    Magical evening
We visited for the illuminated Christmas train, and sat in the Pullman observation car. Brilliant value, lovely canapés, lots of champagne, great friendly staff. An evening to remember and which we hope to repeat.

    Steam train driving experience.
Yes, you can actually drive a steam train at Swanage Railway!! This may not be the cheapest experience you will ever get the pleasure of doing but its worth every penny, plus when you consider the costs involved for the Railway it makes it more justified. We were welcomed on the platform and shown round the engine and coaches, then up onto the footplate to meet our driver and the fireman (who's names i cant remember but they were amazing!), after a bit of safety stuff we were shown the controls and off we went whilst being talked through the process. Upon returning to the station at Swanage, grinning from ear to ear we were given a nice big goodie bag to remember the experience by. Rail enthusiast or not I'd say if you get the chance to do this then do it!!!

    Lovely steam railway
Lovely steam railway. Parked at the main beach car park in Swanage which is £1 all day in February and only a short walk to the station. Main object was to visit Corfe Castle en route.

    Heritage Railway, value for money
We got the £25 “Freedom Pass” ticket that allowed us to travel on any train (steam or diesel), as many times as we liked between Swanage and Wareham for the day. The new trial extension to Wareham was great, lovely countryside scenery to look at. I really hope this becomes permanent as next time we visit Swanage I’d love to leave the car at home!

    First visit to the railway.
Our first visit to Swanage Railway. It was very interesting to find out about the history of the railway and how it has been built up over the years by hard dedicated work. One steam and one diesel running on Easter Monday and a good selection of carriages. The journey is approximately 25 minutes with some lovely views. All the staff were very helpful and knowledgeable. All in we enjoyed our day out on the line.

A perfectly wonderful day out !
What a wonderful day out and about on the Swanage Railway. Perfect weather and our trip was made even more wonderful by the fabulous staff. Nothing was too much trouble (2 of our party had mobility problems). They went out of their way for us, can't thank them enough.

    Brilliant Diesel Gala
The annual Swanage Diesel and Beer Gala. Another long trek from Kent to Dorset but it was well worthwhile. A great range of home and visiting engines plus great cooked food made it a great event as usual. Full marks to the station staff at Norden and Corfe stations for keeping everyone happy. Thoroughly enjoyed it and will be back again next year!

A great day out with lovely staff in the Dorset countryside
Visited with my husband and 2 year old boy. We were staying at Norden Farm and had a couple of train experiences over the week, the main one being a day with a 'freedom of the line' pass, where we could hop on and off all day, at £25 per adult (tiddlers go free). All of the staff were lovely, and my little boy was enthralled all day long. We've always loved the Purbeck scenery, and the railway is great to combine with visits to Swanage, Wareham, and Corfe Castle. I'd advise going on a green timetable day (when they run steam and diesel trains) to get the most out of the freedom ticket.

    Wonderful Experience
Took the steam train from Norden to Swanage and the return was by diesel. The volunteers were friendly and knowledgeable. The return fare was £18;00 each which was reasonble but we did pay the additional £3: to sit in the viewing carriage which had lovley comfortable chairs and 2 seater sofas and bigger windows. Would recommend a ride on the Swanage railway.

The trip on the steam train was ok, but the day was completely spoilt by the land of time keeping. The first training the day from corfe castle was late by 10 minutes, by the time we returned from Swanage, the 14.02 departure was running a whole hour late, unfortunately that ruined our plans for the remainder of the day. This somewhat took the edge off the return journey!!

We took the 10am from Swanage to Norden via Corfe Castle return. From start to finish it was fabulous. All of the staff are amazing and I love their passion for what they do. Would highly recommend.

Very disappointing for the price paid. £18 per adult, one a senior but no reduced price advertised or offered. The engines were kept in great condition but inside were dirty and grimy and really needed some love. The approx. 35 min return journey was not worth it unfortunately. Luckily great views of Corfe Castle saved the day.

We had a nostalgic trip on the steam railway to Corfe Castle. Before the return journey we had a good look around the museum at the station and a coffee in the station restaurant.

Lovely renovated line between Corfe Castle and Swanage manned by volunteers who have done a great job equipping and restoring and running this bit of history to 1950s condition.
Both termini situated very close to the town centres which make for easy sightseeing. Volunteers all helpful and very friendly.

A little disappointing. Used steam railway as park and ride to go into Swanage and everything was just OK, nothing stood out to grab my attention. The catering facilities at Swanage are a little too small and could be improved. The worse thing was the state of the engine which could only be described as filthy, I have been on most preserved railways in the UK and this was the first time I have come across an engine in such a state.

What an attraction this is. Kind, friendly and helpful staff and a lovely journey from Corfe to Swanage through beautiful countryside. We then returned a few days later to the tea room and museum and equally delightful. Can’t praise their efforts highly enough both in rebuilding and running this piece of nostalgia.
The only sobering thought is that if it was a normal, mainline station, there wouldn’t be anywhere near as many passengers!

For me was the one attraction in the area I wanted to visit on our holiday and it didn't disappoint. A long time since I went on a steam/heritage railway but this was by far one of the best I've been to. The stations and carriages were all in noticeably great condition, with the stations decorated in the 'golden age of steam' fashion - they look great.
It's gets busy, we got the 1040hrs train out of Norden and we were lucky to get a seat so get there early - there is a luggage carriage for wheelchairs/buggies
Tickets can be bought online, on the platform or with the ticket inspector, kids under 5 go free (!) and adults were a very reasonable £18 open return. Journey to Swanage took about 20 mins and was very picturesque with a great view of Corfe Castle. The numerous return journies allows for ample time exploring Swanage. There are various museums at the different stations to explore and a shop at Swanage station. Staff were very helpful and a pleasure to see being so enthusiastic about working there - certainly added to the experience.
