Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It is clear most reviewers have never actually looked at it properly. It has openings in the sides which depict the continents of the world disappearing into the interior in a mysterious way. When standing on the landward side, the etched lines on the surface guide your eye to the view of the horizon through the hole in the centre. It's not meant to put your face through!
If you take the time to look at it, rather than just dismissing it offhand, it is very beautiful. As a Brighton resident I take the time to look at it every time I pass.

Walked past this small object on the promenade twice before noticing people taking photographs. Not worth any fuss at all to be honest.

Worth a look if your passing.
Basically a big metal doughnut.
Not sure what it signifies but looks good.
Go get your selfies with it.

Any picture you've seen about the Brighton doghnut is *exactly* how it looks. It's some old weathered, chipped and battered green doughnut shaped structure sitting on the edge of a small pier. It's a funny photo place, but don't feel the need to make the trek to it.
It's next to the Palace Pier so if you're coming back from it you might as well go.

Well whatever it is, it has a hole in the middle and people seem to want to have their photograph taken with it, but not me.

It's a giant sphincter. I stuck my face in the giant sphincter. I promise you nobody calls it a donut.

Ann8 foot donut that has a hole in the middle. It’s nothing special and not much by way of art or creativity to it. Not worth seeing.

There’s not much to say about this sculpture that hasn’t already been recorded. But it is right next to the pier on the west side. A photo opportunity and a bit of fun.

The actual name of the piece is Afloat, however it is affectionately known as The Doughnut.
This bronze sculpture stands at just over eight feet tall at the end of a groyne by the Palace Pier.
What a perfect position for the sculpture as walking the Pier, eating doughnuts is synonymous with Brighton.
A good photo opportunity, would have like to take a photograph but there was some guy standing there, for a while, trying to shove his head through the hole in the centre of the doughnut, so gave up.

This is an iconic photo opportunity. Yes, it is a doughnut, but it is a Brighton doughnut! What's not to like?

Is it just a piece of public art or does it mark or commemorate anything? We just liked the look of it and happily moved on, didn't think to see if there were any signs or labels.

Hi back and take a closer look at the surface. It does have meaning but I won't ruin the surprise :)
