    A beautiful fishing harbour
While In Cornwall we drove to the little village of Mousehole. What a dreamy old fishing village on a lovely bay, big stone walls with a small entrance protect the harbour, maybe that is where the unusual name comes from . Mousehole is mentioned in the history books way back in 1283. A little narrow street brings you down the hill and there is a paying carpark at the harbour. It is a lovely feeling spending a few hours there browsing the shops and eating places. We came across plenty of information which told some of the history and happenings in the village over the centuries, read how the Spaniards attacked here in 1595 nearly destroying the whole village . We loved our time there a more picturesque fishing village would be hard to find anywhere

    Iconic Christmas lights
Lived in Cornwall for some years now, but never made it to the lights for various reasons! Today we did and giving braved the queues we park back on the road and walked in. Lights are very pretty and impressive with a very good duo singing next to the harbour. Very worthwhile put us in the Christmas mood for sure.

    Park miles away
Mousehole is stunning. Quaint, traditional, beautiful, like stepping back in history, the village is simply beautiful. Lovely little shops and the off pub and restaurant paint a gorgeous picture that needs no framing. Sadly, we had to park miles away. We chanced parking in the village itself, but there was more chance of plaiting the fog sat just off the coast. The car parks are overrun very, very quickly by the sheer volume of visitors. We were of course, visitors ourselves, so to complain would be churlish in the extreme. But there really isn't enough space, particularly in good weather. If you're lucky enough to get to see the village, it is fabulous. Enjoy it, if you get there.

The harbour is very pretty, the quintessential Cornish fishing harbour.
We visited Mousehole Harbour on a Wednesday early evening in May during a weeklong visit to Cornwall. We had driven here having been sightseeing in this part of the county and the village was fairly quiet when we arrived. We parked our car in the (pay & display) car park to the left of the harbour and had a good walk around. The tide was partially in but enough to allow the small boats to be bobbing at their moorings. The harbour is very pretty, the quintessential Cornish fishing harbour. Walking around we were able to take some pictures from different angles and also look along some of the narrow streets. At one end of the harbour is a small sandy beach possibly uncovered due to the low tide and here we found as collection of colourful kayaks / canoes stacked against one of the harbour walls. We enjoyed our visit to Mousehole. I suspect that visiting on the day and time that we did, the harbour area was much quieter than during the day or in high season so in this respect we able to appreciate its gentle ambience more.

Most beautiful, clean dog-free harbour in the county
Absolutely gorgeous place: picture-perfect. Lovely pub for drinks. Always some arts/crafts stuff going on. Kids jumping off the pier. Best of all, they are not bothered by any dogs roaming round on the harbour or soft-sand beach. Don't forget the lights at Christmas!

    Picture Perfect
This is one of the most picturesque harbors that I’ve ever seen. I saw it on a Rick Steve’s show and knew I had to see it in person. It was worth the effort. All of Cornwall is worth the effort! This little village by the sea has some great galleries, artists and unique gifts. I found earrings made from sands nearby. I also bought some notecards that were watercolor prints of the harbor. We took a taxi from Penzance and the local bus back. There is a 3-4 mile coastal trail also. We had walked 6 miles the day before and had a lots of activity planned ahead. Say Mo ah zul not Mouse Hole

    Household harbor
Tried visiting St Ives but what a nightmare. Between the parking and amount of people everywhere we decided on trying somewhere different. Mouse hole came up so we decided to give it a go. What a beautiful little port town. Easy parking and a short walk to the harbor. Food options were varied and the option for a takeout lunch or breakfast along the harbor wall was fun. Just to look out over the harbor was a delight. Definitely a place to visit if you’re in the area.

I had demanded to my partner that we visit Mousehole on our Cornwall trip. My partner refused to let me navigate the exceedingly tight road down to the harbour though, but I was entrusted to observe the scenery on our descent down a devilishly steep slope.

Mousehole is like something you dream of from a story book. Hidden away in the depths of beyond, where time has stood still for several decades.

The bijou harbour is picture postcard perfect and worth a photo or two. I was thrilled to capture an opportune celluloid moment where a plump inquisitive looking gull had come to survey the harbour; clearly a pro, he posed without candour for a few shots.

Other worthy mentions include the charming shops, the view out to sea and the droll gentleman in the post office.

Mousehole may just trap you with its magic...

