We found my 1941 birthplace, the former Imperial Nursing Home, and then had a good wander in the Montpellier district, where the literature festival was being set up. Montpellier Walk is particularly delightful and elegant, with many attractive shops, including at least one good place...More

We were introduced to this area of Cheltenham by a local Foodie Guide who gave us a very interesting history of the area and the famous Cheltenham Ladies College where refined ladies are still 'finished'. Alas the area has generally been allowed to run down...More

The centre of Cheltenham has an undeniably continental feel to it and the broad sweep of the Promenade is in a large part responsible for this. Fantastic architecture and the tree-lined spaces with interesting shops and hostelries give a great impression of the city.

We were in Cheltenham for the Literature Festival, which is based in this district. It's a nice, safe, up-market area, with lots of grand houses and nice architecture.

Don't forget this area of Cheltenham, a short walk from the shopping centre but worth the stroll. Georgian architecture at its' best, fine dining available from a selection of restaurants. Visit Harry Cooks' bar, no relative although my grandad was called Harry Cook.

This is a fabulous place to shop to eat or to stay. Very classy. Full of lovely restaurants and bars. The shops are individual and offer a variety of interesting purchases. There are two parks and the most beautiful Regency buildings. Certainly worth a visit.

It is really nice place to just walk around, enjoy numerous shops and cafes. It is pretty quiet area. I like the feeling of this place. Like 50 years ago. And if you feel enough of this, you can always visit Imperial gardens.

Spent a pleasant afternoon pottering around the shops here. It's away from the chain shops and there are some pleasant restaurants and coffee shops to choose from.

Get the 94 bus from Gloucester to Cheltenham. Drops you on the promenade which is also lovely and only a two minute walk to Montpellier
