Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This was one of the highlights of my year. The time care generosity patience and reassuring support given by Ann Bill and Ellie was superb. And I was thrilled with the end result. Thank you team Clovelly Silk. Thoroughly recommended

Nice little shop with amazing silk ties and nice scarves. Toile with Clovelly scenes designed for early 20th-century owner of village. Friendly conversation. Near donkey stables and pottery and soap shops.

Thank you so much for your lovely review.
The beautiful scenes in our Clovelly Toile de Jouy were drawn by celebrated artist Rex Whistler in 1932 and the village has changed very little since he drew them.
We do hope you'll visit us again in the future.

My Son bought me a Devore course for my 60th Birthday and I was really excited to attend and learn about this facinating craft. I had not expected to enjoy it so much! The devon cream on top of the whole day was to be working with Ann and Bill Jarvis. What lovely people. We spent the day together, chatting, cutting patterns and laying out my scarf then screen printing and finishing. What a miracle, out came a beautiful scarf. If you want a very out of the ordinary experience in a unique and wonderful village then dont hesitate and book today.

An original A's unique audio of a gifted silk painter and artist. Interesting displays of silks as scarfs and fabric, cut work and various dying techniques are used.

I can fully understand the glowing reviews from people who have been on courses here, or from people who are enthusiastic about arts and crafts. Perhaps even simple shoppers who gave a particular passion for silk will ring its praises.
As someone who popped in as part of a general trip to the village however, all I can add is that it was fine. It's a tourist shop with silk scarves and stuff to buy.

Thank you for your feedback, it's a shame you weren't feeling a little more inspired following your visit to our workshop, and that our selection of textiles, scarves and accessories weren't to your taste - but we continue to hand print our designs at the workshop, using time honoured skills and hope you'll visit again on your next trip to Clovelly.

I was lucky enough to be given some money for my birthday and thought I would treat myself to something different. So I contacted Ann by email and asked if I could come on a course to learn about it. We arranged it all and I duly turned up, thinking there would be others there but I was the only person and had her undivided attention.
The course was truly fascinating and inspiring. I was given a bit of background about the process and then left to make up my own design. I was terrified it was going to turn out weird but Ann and Bill both were very positive and supportive and kept telling me it would all look wonderful.
They were there all the time once the process was begun and I felt very empowered. Once my scarf was completed I just wanted to carry on and make more. Sadly I didn't have time for that.
A lot of people came in to the shop whilst I was learning and they were fascinated to see the process in action.
Do check out the shop's website for more information about the courses run. Trust me, this is a course for beginners - I hadn't got a clue before I started but I am very very enthused to learn more now and am looking at a possible course at my local adult education college to help me build up my new-found skills. Try it you won't be disappointed!

Highlight of the trip to Clovelly for me, made all the more special as I had no idea it was there. Absolute gem if you're into textile decoration or the least bit interested in the process of making silk scarves. Excellent range for sale including adorable hand knitted jumpers. What a pity they were only for little people. Got chatting with one of the owners who recommended visiting nearby Hartland Quay and then onto Hartland Abbey for Bluebell Sunday. Ending up being just the most perfect day.

I visited Clovelly 2 days ago and whilst there came across the silk shop. The lady running it is very knowledgeable and took the time to tell me about the different silks as I was buying a Christmas present for my MIL. Ended up purchasing just 1 beautiful hand painted silk scarf, but now kicking myself I didn't buy more! Looking forward to my next visit in October :-)
