A must-visit for everyone in Plymouth, beautiful sites and lots of small local shops selling food, jewellery, artistry and much more. There are several boats that can take you to the nearby islands too. Very refreshing to be by the seaside and escape away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

This is a delightful part of Plymouth with its mix of narrow cobbled streets, old buildings and the bustling Sutton Harbour. This was relatively undamaged by bombing in WW2 and is an area to explore on foot with so many different things to see.

I loved how there was a mix of old and new. It was very lively, lots of restaurants to visit, stunning views, Mayflower trails, a lovely atmosphere.

Enjoyed drinks outside barracuda on the side of Barbican. Great to see business and people all working together to make a great atmosphere. Well done Plymouth. Will be coming back again 👍

Modern harbourside with plenty of eating/drinking establishments. Enjoyable for both daytime family ventures and/or late night evenings. Beautiful harbour views.

We haven't been to Plymouth for about 15 years, this area has been transformed from somewhere quite rundown into a lovely place to sit & eat with great cafes, bars & restaurants. We especially enjoyed it because the sun had his hat on!
There are some great little shops here too with some very talented people, support them if you can, I did!

We last visited Plymouth a number of years ago when this area was quite rundown. It has now been completely transformed and is full of cafés, interesting shops, bars and restaurants. These are all set in the wonderful historic buildings which survived the bombing raids of WW2.

We’ve seen this speciality of top quality all you can eat roast beef in a huge variety of cours and flavours, in other cities but we don’t think it’s a chain. Opened mid February. We came to Lost in Rio in Bretonside this weekend and it was great. Booked on line for early evening and it was bustling and packed with all ages and types. Amply equipped with a large enthusiastic staff and operating a first rate fixed price all you can eat system. You load your plates with salas, rice and all the sides and then a stream of servers come. Your table with large spits from which they cut as much or many slices as you want. And throughout they offer well constructed and mixed predominantly Brazilian style cocktails. Partway through our stay a live band arrived. We had a very tasty hearty and lubricated couple of hours. A welcome innovation and boon to the Barbican area.

Who is responsible for the lack of street cleaning, the traffic gridlocks and the lack of control over nonsensical planning? It's a pity there seems to be no joined up organisation keeping control over development, conservation, cleaning and marketing. The city council must have some responsibility?

Planning is really bad and the small number of good shops and value quality restaurants is disappointing but all in all people do have a good time down here and serendipity can produce some amazingly upbeat and fun days and nights out. There is something called the 'Waterfront' which takes a levy off the business rates but seems to be bumbling ineffectual and often shambolic. I think the Barbican's character and liveliness is thriving and evolving despite that organisation.