We visited Mousehole with it being recommended as a result of the beautiful little harbour. All I can say is what a disappointment. No dogs are allowed on the quay or on the harbour beach (a ridiculous amount of signage noting visitors of this). There are a number of signs on the east side of the village stating ‘dogs are banned on this beach’… the small print said 1 July to 31 August, yet numerous people we passed commented as they walked past us saying ‘dogs aren’t allowed’. None of the cafes/ restaurants allow dogs either. Mousehole is very anti dog, I appreciate that not everyone is a dog lover but this was the most unwelcoming place I have ever been. If you have dogs, I wouldn’t waste your time.

Let's talk about the village: pretty harbour, lots of places to eat, quaint little cottages. and thats all folks. I stayed for 2 weeks in this place, outside of season it get boring VERY quickly. Locals have an attitude and I got the feeling they spat on the ground after you walked by, I nearly don't blame them as a lot of the tourists also have an unfriendly 'look down your nose' air about them. I went into the general stores to enquire about the bus into town, the gentleman was rude, blunt, and didn't even meet my eye. I decided to never shop there during my stay, so I didn't.
The little independent ice cream shop was lovely as was the HoleFoods deli/restaurant even though quite pricey.
Dogs are public enemy number one in this place, as the whole harbour has dogs banned all year round. And I didn't have my dog. The harbour is littered with public information signs and warnings, very unattractive. I took the bus to Newlyn and Penzance several times, the bus would leave early on occasion and the timetable, especially on Sunday, didn't match with when the bus turned up or left. The online timetable didn't match with the schedule at all.
Over rated.

Mousehole is a very picturesque and interesting small town. Driving into here is a bit of a mission especially in a larger vehicle, there is smallish and reasonably priced car park down by the harbour though. There are fine views out to sea and into the village from the harbour area. Mousehole has some nice independent shops to browse. The pub has a memorial placque to a previous landlord sadly lost at sea in an accident in the 1980's.

Even in the rain it was a stunning harbour and Mousehole is a lovely little fishing village. Options for food and drink available. I got the Mousehole bus from Penzance bus station and it drops you off right at the harbour which is fab. The village has little alleyways with art galleries to visit along with great views of the coast.

Why do people complain about narrow streets and lack of parking in small Cornish towns and villages? That’s the essence of any such village. There is an extremely good and efficient bus service and, though you wouldn’t know it, we face real climate change.

Mousehole in winter is worth visiting but, like most of Cornwall, definitely not in the summer. The few surviving locals must go into hiding and who can blame them?

What a lovely place Mousehole Harbour is to visit. We caught the bus there, as you would be bonkers if you are thinking of driving there. The roads are so small, yet bus drivers are adept at driving round here. we saw many cars stuck or just waiting ages to travel a few yards. We had a walk round and ate (yes you guessed it) a very nice pasty. So take the bus.

Mousehole is a very pretty harbour village with little winding streets, chocolate box houses and shops geared towards the tourist. The Rockpool serves lovely food and is reasonably priced. Due to the structure of the village parking is an issue, I appreciate this is not ideal for locals who I'm sure it causes frustration for. However, be very wary of the quay side car parks, they advertise a 24 hour ticket for £5, if you are in a holiday home (most have no parking) and leave the space to go out even though you have paid out for the ticket you are not guaranteed a space. This car park is selling spaces already paid for repeatedly. So if you return expecting the space "you paid for" and there are none it is basically tough. I wasn't impressed this time with Mousehole and will not stay there again, the parking was a hassle, taking the shine off our holiday. It isn't a friendly place anymore which is a shame as it is a pretty place to visit.

If you want to visit with your dog take our advice, have a lovely lunch at the very dog friendly Coastguard Hotel and then go somewhere else. Mousehole is quite probably the most dog unfriendly village in Cornwall. Even out of season dogs are not allowed on the quay or the harbor beach at any time of the year. What was once a lovely little village has decided to try to be like St Ives with overpriced galleries and bland shops of overpriced tat. Head elsewhere.

Payed and displayed 7 days in harbour carpark. Llawnroc Car Park Company. Nevertheless got 3 fines, each 60 GBP. No customer service available, neither on phone, nor by e-mail. Many problems to pay the unfair fines. Payment by phone or online did not work. No answers to my e-mails by the company. Could read in the fb profile that the company has really bad reviews. Instead of getting back to me, Llawnroc contacted my rental car company which made even more costs for me without solving the payment problem. Parking for a week in Mousehole finally costed me 215.- GBP plus 30.— GBP other charges, plus 30.— CHF telephone costs. The phone payment worked after many trials finally. This experience really spoiled my week in Mousehole, which is a nice place with lovely food shops and restaurants and right on the coastal hiking path. Never ever Llawnroc Harbour Carpark. Probably never ever Mousehole again.
