Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Frequented the Wight Bear a few times & had a great experience. However, arrived yesterday at 2pm, bartender just opening up, told us to go in, place was empty. Just about to sit down, only to be told ‘you can’t sit there, that’s a regular’s seat & he won’t like it.’ Felt r”unwelcome so decided to leave. On our way out the bartender asked if there was a problem, I told her yeah, she wasn’t making us feel particularly welcome. She then proceeded to belittle me in the street in front of passers-by. Not a good look Wight Bear, I’ll be taking my custom elsewhere from now on.

I'm in here every week.... always a different local ale to try.... live music on a Tuesday is great fun.... try some of their pub snacks like pork pies and scotch eggs... or bring your pizza in from Baffi next door.... or your curry from All India.... and enjoy conversation with human beings... no TV, no phones, just old fashioned socialising.

Great friendly ale tasting bar with no music and rustic wooden seating but.........
Before they changed the layout it had a unique amazing atmosphere and a way of encouraging strangers to just start talking, board games to play with and lazy friendly hours to pass in a unique setting. Now it's still good, the beers and ciders are still good, but with the bar in the corner it's just like many other ale tasting bars.
Overall we still like it but it wasn't broken and didn't need fixing

Visited with friends for the first time since it has been renovated. We loved the back room area with its amazing book arch. Great selection of ales and a lovely white wine on draught.

Visited for the first time in quite a while. Ale selection isn’t as good as when I’ve previously visited but still very good and kept in a great condition. Seating area has been transformed to give more seats. Well worth a visit.

Fantastic little ale house with an eye-popping collection of beers to choose from. Friendly staff and atmosphere, with a cosy feel. A little on the small side with limited seating, but this adds to the ambience. Big fan!

Great range of ales and ciders on offer in the Bear with frequent rotations to keep even the most dedicated and regular of drinkers happy. Also, good wine and gin selection available. We love this place for its cosy and sociable atmosphere, and friendly and attentive staff. Furnishings are basic but functional and help create an environment in which customers are inclined to chit chat with each other even if strangers. If you need cheering up, pop in for a pint. You may even find Uncle Ron holding court and regaling fellow drinkers with tales of his life and times.
