I visited Holst's birthplace with a friend some tie ago and we were fascinated with each room. Especially the nursery where Holst would have played with his toys and learnt his first music. Highly recommended.

I'm a music teacher, so visiting this place was the highlight of my trip to Cheltenham. Gustav Holst's family immigrated to England from Latvia. Holst was born in this house and lived here for a short period of time. The museum is run entirely by volunteers and is struggling to stay afloat, especially after they encountered significant water damage and... More

Dear Amy C The Museum is so pleased to hear that your visit to us was a highlight of your Cheltenham trip. As you mention we recently suffered a flood last year and are just getting back to normal after being closed for 6 months. The Museum has now been beautifully restored with gorgeous wallpaper, hand printed from the Cole... More

Not just the Gustav Holst collection but a period furnished house to explore. Kitchen and Nursery will interest the children.

The museum is a fascinating place to visit, giving a good look at Holst's life and work, as well as having a charming social history section with a working basement kitchen.

Been meaning to come for years, did it. Very interesting building, the Holst family home. It is not good for people who can't do stairs. The staff were very welcoming.

Dear Jamaal823 We're so pleased that you managed to find us 'at last' and had such a good time exploring the house. We hope that you will return after our refurbishments as when you came the upstairs was not accessible. We look forward to showing you around a newly restored Victorian Bedroom, Regency Sitting Room and Children's Nursery! Thanks again... More

Closed, with no warning, wasted journey, do not go without phoning first. The Holst Birthplace Museum suffered an ingress of water during torrential downpours in June 2016. This caused severe damage to three of the Museum’s period room settings and damage to another. There was also water damage to a small part of the collection which has been removed for... More

From J Boy of Derby Great little museum the volunteers work really hard and are very helpful I congratulate them. There is a 30minute video which helps the visitors Plenty of things to try on eg clothes etc. The highlight has got to be the piano in which Holst composed The Planets. The basement is interesting with a typical Victorian... More

The Holst Birthplace Museum is hardly in central Cheltenham but was one of the reasons that we were visiting the town. It probably took us 20 minutes to reach on foot from the Montpellier area but it does take you away from the Georgian part of the town through a more modern area before reaching the property. The volunteer staff... More

Even if you are not a music buff there is plenty to interest you in visiting this typical period home. Brought back memories for me of times gone by and I learned a few new things along the way. Fun to try on the hats and find out who wore them.

Went with family and friends and thoroughly enjoyed this museum. Was a lovely mix of information and things to do. The kids did some Victorian traditional cooking and then we all did the mandala workshop. Well worth a visit especially on one of their workshop days. Thanks to all the volunteers that keep this lovely place going
