- Neil BBrixham, United Kingdom141 contributionsExcellent service and food!We went to Circa for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. It was the first evening if the season and the staff were really friendly, the food excellent and the service good. Lovely setting and atmosphere. We will be back!Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 March 2023
- EFTurner30 contributionsRestaurant: Circa is incredibleWe had lunch at Circa at Sandridge and oh my goodness it was AMAZING. The restaurant has a great vibe, with very welcoming and accommodating staff, the menu was varied and everything sounded delicious so loved that we could have several small plates to sample lots that they have on offer, everything was immaculately served and tasted absolutely divine - special mention to nettle tagliatelle which knocked our socks off. Thank you to Circa for such a lovely meal, we will be back and telling everyone we know about it!Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 March 2023
- airfish1Bristol, United Kingdom480 contributionsLunch and wine tastingBooked the wine tasting tour and also lunch. Very enthusiastic and welcoming team at Circa, the restaurant attached to the vineyard. I have to say the food was up there with the best I have had. We ordered the Charcuterie, ragu, beetroot and broccoli. All very flavoursome. Wines from local grapes very well suited to the food. Service was fantastic throughout. Wine tasting experience interesting and well delivered. Enthusiastic talk about the wine and how it’s made delivered by a very knowledgeable gentleman. Would recommend and will return.Visited March 2023Written 28 March 2023
- Fran RTavistock, United Kingdom3 contributionsGreat experience wonderful welcomeWe had a fabulous wine tour and tasting session led by Laura who was hugely knowledgeable, welcoming and enthusiastic. The wines we tasted were delicious, as was the cheese and made all the more special by the amazing location. Thoroughly recommend!Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 April 2023
- Riri20 contributionsDisappointing restaurantFirst visit with friends for lunch. The beef starter and focaccia were delicious. Mains were ok but not particularly tasty. We had the brill and sea bass. Cocktails were good but very small. Staff were friendly and helpful. Overall, disappointing as expensive and food although sounds exciting was dull in taste. Shame as setting is lovely and waiting staff were welcoming.Visited July 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 17 July 2023
- Ali921Edinburgh, United Kingdom1,411 contributionsWine tasting experienceYou get an hours visit and three wines followed by a cheese course. The distillery is small so easy to understand the whole process without too much effort. Portions were generous and you will most likely enjoy at least one of them. It was a good variety on our visit: a sparkling brut, a wine blanc and a deep red. Sell other local produce as well. All of us went away with something, so must have been good.Visited July 2023Written 19 July 2023
- HuntersWoodBath, United Kingdom76 contributionsMixed feelings. We have a 2nd home locally and were really excited to visit SB and support a local winemaker and restaurant. In short, the food and venue are top notch but the overall experience was badly let down by really poor service. Our young waiter didn’t write anything down (despite my prompting) and proceeded to get both our order wrong and (later) the bill. Given the fact that this is a small plates restaurant (12 different plates between 4 of us) getting the order wrong was really frustrating and disruptive. It also meant that lunch for 4 took 2.5 hours because the service is so slow. Would maybe return but certainly not recommend. Shame.Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten 9 August 2023
- Gillian SUnited Kingdom2 contributionsGreat place and staff shame abput the menuI went last year shortly after opening and it is still a lovely venue, surprised picnic area was under-developed. Had lunch at Circa restaurant and unlike last year with excellent steak and chips, the menu was weird with small plates but not like tapas dishes which are tasty and moreish. This menu was confusing and the only thing in common with tapas were the small plates. Lots of positives but used to really love the old Sharpham cafe where the food was different in a good way and you came away not feeling ripped off. The staff were great but I just didn't like the food - I wish I'd just ordered cheese with the excellent wine but sadly won't be going back whilst the menu stays in this format.Visited August 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 26 August 2023

Laura our guide through our wine tasting and tour was so knowledgeable and lovely as she took us round the whole process. Answered every question and gave out so much information. Very nice wines as always. The small plates are delicious and the wines are mostly lovely! The service is quick and friendly and payment is mostly good. We have been buying wine from Sharpham for over 20 years!

