About
Guided river adventures on the River Dart Estuary, one of England's most beautiful rivers. Hire your own 8 or 12-seat 'Longbow' canoe, or join a 'by-the-seat' specials trip. Adventures normally begin at the Maltsters Arms, Tuckenhay, and Stoke Gabriel, between the historic towns of Dartmouth and Totnes - with pubs, secret places, campfires, shipwrecks, wildlife and stories along the way. Ideal for groups of all ages and abilities - private parties; club trips; team-building; hen, stag and birthdays; youth development and study trips; pub-to-pub; wine tasting, and evening paddles. Trips are scheduled round the tide so times change daily and booking is essential. Beautiful River. Big Canoes. Great Fun.

I organised a small group canoe trip with Canoe Adventures for my 30th birthday. Booking via email was super easy, and everything on the day was brilliant. We loved the itinerary that had been suggested, paddling in between Tuckenhay and Stoke Gabriel and stopping along the way to make a campfire. Our skipper Hugh and his son Finch were the best guides, dropping in cool facts about the river and the wildlife along the way and keeping us paddling in the right direction! It was a perfect afternoon on the river, the whole group is still talking about how much fun it was. Will 100% be booking another adventure again soon!

We were welcomed by Hugh (and Finch!) for a wonderful adventure from Tuckenhay up to Stoke Gabriel for a drinks stop. Then half way back again we pulled in and were taught how to make a campfire which we enjoyed into the evening. An exciting paddle back in the dark was in incredible experience seeing how still the waters were. Hugh made us feel safe at all times, provided us with interesting facts and brought a fun yet calm and gentle atmosphere. Thank you!!

Took an overnight stag trip with canoe adventures in September 2023. John looked after us impeccably and gauged the group really well to make a truly awesome trip. It was really hands-on, and if I had one criticism, it would be that there maybe wasn’t enough actual canoeing, but once you take into account setting up the hammocks, collecting firewood, the Bushcraft, the archery, the swimming, the Tuckenhay pub visit, and everything else there certainly wasn’t any wasted time. It also wasn’t too hard-core survivalist, rather a well considered wild camping trip, well connected to the Earth. The experience of sleeping in a tarp covered hammock through a thunderstorm it certainly one that I’ll cherish. Would highly recommend to anyone with even a passing interest in the great outdoors.

Dear Hal and Gregg,

Thank you so much for making our day out on the River Dart such a memorable experience.

This team of NHS coaches have tirelessly worked through the Covid pandemic supporting staff as well as doing their own roles within the Trust, and I just wanted to give them something special as a 'thank you' and to lift morale.

You did make the day very special, and one that I'm sure they will talk about for a long time to come. You made the day fun and full of laughter, the best tonic ever, so thank you.Go with the flow and enjoy the experience it will be one you will remember for a long time.

John and Hal led “us”a group of 16 for an adventurous stag do. Highly recommend they ensured fun was not optional. We canoed from our agreed rendezvous to camp downstream.

We setup camp with hammocks and bashers in the forest as the weather permitted with some survival skills thrown in, some bushcraft collecting firewood for the night ahead.

Lunch was provided no expense spared high quality locally sourced produce. Archery competition. Followed by a paddle in the canoes to the pub this got very competitive as it turned into a race. We headed back to camp and had a river swim before John’s history lesson on all things fire and firelighting.

The fire was a success and dinner was cooked by John and Hal (no expense spared again) we also brought some additional meat.

A night round the fire with everyone and drinks flowing. Everyone then headed back to up the hill to bed in the hammocks we setup earlier.

In the morning we took down hammocks etc. John and Hal had prepared a big breakfast (no expense spared) to fuel us for our return and the end of our trip.

We played a few games before our last canoe race back to civilisation. The blindfolded water pistol Duelling and then some sensory deprivation “find the john” gave us all something to think about.

John and Hal were great and would thoroughly recommend that you are in safe and wise hands with these two locals.
