We went on the Steam & Lights trip on 27th December whilst visiting the area for Christmas and had a fantastic trip! Lovely atmosphere, as another reviewer has mentioned the music in the carriages adds to the event, and we were lucky enough to see a stag and deer family in the fields just outside Corfe (who seemed transfixed by the spectacle of the lit-up train!) . A lovely end to our holiday - thank you Swanage Railway volunteers!,

Such a magical trip, we couldn’t have wished for a better event just before Christmas. We were a group aged 19-82 yrs and all felt like 6 years old again! The music in the carriages made it even more special and we tried to spot the elves and fairies dotted along the bank on the journey. We would totally recommend this light steam trip for everyone, it’s great fun.

We booked a table for Christmas lunch on 22nd. As the time got closer we were a bit concerned it wouldn't happen but it did and it was fantastic. We've been before and it never fails to impress. A lovely leisurely trip through some beautiful countryside while enjoying a three course Christmas meal. Thanks to everyone. It's a challenging time and you did a great job.

I bought a table on the Christmas Luncheon train for my dad for Christmas. We booked on for Saturday 18th Dec. We arrived a little early as wasn't sure how long it would take us but, luckily it only took 2.5hrs. We were able to wait in the station waiting room until closer to the time we could board. The station is small and very quaint. There were two trains in the station, the Christmas luncheon and the Christmas Lights train - which looked very cool and can imagine even better in the dark with the lights on. It was still necessary to wear face masks due to the pandemic. On boarding the train, we were shown to our table, beautifully decorated with our bottle of prosecco waiting for us. The carriage had Christmas decorations and all of the volunteer 'wait staff' had Christmas jumpers and hats (as well as their face masks on) We had a lovely 4 course meal (items chosen on booking), Prawn Cocktail, Turkey roast dinner, Christmas pudding / Fruit salad and Mince pies and coffee - nice sized portions - we were 'suitably stuffed' lol We ordered drinks with the bar staff as they came around the carriages and it's a cash only bar. The train goes to Norden and back multiple times - you have about 10 mins wait at each end for the engine to manoeuvre to the front of the train for each return trip. All in all, it was just over three hours. It was a lovely experience and dad loved it (albeit nervous with everything) and I would recommend it.

We choose Saturday evening for the Steam and Christmas light show. Purchased 2 tables for the grandchildren. The station and train looked nice on the outside, but was disappointed on the dreary inside which was dark and eerie for the kids. The music to start with was very bland and eerie sounding which didn’t help settling the little ones. The lights were pretty poor on the run up to Norden station. Norden station was boring with no Christmas lights. I had been wanting to do this for many years but couldn’t justify the cost, now I wish I hadn’t bothered. Sorry for the bad review but it was definitely not worth the money. Come on give the customer their monies worth. On the plus side the carriages seemed to be clean and covid friendly. Try playing some music that children like to hear at Christmas time. Nearly everyone in the carriages were on the phones trying to kids amused. Go to Bournemouth town centre and see the lights for free, it’s a much better choice.
