When I was a young lad in Brighton & Hove, this was probably my favourite place to visit (well, apart from Brighton & Hove Albion's Goldstone Ground!). In my opinion, it was the better of the two piers especially the displays of buildings made out of matchsticks. So, it is so sad to see the rusting ruins standing forlornly out... More

Alas, the West Pier is a ruin. But this does not stop it from being home to thousands of starlings who flock to roost here in huge numbers just before sunset. Like a shoal of fish, made of birds in the sky, a murmuration is a large group of birds who appear to be one interconnected moving shape. An oval,... More

Brighton was once the pried owner of two piers but the town evidently wasn't big enough for both of them - so one of them had to go! I believe it last had paying visitors in the late 1960s or early 1970s, but despite its, some would say tragic decline, it still periodically makes the headlines and pulls in the... More

The skeletal structure reminds you of what it once was. Now just a shell standing in the sea. Hubby loved it as he took some great photos, me...just made me sad.

It is difficult to visit Brighton without going to the West Pier, especially if you have children as it can be the highlight of their day, with all the fares and seaside resort holiday atmosphere, ice creams, doughnuts and during the summer, tourists getting very red on deckchairs. It is wonderfully awful with the coin machines and cheap frills but... More

Go on the Dolphin Derby on The Pier well worth the money for the laughs you get. If you are lucky to have the sun grab a deckchair and take in the rays, simply beautiful with the sea breeze and blue waters below.

good rides but disappointing that only open until 4pm. Friendly staff, usual pier food - toilets could be cleaner and hot water to wash hands

Clearly people are confusing this sad skeleton of what was a pier with Brighton's Palace Pier further along the seafront - this is the West Pier and there is virtually nothing left of it and what is left is just an eyesore. Please rebuild or remove!

Closed since 1975, this pier fell into disrepair, collapsed at the start of the century and suffered two major fires in 2003 leaving very little to see above the water. The ruins of the pier are still visable however, but there is nothing else to see or do. Not to be confused with Brighton Pleasure Pier, which is still very... More
