Undisturbed Burrator is surrounded by mixed woodland which sharply contrasts with the open moor and rugged Dartmoor tors. The reservoir is popular with walkers, cyclists and horse riders due to its wealth of footpaths and bridleways. Many of the trails lead on to Dartmoor so it makes an ideal starting point for longer trips. The circular walk which follows the lanes around the water is ideal for families as it is easy going and flat. It will take between 1.5 - 2 hours to complete and is approximately 3.5 miles. Parking is possible at various locations including the Quarry car park, Norsworthy Bridge and the Dam.Low cost bank fishing for both rainbow and brown trout is available at this scenic water; permits are sold at the garage in Yelverton.Being within Dartmoor National Park we kindly request that you drive and park with consideration to other users and animals. The National Cycle Route 27 runs near to Burrator further information is available on the sustrans websiteIce cream vans visit the dam, Norsworthy Bridge and Sharpitor car park.

Beautiful location. Lots of walks to get you away from the masses, relatively flat walks if you prefer that but also access to some Tors if you want more if a challenge. Don't just restrict yourself to the reservoir road, there is much more around. Branch out. But if you are not experienced at walking on the Moors, beware quick... More

A great opportunity to either walk around the reservoir, stopping at the recovery centre and then in the summer take an ice cream. Can be busy parking in the summer but it's available all year round. A New Year walk in the sun is just refreshing. If you park in the small Quarry car park on the left before you... More

there are a couple of car parks one before you reach it coming from Yelverton and one at the far end of the reservoir. Also roadside parking. Nearly always an ice cream van. Take your own refreshments. You can have a good fairly level walk on the road around Burrator or you can walk up the hill to the old... More

Extraordinarily beautiful place. Extremely photogenic (my 10yr old won a national photographic competition frm this place). You could easily spend all day here walking gently around. Or just take a shorter walk. There is an ice cream van there for refreshments. Lots of wildlife. Pretty quiet. Lots and lots of picnic spots.

A really beautiful location. Great for a long walk or if you want you could cycle around. We went scooting here with a 3 and 2 year old and got only a small way round then went back for ice cream! Really lovely day out.

The walk around the reservoir is about 4.25 miles long and is a mix of gravel paths, waters-edge track, woodland walks and made-up paths. Special dog friendly areas and angling zones. Interesting water fowl and beautiful views.
