3rd pub on our walk-about

We wanted to visit pubs outside the town because they get left out of the loop sometimes. This pub sit opposite what was once a pipe makers factory - hence the name. The pub looks... read more

Came here to watch the rugby on a weekend away. It's a typical sports bar got busy when the game was on but not busy before. Beer wasn't great I have to say. Served a purpose I guess.

Rye, although beautiful, is not always a welcoming place. Hordes of trippers in the summer, deserted streets in Winter. The more well to do locals concentrate on a few expensive restaurants and the George hotel, but where to go for a jolly evening with a few friends. The emphatic answer is the Pipe Makers. No gastro pub here, but a... More

I needed somewhere in Rye to watch the rugby as it was on Sky tv. I spent a pleasant couple of hours in this no frills local, which has a largish room and big screen dedicated to live tv. There was a good atmosphere and I enjoyed a decent couple of pints of ale. I gather it also has live... More

We wanted to visit pubs outside the town because they get left out of the loop sometimes. This pub sit opposite what was once a pipe makers factory - hence the name. The pub looks older that it is and despite its rough and ready appearance, the interior is pleasant. The staff were polite and a regular customer was most... More

We had a quick pint in the sun whilst waiting for our train back to London! Quick service and ice cold pint and the sun was out! Perfect!

Very busy town and sports pub with two large bars. Comfortable with friendly staff and clientele. A 'proper pub'.

We popped in the"pipes" for a quick pint 3rd March pm, ended up having a few more, made very welcome by all, a real pub, not many about these days. We will return soon. Henpecked.

We received a really friendly welcome when we popped in asking if they allowed dogs which they did in the saloon bar. The beer was good as was the merlot. The place had a good atmosphere with plenty of seats and tables. It also has a separate sports bar with an enormous screen as well.

Rye has a lot of drinking establishments but "the Pipes" is definitely the best in town. Saturday night always has a live band on. A good range of reasonably priced beers, wines and spirits. It's full of locals but tourists are warmly welcomed. Come in as a stranger and leave as a friend. No food but that's what a real... More
