About Canoe Adventures
Guided river adventures on the River Dart Estuary, one of England's most beautiful rivers. Hire your own 8 or 12-seat 'Longbow' canoe, or join a 'by-the-seat' specials trip. Adventures normally begin at the Maltsters Arms, Tuckenhay, and Stoke Gabriel, between the historic towns of Dartmouth and Totnes - with pubs, secret places, campfires, shipwrecks, wildlife and stories along the way. Ideal for groups of all ages and abilities - private parties; club trips; team-building; hen, stag and birthdays; youth development and study trips; pub-to-pub; wine tasting, and evening paddles. Trips are scheduled round the tide so times change daily and booking is essential. Beautiful River. Big Canoes. Great Fun.

We were a mottley crew of 7, aged 21-64, fitness levels very variable/questionable. And we ALL had the best afternoon messing around in a boat on the river. We felt safe and stable in the canoe, Hugh and Ian were incredibly kind and patient and very interesting to listen and talk to. We learnt lots about river wildlife and plants, about the ocean and atmospherics prompting one crew member to comment "that's some pretty trippy stuff". We rigged a make shift sail which was fun and even managed some synchronized paddling. But it didn't matter that we were rubbish, it was a joy to see the countryside from the river rather than a car. Our stop at Stoke Gabriel was a real treat, the cafe there serves a great crab sandwich and spot on coffee. But the brew over the open fire was pretty cool too. Toasted marshmallows and complete tranquility (apart from the lambs). Bliss. A great afternoon and definately fun for all ages and abilities. A wonderful way to spend quality time with people you love. Kids of all ages will have a ball

Such an awesome day out! Hugh was really patient with us even though we were a bit late and the tide was on its way out fast , he guided us on how to row the boat perfectly, on how to build a fire from scratch and we had an amazing cook up and fire on the beach with the children foraging oysters and clams and having a wild birthday cook up! So much fun, so tranquil, one we will not forget ! Thank you Hugh

We booked a Canoe Adventure for one day of our extended family holiday. Age range was 3-72 and everyone had a wonderful day. Hal was kind and unflappable, even when the 3 year old’s paddle had floated away. He had a store of interesting information and we were all involved with every part of the adventure. We were lucky enough to have great weather and that helped but we all loved the paddling, the fire making process - the 3 year old actually lit the fire with her flint spark - and the beauty of our surroundings. It was brilliant!

Amazing experience! We booked this as a hen party. Hal was so helpful from the beginning and ensured we had all the details and options to hand. Very good value for money. Although we showed up a little bit delicate from the night before, we had so much fun and the views were absolutely stunning. We stopped at the pub for some lunch and drinks and on the way back had some stopped to learn to make a fire. Hal is a brilliant instructor, fun, informative all around lovely person! We could not have asked for a better activity for our weekend away. Highly recommend.

We had a great day out with the lovely Hal and apprentice Kim back in August. It was such fun – the canoeing, scenery, campfire, and local knowledge of this beautiful area. We all loved it! Thank you Hal and Kim!
