This review is for my last visit to England in July 2017. I am a private person, and I don't usually write reviews. Still, I wanted to share my memorable experience with Cornish Heritage Safaris (which was recommended to me by St. Nectan's Glen).
Susan was my Cornish Heritage Safaris local tour guide, and I still remember her attentive hospitality.
Before finalizing reservations with Cornish Heritage Safaris, Susan and I exchanged multiple emails regarding my visit. I told her I loved exploring ancient places, so she created the MYSTICAL tour for me. I stayed at the Atlantic View Hotel, which she recommended.
On every tour day, she picked me up from the Atlantic View Hotel, where I started my day with a hearty breakfast and ended the day with a lovely dinner.
From Tintagel Castle and Merlin's Cave, the Holy Well, St. Nectan's Glen, St. Michael's Mount (walked on water to the castle), Boscawen, Lanyon Quoit, and the Witch Museum, I loved every place she took me in her Land Rover Defender jeep.
It rained when I visited St. Nectan's Glen, but Susan thoughtfully provided a raincoat for me! The waterfalls were magical on this rainy fairytale day. Other mystical things happened during this whole tour!
If I traveled to England again, I would make reservations with Susan again! Her service was EXECUTIVE FIRST CLASS.
I highly recommend Susan at Cornish Heritage Safaris! You can contact me if you have any questions about my visit to the western part of England.

We booked with Susan to visit Tintagel, and then over the course of our correspondence expanded our visit into a full 7 days. Nothing was too much trouble for Susan. She collected us from Swindon, and stopped at Avebury and Bath on the way to Tintagel.
The next day we visited Port Isaac (Doc Martin country) and Tintagel Castle. The day after we went to Lanhydrock via Bodmin Moor, the day after that to The Eden Project. The next day we were all off to Liverpool, via overnight stops near Tintern Abbey, and in Shrewsbury. With stops at Goodrich Castle and the charming towns of Ludlow, and Ironbridge along the way.
Throughout it all Susan was cheerful, knowledgeable and an excellent guide. She kept us informed throughout, answering our questions and researching where she felt necessary.
We were sorry when she left us in Liverpool, we greatly enjoyed our time together. We wish it could have been for longer, or we could return to Cornwall. Thank you!

Had the most wonderful day out with Susan today. She is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the extraordinary history in this area. Accommodated all of our needs throughout the day and was able to show us so many wonderful parts of Cornwall. My personal highlight were the waterfalls at St Nectan’s Glen. My ten year old son said his highlights were ‘Castle-an-Dinas’ and ‘the rock at Roche’. A fantastic day out with a fantastic guide. Thank you Susan- we will be returning (maybe it won’t be so windy next time).

We needed to get from Boscastle to St. Ives and didn't want to 'waste a day' in travel so asked Susan if she would give us the tour we wanted but drop us off in St. Ives rather than back in Boscastle. She could and did so we ended up with the best of both worlds! She is very knowledgeable about the history & geography of her region of Cornwall. What a lovely day we spent in her company. I'd highly recommend her services.

Owner Susan Hockey provided two days of the best safaris through the misty Bodmin Moor and the Penzance and coastal areas. Her knowledge of archaeology, architecture, and history of early ages like the Iron and Bronze ages was a pleasure to listen to, in addition to the mystycism surrounding these sites. In her rugged vehicle, we traversed through offbeat paths learning about the tin/copper mines of yesteryear, visted historical Norman churches, and wandered amongst stone circles and ruins that we never would have found ourselves. The pirates of Penzance and smugglers of Jamaica Inn may have sought their treasures, but we found our treasure in Susan as our guide to Cornwall. She exceeded our expectations.

We felt adventurous and booked a Cornish Heritage Safari that had us exploring St Materiana Church, Tintagel Castle ruins, his last battle at Slaughterbridge, and Dozmary Pool where Excalibur was thrown. We were 2 couples with our 10 yr old and we spent the morning discovering where the Ley Lines were near the ruins. We all learned something new about the Arthurian legend today and our guide was fabulous ensuring we saw everything there was to see and ensuring we had tea and food in us at all times!! Highly recommend if you don't want to drive yourself around and want a deeper understanding of what you're looking at!!

Susan is the best of her business, very responsible, accomplished, knowledgeable, fun and a history lover!
I chose Port Isaac (Doc Martin) and Bodmin Moor and when she learnt I was a King Arthur’s enthusiast she took me to related sites that were nearby our way. I commend her on that and recommend her tours to anyone.
Thank you Susan!

Our group of two Americans and two UK residents spent a week in Cornwall, based near the seaside village of Pastow. Our fifth trip to England; our British friends, who live in London, know the country well. But, we wanted a local expert to no only show us central Cornwall, but also wanted a driver, even though we had a car. In addition, we wanted someone who had a good grasp on the history of Cornwall. For six days we toured English Heritage and National Trust sites, on our own. We spent an entire day with Susan Hockey, owner of Cornish Heritage Safaris. We were not disappointed. Her vast knowledge of the legend of King Arthur reminded us of a historical lecture at the British Museum. Going with a local guide like Susan is the only way to see Cornwall...next year, we are going back and let her guide us in the sw corner-Penzance and St. Ives area

Our family group of 5, aged between 23 and 65, including a dog, went on a fascinating 2 day tour of Bodmin Moor and Tintagel. It was tailored to our changing needs and was of great value, covering much more than we could have done on own. Susan Hockey is very engaging and knowledgeable, capturing our imagination with the architecture, history, landscape of this part of Cornwall. Without Susan our Cornish holiday would not have been so enjoyable and rewarding.

Had 11/2 days with Susan back in mid May.Susan is so knowledgeable about all matters pertaining to Cornwall. I did the far west tour one day and Tintagel Castle Tintagel the next! Susan was able to give a lot of history covering ancient peoples/ sites, tin mines, geology
Culture and more! Susan is delightful. Her veichle a Defender Range Rover, is most comfortable.Susan tailors the tour for the individual. I saw a lot but the days were very relaxing. I recommend Susan to anyone going to Cornwall who would like to better understand this very special part of England! Susan loves Cornwall and it shows.

I am planning a two day trip in May with my 5year old to see boscastle and tinagel. Which tours do you recommend?

Hello and thanks for getting in touch. And thanks for the previous answer. When very young people have come on the tours before, we have used safety reins. This is because there are steep drops at Tintagel castle and lots of steep steps. We could combine a visit there with other places, including the waterfall at St Nectan's and a local beach. We could also go to historic places where it's safe to run around, like some spots on Bodmin Moor where there are stone circles etc.and lots and lots of open space. Lanhydrock House has lovely grounds in addition to the beautiful house open for visitors. I love nearby Restormel Castle, which should fire the imagination of a young person, around knights and daring deeds, just like Tintagel.
If you think that a tour might be a bit too much for your five year old, there are some great taxi services based in Boscastle who can pick you up and drop you back at times suiting you. Do email me for more information.
