Gone again.
Feb 2017 • Friends
This art shop, gallery has been part of Marie Hewitt Interiors. Both occupied space in Royal William Yard but after the related business Residence One failed a year or more ago Art Source etc was moved to the Cargo building at 41 Millbay Road. Today we saw it empty. On the windows were a notice explaining that it had been a 6 month pop up gallery showroom and that henceforth the business would operate as a mobile activity visiting interior design jobs. There is no information as to whether the art gallery will have a fixed base or another pop up venue, or whether it will continue or have a public contact point at all.

Art Source has moved from RWY to Millbay Road
Aug 2016 • Friends
Upon the failure of the basement and garden cafe ar Residence One in Royal William Yard all the surviving businesses have scattered. The interior design company is sharing a coffee shop space with Rockets across the Green in RWY but Art Source has moved further to the other side of Millbay docks to a ground floor shop in the point of the fork in the road between the ferryport entrance and Millbay Road just opposite the huge bright red School of Creative Arts. The shop sells mostly the same as they had in RWY, hardly anything you might think of as fine art or stimulating. Lots of pictures that look as if the paint has been squirted from a burger sauce bottle and other wobbly urban scenes with sort of matchstick characters.

Ed Waite exhibition
Mar 2016 • Couples
I've been here several times and bought pieces painted by Ed Waite.

His work is fantastic and they have an exhibition of his work starting this Saturday, before moving on to Exeter

I would recommend a visit if you are in the area

Martin Bush work adds nothing.
Oct 2015 • Friends
As will be seen quite clearly from the mass of photos just added by the Art Source management, the Martin Bush work is almost all the same and pretty well any could be put together like a jigsaw and it would be difficult to one from another. Pop out production line stuff. Play with a colour wheel and you can see how the colours are slung together. Any one might be worth a five second glance if it was on the wall beside an escalator but difficult to justify in a home, office or public area.

Not at all what we had expected. Not horrible but variously bland, schmaltzy, kitsch, childish or cloyingly twee.

Contemporary artists.

Several rooms packed with a wide range of styles and techniques. If you have time to spare in RWY then it is worth walking over to this corner of the green to look at this gallery which is part of several linked businesses within the big old house which include a basement restaurant a fabric and wallpaper shop and a man who does bathrooms. The pictures are all a bit expensive but if you like something original and have a space to fill then you may well see something here. Some of it is pretty and arty, other canvases are abstract and were difficult for us to make much of.

Surrounded by surfeit of naff Xmas trees.
Nov 2014 • Friends
Not sure how Urban Slash let this happen. Having gone to so much trouble to preserve a Residence One and it's surrounding buildings the art shop and cafe have been allowed to erect dozens of tacky Xmas trees all round the outside as if it were a branch of Debenhams or on a housing estate.

Just as the photos show.

A modern gallery in an old building above a tea shop and below a fabric and a bathroom design shop. Cool dude on hand to help, guide and explain about four or five very different artists. Not cheap.

Pleasant to wander round.

Worth a few minutes of your time to look around these three or four rooms. Apart from the photograph style animal photos and the children's balloon paintings, both of which might sell as prints, I didn't feel that the other pictures were interesting or impressive. Coming into the house was worth it to try and imagine how some senior naval officers and their families might have live a couple of centuries ago.

Aesthetically flat wall fillers sold by interior design company.

Difficult to know what to say. All very prettily arrayed. Smooth operating hospitable inoffensive staff. Several styles of work that I had not seen before. But nothing that catches my fancy or that I could live with. I would be interested to know whether anyone could explain anything about the content, concepts, imagery, techniques or impact of any of it, that would indicate quality, substance or appeal. As some one else has said below, almost photographic realistic pictures of animals, pretty sunsets, busy rushed urban scenes and messy indifferent abstracts. Help me, what if anything, am I missing?
