Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

only 5 minutes from my house but the first time visit. Having been to other courses this came across as quite smal and compact Grandstand area etc. A few down points are there is no outside seating so you have to stand all the time and you only see less than half the track. Amazed how quick it is to drive out with no queues.
May come back as so close.

Well what can I say. I absolutely loved my time at Exeter Racecourse.
Absolutely wonderful food, great white wine, great white people. All round a pleasant experience!
If you love horses and love seeing them get whipped within an inch of their life even more then this is the place to be!

Close to where we were staying in Dawlish, nice location, great experience. A.P. McCoy always has a ride there and we even saw David James. Definitely recommend for a good day out.

Bought premier tickets for hubbys birthday overall poor experience.
Firstly the ques to get in missed first race had to park on muddy field absolute nightmare to get out.
Lack of seating had to stand to eat.
The food at APs was inedible after queuing for half hour for it ...why only 1 person serving and woman with red hair standing there doing nothing but critize the server ...really badly organised and again missed another race while queuing for it...also missed last race to try and beat the crowds when leaving didn't work got stuck in mud.
Could of been a better birthday had I chosen somewhere else to go !

Have been to the restaurant at Exeter Racecourse previously and whilst the food was never amazing, this time it was completely and utterly inedible We took a friend to celebrate her 70th birthday and were disappointed and embarrassed at the poor food that was served. The starters were OK, but the carvery was appalling. The lamb was greasy, gristly and not fit for consumption. The other meat on offer was pork and this was almost white in colour and very solid. These meats were accompanies by a selection of completely tasteless vegetables - all soft and unappetising. The puddings were passable. We left the main course and explained our issue to the waiting staff who apologised and were embarrassed. The manager offered us a bottle of wine, that we didn't want.
It is worth noting that the table behind us, also left their meal. On leaving the racecourse I sent a polite email expressing my disappointment, but to date, I have heard absolutely nothing.
The venue is great and the staff are excellent but the birthday treat was ruined by the very poor catering.

Do not go unless you want to spend two hours trying to leave the carpark.
We were in the car before the last race as it still took us all that time to exit the carpark.
Ruined what was a great day, would recommend travelling to courses further away. You'll still get home quicker!

Unusual and enjoyable, lots of space to walk around, nice facilities, fast food, drink on offer and good to go and watch - maybe have a flutter or two on the G.G's. Set on the top of Haldon Hills, nice scenery, good walks, picnic areas. Can be covered in cloud but on a sunny day is really good fun especially on race days.

A great racecourse, well laid out, superb track, stunning views.
I just hope the Jockey Club don't decide to try and flog it off in and give the resultant funds to flat racing, like they're planning to do with Kempton...

We visited this race course on Gentleman’s Day and thoroughly enjoyed the racing and the hospitality. It is a lovely course with excellent facilities. We ate in the Dessert Orchid Restaurant and the food, drinks and service were superb. All the team were friendly and helpful and the food was excellent. There was a tote facility in the Restaurant and all the tote team very attentive if you wanted to place a bet.

Whenever ive been, the place has always been full, and the staff are very helpful. Plus it is right by Haldon Forest, so two activities in one!

Hi going to the races for the first time and have a table booked with 3 course lunch , are jeans permitted or is it more of a dress and suit place ?
Written 3 February 2018
As with most National Hunt tracks, Exeter racecourse has a ‘dress for the weather’ recommendation/policy which does not preclude smart jeans.
That said you will likely find that in the restaurant most folk will out of choice be dressed in a fairly ‘smart’ fashion, (throughout the rest of the racecourse it’ll be far more relaxed). Thus while you may be in the minority wearing jeans in the restaurant you shouldn’t feel out of place...
