I visited the museum before it was closed for a major renovation in2019/20. There is a small temporary exhibition in Brewery square. The lottery funded changes should produce a great museum focussing on the heritage of this lovely county.

We visited while the museum was getting ready to shut for building and refurbishment work. Entry was free and we really did not expect much. It was clear to see that this must have once been an elegant building but it looked in need of some TLC. I look forward to it reopening as the museum has many fine exhibits and with the new building it will be able to display more.…

The main museum in Dorchester's High street West is closed for some 18 months - 2 years in order to carry out extensive renovations. However, the museum now has gone on "tour", currently there is a very interesting "pop up" site in the Brewery Quarter, - just 100 yards from Dorchester South rail station. This obviously cannot exhibit anything like the extensive collection of the main site, but it is an interesting hour or two, and has two exceptional staff there. It is free and definitely worth seeking out.…

We visited this museum on a day trip to the town.Therewas a definite concentration on paintings of local worthies and some artefacts of historical interest..The museum was preparing to close soon for refurbishment so this probably detracted from the atmosphere. I am sure that this will improve when the reopening takes place.…
