This bar has closed down, was good while it lasted. For something similar there is a wine merchant just of brewery square offering sit down tastings in a nice setting.

Well, after several days of closed doors, the Dorset Echo announced that the "wine bar" had closed down. No notice, or thanks for custom, on the door! Rude in the extreme. Although my wife and I visited Durnovaria frequently: the ambience was never quite right. Furniture out of keeping with most decent wine bars. Food only available when more than... More

We had a wonderful evening there recently. What an attractive wine/cocktail bar with delicious local food served by a friendly and knowledgeable staff. They have a wonderful display of local artwork and are clearly intent on helping the local community in every way. What a welcome change from all the chain restaurants and pubs which seem to have taken over... More

I have been to this bar a few times over the last few months and enjoyed the venue until tonight. I and a close friend were shocked by the behaviour of a member of the staff which ruined a very good evening out for us. Having bought expensive cocktails which we had nearly drunk a certain horizontally challenged member foe... More

I visited here with family. It's clean and the staff were friendly. The cocktails looked interesting and there were adverts for a quiz night and live music. The menu was a bit confusing with some items needing some explanation. I asked what the Dorset Coppa was but I didn't ask what Dorchester Sauce was. I'm not keen on olives personally... More

Food - amazing!!! The food list is full of local produce and fresh yummy goodness. The staff gave great descriptions of everything on the menu and clearly knew their stuff!! We asked for two seperate dishes as we intended to share half of each for variety - nicely they did this in the kitchen for us! However the salad was... More

We stopped here by chance at lunch time... the staff were really friendly and we had all kinds of cold meat and cheese platters and salads : all fresh and tasty -from local produce.... we couldn't leave without purchasing some more of the gorgeous smoky Dorset cheese and some great chutneys! Would love to come again at night!

Durnovaria is Dorchester's best drinking establishment in my opinion! Friendly staff, a fantastic selection of wines and wonderful food all sourced locally - it reminds me of osterias in Italy. The meat, cheese and now fish platters all taste wonderful and knowing that they have come from local producers is great as it means a lot to me to support... More
