Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This was one of the highlights of my year. The time care generosity patience and reassuring support given by Ann Bill and Ellie was superb. And I was thrilled with the end result. Thank you team Clovelly Silk. Thoroughly recommended

Take no notice of that previous review as this was far from the experience I had at this Shop, I was greeted by a kindly Man who was busy but wiped his hands off to come and see if I needed help, I bought a beautiful Scarf for my Mothers Birthday, it was wrapped beautifully , the Man I believe to be called Bill was old English Charm and Manners, a quaint setting tucked in along with the delightful Donkeys and pretty Flowers planted around, a must see visit in your walk through Clovelly, I was escorted to the Door and waved off on my way, it's rare to find proper old fashioned service like I found here, I wonder if there is a online shop/ website I might use please ?

I was shocked to read a negative review for this amazing place as my own experience was wonderful. I booked for a days devore course in March and loved it so much I stayed on for another day. Ann and Bill were totally encouraging and inspiring. It was one of the most enjoyably creative days I have ever spent. They are both enormously experienced people and I felt privileged to have their guidance and company. I have just booked for another day at the beginning of October ( - for which I will be making well over a 600 mile trip).
For me it was, and continues to be a brilliant experience that I would strongly recommend.

My daughter gave me a 'Clovelly Silk' voucher for my birthday and together we spent a wonderful day in Clovelly making devore silk scarves. Ann and Ellie Jarvis, the mother and daughter team who teach the classes - in our case just the two of us - inspired and encouraged us to create amazing patterns, giving us the confidence to apply them to the silk which resulted in beautiful scarves we take pleasure in wearing. The voucher price of £50 covered all materials used during the day, endless cups of tea and coffee with homemade cakes and entry to beautiful Clovelly Village. A thoroughly enjoyable day which I would highly recommend.

I can fully understand the glowing reviews from people who have been on courses here, or from people who are enthusiastic about arts and crafts. Perhaps even simple shoppers who gave a particular passion for silk will ring its praises.
As someone who popped in as part of a general trip to the village however, all I can add is that it was fine. It's a tourist shop with silk scarves and stuff to buy.

Thank you for your feedback, it's a shame you weren't feeling a little more inspired following your visit to our workshop, and that our selection of textiles, scarves and accessories weren't to your taste - but we continue to hand print our designs at the workshop, using time honoured skills and hope you'll visit again on your next trip to Clovelly.

Highlight of the trip to Clovelly for me, made all the more special as I had no idea it was there. Absolute gem if you're into textile decoration or the least bit interested in the process of making silk scarves. Excellent range for sale including adorable hand knitted jumpers. What a pity they were only for little people. Got chatting with one of the owners who recommended visiting nearby Hartland Quay and then onto Hartland Abbey for Bluebell Sunday. Ending up being just the most perfect day.

How kind of you to take the time to write this lovely review.
We're so pleased you enjoyed the shop and our chat.
Weren't the bluebells and other Spring flowers at Hartland Abbey perfect.
We hope you get the chance to enjoy another visit sometime in the near future. :)
Thank you very much indeed.

We went in to the silk shop at the end of our walk up and down the village. It really is worth going to and the owner was so lovely and we really enjoyed chatting to him. Well worth popping in to this lovely little shop.

Couldn't disagree more with the above reviewer..
My family and I visited a few weeks back and couldn't have received a warmer reception.
So many lovely bits, even silk worms which the kids loved!
Will return next year as my sister loves her scarfe and now my mum wants one!

Thank you for your lovely review! We are so pleased that you enjoyed your visit to Clovelly Silk.
Your children may be interested to know that the Silk Worms have grown very big now and it won't be long before they spin their cocoons.
We are glad that your sister loves her scarf, be sure to make yourself known to us when you do return to Clovelly next year! :)

This workshop/ showroom at the top end of Clovelly has a huge selection of silks, and even a little showcase of silkworms (they even had some live ones while I was there, happily eating mulberry leaves). The owners are experts (one of them was a designer for Liberty) and more than happy to chat or to explain the processes (like silk screening). Well worth a visit if you're in or near Clovelly. (Note that you do have to pay to get into Clovelly itself- though this "attraction" is free)..

The Silk Worms are now very big and just a few days away from spinning their cocoons.
So sweet of you to call us "experts" when in reality, we just love what we do! :)

Nice little shop with amazing silk ties and nice scarves. Toile with Clovelly scenes designed for early 20th-century owner of village. Friendly conversation. Near donkey stables and pottery and soap shops.

Thank you so much for your lovely review.
The beautiful scenes in our Clovelly Toile de Jouy were drawn by celebrated artist Rex Whistler in 1932 and the village has changed very little since he drew them.
We do hope you'll visit us again in the future.
