We-my brother and I plus our Cocker Spaniel-visited the apartment for a week in June. Excellent location, but we were somewhat disappointed with the accomodation. The place is listed as having undergone renovation, but found the kitchen area was not good for our needs. The draining board was far too small, and we had difficulty in not losing the plates (Ikea) into the sink. The seating was very uncomfortable, and we could not envisage 7 persons coping with the space. Also no bath was an inconvenience, also no hanging space in the single/bunk bedrooms. There was no garden or outside space for our dog. Having said all the above, what a cracking position the apartment is in, literally right on the seafront, and just round the corner from the shops. My husband and I have always loved the old fashioned charm of Swanage and I guess always will. There is plenty to amuse and enjoy for all ages and what a relief to be without hundreds of amusement arcades and big funfairs. Children can experience the cost free fun of playing on a sandy beach and paddling. There is still the old Punch and Judy show watched by wide eyed youngsters. The railway is a great attraction too and other lovely beaches within a 20 minute drive. It's a brilliant place for divers and walkers too along the heritage coast. However the town centre is a nightmare to negotiate for wheelchair users. Dropped kerbs have to be searched for each time you want to cross the road meaning you often have to go 200 yards or more out if your way to find a place to get off the pavements. The car park above the pier is totally inaccessible without wheelchair and scooter users having to travel along the road for a considerable distance as in the section there are no dropped kerbs to be found at all. And if an inconsiderate motorist parks alongside the dropped kerb then you've had it really! It becomes too tiring trying to negotiate your way through. Many shops have steps so again we cannot access them or looking at it another way, they lose our custom. Pubs too are difficult to access and in peak season when the masses lose all sense of goodwill and consideration to others then you know you're wasting your time even trying. So we shall continue to visit for a day out if peak season as long as I have to will power to overcome these obstacles but having a holiday there would be too wearing. It's a shame when a little thinking and planning by the council would find cheap and easy solutions to a lot if these problems. This is why I have only awarded it 3 stars - it deserves 5 stars but for me because I'm in a wheelchair it only rates 3. A…
