Quite a lovely old town but did not live up to all the hype as 'England's best preserved town'. Enjoyed wandering the streets and, yes, there are some lovely buildings and the cobblestones add character but, please, get a grip on reality.

Allan is a personable, energetic and informative guide to all sights and history connected to E.F. Benson, the Mapp & Lucia series of books and the two televised programs based on this series. Just under two hours in length, the walking tour takes you to all of houses mentioned in the books or shown in the tv programs, plus provides... More

Rye is a very pretty town which has been used on numerous occasions for different films and most recently the mapp & Lucia television series.

My wife and I visited Rye purely on the basis of the TV show broadcast Christmas 2015, and we weren't disappointed. It is a great place to visit with magnificent architecture and excellent places to visit nearby. Rye warrants at least a couple of days to do it full justice.

A lovely quaint town with some cobbled narrow streets and some old and interesting buildings. There are plenty of good reasons why you should visit or stay here, even if you have no interest in the Mapp & Lucia connection. The Heritage Centre staff were very helpful and can provide guides or advice to make your visit more enjoyable. There... More

Here with my wife - a fan of Mapp & Lucia - so pottering around the locations. Even without that connection, this is a lovely place to explore. Cobbled streets, ancient buildings and interesting shops makes for a great day out here. Will definitely be back for more hours of delightful pottering around.

Stayed for the weekend and loved it. We came because we had seen the Mapp and Lucia episodes on TV, but the whole place is a delight. Lamb House, home to Henry James and E F Benson-see separate review- 14th century church, cobbled streets and fascinating shops, museums and castle. Too much to see, we will be back again. Browse... Regardless of the Literary connection Rye is a brilliant place to visit in itself. The architecture is a delight and the random and ecliptic shops all add to the experience. Next time it will be an overnight stay.

Rye is a fantastic little town. We have been visiting for a number of years and never get fed up with it. It is so historic with cobbled, streets, timber-framed and Georgian houses and very different architecture. There are some interesting shops to visit, including a number of antique places down by the Strand. The church is worth a visit... More
