Powderham Castle is the family home of the 18th Earl & Countess of Devon. It was originally built by Sir Philip Courtenay in 1391 and despite undergoing many transformations since surviving the ravages of the civil war in the 17th century, it has remained in the same family. Entertaining guided tours bring the fascinating history to life, you will find them engaging whatever your age. Discover secret doors, stunning architecture and even a haunted landing. We would advise you to allow at least 3 hours for your visit so you can take time to explore the many acres of gardens and grounds. The Walled Garden is home to our friendly Powderham pets, including Tessa the tortoise and Harry the donkey, and is a safe haven for our little visitors. Relax in the peaceful surroundings, from the beautiful Rose Garden, overlooking the deer park and Exe estuary to the Woodland Garden, with its stunning collection of trees. For the keener walker the breathtaking views from the foot of the Belvedere tower are very rewarding - you can see for miles and feel on top of the world! Before you leave visit the Powderham Country Store. Here you will find Toby Buckland's wonderful plant shop, the Powderham General Trading Co with its range of gifts, clothes and home furnishings and a fantastic food hall, bakery and butcher.

The Castle is impressive and in good order. The grounds are magnificent English countryside, and full of Deer, it is a great place for the Familly piknik, and romantic for couples, you could happily spend an entire sunny day here, There are snacks available, hope this has been of help for you...

Nice location, very scenic with lots of nice walks, although I did find the entry fee a little bit expensive in comparison to other parks. There is a nice cafe and restaurant and farm shop on site, not too great for kids with limited activities

Thank you for your feedback and I'm sorry if you felt the children's activities were limited. We do put on extra child-friendly themed events in the holidays which your children may enjoy. Outside of those times our main attraction is the Castle - of which we offer guided tours (included in the price). Our guides are very experienced at engaging... More

Did the guided tour thing, and was surprised how interesting the Castle was. Set in quite stunning grounds, well worth a visit. They have a farm shop too, if interested.

Salmon fishcakes - dry, almost no fish, lots of mashed potato, - goats cheese in filo: three tiny, tiny filo baskets with a little goats cheese, accompaniments sparse and cheap ingredients. With 2 drinks £25 - perhaps worth 50% of that cost. Will not dine there again.

Powderham Castle is a wonderful place to visit. We had a guided tour of the castle and watched a hilarious performance in the garden. It's certainly worth a visit! Highly recommended!

There is so much to do here. There is the castle, walks along the parkland where you can see the deer, or you can browse the shop or enjoy a snack or a meal in the restaurant or the deli shop. I visited with a friend. We enjoyed a walk with the dog and spent time watching the deer. Then... More

Having visited the castle on various occasions, when my 3 children were a lot younger we had membership for the year, I still find lots of impressive bits that I've missed before. I used to take the children to the castles themed days in the school holidays these were just great, for adults too. We would nearly always finish off... More

Lovely peaceful place, the grounds usually have deers you can catch glimpses off from the gardens. Host large concerts and wedding functions. Very close to the sea,so kill two birds with one stone and visit dawlish warren and dawlish.

We had a lovely afternoon making a Christmas Wreath. The tuition was excellent and we had an amazing amount of foliage from the grounds to use. Coffee and mince pies were served and the staff were so welcoming. The grounds were lovely with deer in the park by the lake. There is a shop and cafe too.

Went a few years ago, and been to lots of castles since and this is still the best for us. 1. It was reasonably priced for a family. 2. We had a knowledgeable tour guide (unlike some of the very expensive busy castles where you get an audio guide instead). 3. There is a haunted area! Mwa ha ha... 4.... More