We visited lasts Sunday for a wine tour and had a drink afterwards. Very good quality wines and very good quality tour. I believe there were two women who were working, whom were both very attentive and informative. Our wine tour was incredibly exciting, especially considering we went just after harvest so the lady (can’t remember her name but believe she had long dark hair) who was doing our tour gave us some juice to taste out of the tank!
Highly recommend to anyone who has an interest in wine and would like to visit a nice English winery.

We went for lunch over the summer and had a great experience.
Returned on a Saturday night with some friends. Food was OK - not as good as the previous lunchtime. But the service was poor at best. Took neatly 45 minutes to get a drink, and that was only when we walked up to the counter (as no-one came near the table) and asked where our drinks were Only seemed interested in taking food orders and bring out food.
We received a request from Sandridge Barton for a review which we did privately - it was more detailed than this one and explained various other issues. I chose to make it private to them only, but not even received the courtesy of an acknowledgement of our negative review and detailed explanation of the issues experienced.
Speaks volumes, we will not be returning.

Went out of season so it was very quiet, the bloke in the shop was friendly and helpful without being intrusive. Bought a selection of wine of which the pinot noir was the pick of the bunch.

We booked the wine tour and lunch at Circa, recommended by family. Wine tasting was really informative, interesting and good opportunity to try a few different wines. Loved that the wine grown and produced on site. Nice touch with the cheese and biscuits at the end of the tasting, again local and delicious. The restaurant service was pitcher just right attentive without being overbearing and staff really understood the ingredients and processes to make such delicious food. We’ve been lucky to eat at a variety of Michelin starred restaurants around the world and Circa was in our opinion at that level, super intense flavours created through innovative processes. The cabbage with pineapple was truly unique, sharing plates make it fun and mean you can try everything . Insane bread! And at the end we felt the value for the meal was exceptional for the level of food and service, we look forward to a return visit to see what the chefs come up with next .

Eaten here twice before and as before a very nice experience. Food was exceptional having tried all 8 dishes all brilliant, modern taste explosions. We had 10 dishes and the 4 goats cheese mousses which was creamy unctuousness supreme. The mint infused local goats cheese with the sourdough crackers, sublime. All dishes after this just grew and grew. Wonderful. Lovely, informed attentive staff. The wine from the vineyard was as good as you get from an English vineyard. Thank you for a lovely afternoon. It’s difficult to get such value and enjoyment in the city.

I genuinely hate writing poor reviews, it's definitely not in my 'great things to do' remit. First of all on a positive note I think the staff at this establishment are really great. We had amazing service, friendly, knowledgeable and kind. Two people were leaving as we arrived and quizzed us as to whether we had been here before and they were raving about the food...... So we feel a bit sad to say that our food was not the best. It looked great but we both came away saying, not for us. Too expensive with portion issues but fundamentally it was just too rich with no sense of 'exquisite' more 'sickly'. I would agree with one of the other reviewers re wine. I tried a couple of reds - one was just undrinkable - far too young. The other red was quite ok but described as 'Award Winning'. To be honest this Pinot Noir really lacked something for me. We really wanted to love it all because you can see that they've put so much thought into the location, the wine, the food but I think they need to look again, revisit it all. The Bull in Totnes do small plates very successfully but it took a while to develop. Gather in Totnes is exceptional and I think SB definitely have all the ingredients to be amazing. I would say yes, develop the wine list so there is choice. Get rid of the small plates it's not working. The old location was sensational, food, ambience, service. I'd like to see a really beautiful menu that is less intense but really harmonious with location. A sort of Riverford Field Kitchen meets Gather. I haven't given up on this restaurant, I hope they take the reviews seriously.

Oh dear ….what has happened to this place? Last year it was fun, friendly and vibrant. This year it was like a morgue. The staff seemed clueless - we only went in for a coffee and a cake, waited for nearly half an hour while they seemed unable to locate the coffee machine, and then the flat whites were basically weak, scalded milky coffee. Awful. We were going to book lunch for the next day but felt so unwelcome and in the way (there were precisely 2 other customers in the bar) that we decided against any speedy return. The cakes were ok but only a choice of two. Last year it was worth a special trip to go for coffee and cake and a fun time. Not any more

If going by train from Totnes to Sharpham Wine, how near are you to a station?

We are an hours walk along the river by following the cycle track by the Steam Packet Inn. Alternatively you can get a cab which takes around 10 - 15 mins.
Hope that helps
