe to swim. The only slight downside is that on a sunny day it gets packed.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 16 August 2024
- DCharlotte2462 contributionsWonderful beachWonderful Sandy beach that is clean and well maintained. The sea was still pretty chilly in august but you can rent kayaks to have a go. 10 minute walk from the long stay car park which can get very busy in peak season so get there early. The beach is close to lots of shops and cafes which is ideal. Public toilets are 20p and you can pay by card. We would recommend this beach to families, just be aware it gets busier from around 11ish and not enough space to play ball games after this time really.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 28 August 2024
- T DLiskeard, United Kingdom7 contributionsLovely little town full of character and a great place to make memories for families through the generationsLovely little beach which has banned dogs so be aware if you have one but there is a dog friendly one in the other side of the river at Hannafore. This does mean the beach is completely safe from any dog poos so great for families and sunbathers. It’s a fine sandy beach and has several little ice cream shops nearby but watch the seagulls as they’re savage and take no prisoners. Guard your pastime with your life :D! Looe is a beautiful little town with so much history and lots of lovely little nooks and crannies to explore and the people are super friendly and welcoming.Visited September 2024Travelled with familyWritten 20 September 2024

I have been visiting East Looe since I was 6 yr old, It a small fishing town filled with local B& B and hotels, there's something for everyone, I don’t think its lost any of its charm despite Covid, very busy today, if you want a boat ride or go fishing worth checking the tide times to avoid disappointment, the beach is situated right next to the RNLI station, there is a beach prohibition on dogs. There are toilets very close to the sea front and i did see a shower not sure if it was working, even mid way through the day the beach was not congested and at low tide you have a lot of room, if you want something hot to eat, its a stone throw away. You can park in East Looe but I recommend you use the main car park Millpool across from Looe bridge, there is also a single electric charging point there you can park using an App, I talked to a parking warden while I was there and was advised that ANPR is arriving very soon the pay meters have already been installed. Looe is a very parking warden active area ,so be warned in the nicest possible way this post code will get you to Looe and the beach PL13 2AF

This is a very lovely beach, the tide goes out quite a way which makes social distancing alot easier, lots of seats around to sit on too for those that don't want to go onto the beach, there is a nice cafe just on the sea front to grab a cold drink when its hot, plus lots of other places to take away drinks. Can get quite busy at times, there isn't much if any parking directly near beach, car parks further down and then need to walk down to beach. There's ramps to get on beach too ideal for pushchairs and walkers etc. No shelter / umbrellas for anyone who likes shadier bits so be sure to take a sun umbrella with you.
Lovely clear sea and clean beach worth a visit.

So glad you enjoyed your time on our beach - our maintenance team work very hard to keep it clean and tidy. The beach concessions are now open and so you can hire umbrellas, windbreaks etc.

We visited/stayed in Looe 8th-15th August (a holiday booked last year) and visited East Looe Beach three times. Yes, it’s was pretty full but everybody adhered pretty well to distancing. We managed to get a spot each time at the end of the beach in the little cove area near the rocks. The kids loved it! We took take out pizza on from a nearby pizza restaurant and sat eating in the sunshine, plenty of litter and recycling bins around to dispose of rubbish afterwards. Some lovely ice cream parlours nearby and places selling cold drinks. All in all it was a lovely place to be so much so that we’ve rebooked for next year!

The carpark has been upgraded to collect your number plate details and once parked your'e now charged 20p (per person) to use the toilets. The toilets by the beach are free (but disgusting) and you will have to run the gauntlet of dodging dog owns who are either bending down to pick up the mess or allowing dogs to run on long leads.
Been to Looe many times over the years but now get the feeling tourists are not welcome.
Won't be back again any time soon!

We arrived in Looe early at 9am, we have a campervan so wanted to make sure we could park. Plenty of parking a massive car park. Looe itself was great and the beach lovely. Not that many people there.

I never once stopped worrying that we’d return to find the car either broken into or gone. It was like walking through the audience of a Jeremy Kyle broadcast, horrible.
The whole place stank of seaweed and sewage. There were seagulls everywhere. which spray everything with their filth. They must encourage them to come into the town otherwise they’d all be out at sea, where they belong.
At the entrance to the main street, there was a council employee stopping traffic telling people where they were and weren’t allowed to go. Not sure if he was an appointed traffic offer they have different laws here apparently.
At breakfast ,it quickly dawned on us that the cafe owners had built a seagull nesting area on their roof, the gulls continually stole food from the plates of the diners. My husband was extremely upset when one of the seagulls stole his last sausage. He’d been intending to save it for later.
The prices in the mini mart were a rip off. I could have filled a basket for less that half of what it cost in Looe in John Lewis’s.
The town was full of was places selling a massive range of fodder for the obese. We’ve never seen so many on mobility scooters. We thought it was some sort of rally at first.
If you need a public toilet, just follow the stench towards the source. Filthy, clearly a breeding ground for Covid and a multitude of other seriously dangerous bacteria. If I were a town councillor here, I’d be ashamed.
We are never going back!

Not been here for over 40 years, place brought back many happy memories of family seaside holidays. For the initiated, Looe is split into West & East, with the main town and beach area being in East Looe, and the town divided by the River Looe. Parking is at a premium in the town ,close to the beach, so bit of a walk from the car parks near the bridge which joins the 2 parts. The beach itself is quite flat, clean and a lovely place to spend a sunny day, but does get busy. Pleasant boat trips from the adjoining quayside go out to Looe Island, some way offshore, and although we didn't do it, I gather there is an excellent coastal walk between Looe and nearby Polperro, taking in Talland Bay. Well worth a visit

We stayed in Cornwall in June last year and spent the day in Looe. We found the beach to be very practical for young families. Not overly big, rock pools bordering the second beach, picturesque, showers, ice cream, lots of bins, sea gently sloping and ideal for swimming and, most importantly for us, no dogs. We found the beach ideal for our children (age 5&6) and decided to book a week there for early 2023. We had a lovely time in early July and found everywhere to be well maintained. Enjoyed finding crabs, anemonies, small fish and star fish in the rock pools. The children enjoyed their week so much, we arranged a further week, in mid-September. We were saddened on this week to find the beach sands had taken on a darker hue and the area near the rocks pools had black water and a horrific stench. The water quality notification stated there were no issues and it was suggested to us that the smell was seaweed. This was rather insulting as there was clearly a sewage issue. Sadly, we did not feel we could use Looe beach on our second stay due to this issue clearly affecting the whole bay area. Unfortunately, we will not return next year.

Recently We were in Looe on a very hot Autumn day, such a lovely place and the sandy beach was teeming with people.
A very safe looking beach with nice calm waters.
It was great to see all the families, lots of kids really enjoying themselves on the sand and in the water. The place was awash with a sea of sun umbrellas and beach chairs.
A bit of a walk from the very big paying carpark, but it is a lovely town to walk through to get to the beach.
Lots of places to eat and drink, good toilet facilities .
Very nice place to visit , it got very crowded in the lovely hot weather,

Nice clean beach. Very family orientated. Can get very busy when tide is in. Dogs not allowed which means no one is bothered by them nor looking out for mess not being cleared up. If you have young children I would recommend this beach if you are in the area.

There were no restrictions that I could see while I was there, unless I completely missed them? I would have thought it would be completely fine to take a dog anytime due to it being the type of beach that it is.
