The perfect start to your visit to Rye! The Rye Heritage Centre is the home of the 'Story of Rye' Town Model Sound and Light show, a handmade scale model of Victorian Rye that plays a show that takes you through 700 years of Rye's history. Historic Audio Walking Tours are available for hire, with guided ghost tours available on selected dates during the winter months. The Heritage Centre is also host to a fantastic working collection of Old Pier Penny Arcade amusement machines, and has a wide variety of books and maps on Rye and the surrounding area, as well as exclusive locally made pottery and souvenirs in the gift shop.

We have visited the heritage centre many times now and the staff are always helpful. The light and sound exhibition is really worthwhile seeing to give you an insight into the history of this chocolate box pretty little town.

Great place to start when exploring Rye. Lots of information and leaflets to collect about rye and the surrounding towns. It also houses an exhibition for a small fee.

Helpful staff, pick up map of town so you get to see all the key places. Not sure about the display of town, looked a bit tacky so didn’t go in.

We didn't do the show about the model of the village, which looks impressive in its own room, we did do the ancient penny arcade upstairs which isn't really for kids as the machines are from Victorian times. Some of them are pretty creepy !...More

Hi Jill, The Town Model is £3.50 per adult and £1 per child, and the Old Pier Penny Arcade is free to view, or Old Pennies are available to buy in the centre to play on the machines. Hope to see you soon!
