About
The newly re-opened Wilson Art Gallery and Museum is hosting a summer of discovery, from the tots and tales storytelling, and children’s Bang the Drum music making, to uncovering archaeology and creating fossils, to making your own jewellery with jeweller Josie Wickes. The Creative Explorers summer craft club will keep younger visitors busy. The artist led informal workshop summer holiday club is for children aged four to 10 giving them the opportunity to express themselves artistically and explore their creativity. And, there’s the new exhibitions to explore too, Breaking the Cycle and Body Beautiful showcasing diversity on the catwalk and prompting thoughts and creativity on how we can all reuse and repurpose our clothes to protect the environment. Take a look at the summer programme of activities and workshops.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The art and history in some of the rooms was really interesting. The open archive although eclectic was really interesting. However overall it was a muted experience with what seemed to be a good chunk of the place shut down as they were working on it. The cafe on the ground floor although bright and clean and the staff friendly had broken charge ports which was frustrating. The latte I had was a reasonable price but poor quality. Bitter despite the syrup in the drink.

Im a local resident and artist.i visited to look at it to scope it out but sadly it left me cold. Dead spaces, incredibly poor lighting ( as a sufferer of Macular degeneration I need decent lighting) impossible to read labels. Virtually no art to be seen. Baking hot on the top floor making it insufferable to remain in the gallery. A huge waste of public money to build. Cheltenham deserves better. On the plus side, children were enjoying the play areas. We didnt stop to eat or drink.

Where is the Art? From looking at previous reviews, after I had visited, there used to be art but it has all gone in the revamp. I was left bewildered, there seemed a total lack of anything to see.

Lovely building massive wasted opportunity- please return the Art to the Art Gallery!

Had a very quick visit to this art gallery and museum yesterday. The website shows the closing time of 6pm (Tues - Sat) but sadly that is incorrect. The art gallery and museum close at 5pm each day which meant we had to cut short our visit. Fortunately a staff member called Jacqueline saved the day by being extremely helpful and advising us of key things to see with very limited time. The Arts and Crafts section was most enjoyable and the current exhibition “The Frozen Continent” extremely interesting. As we are not locals, we will have to arrange another future date to return to be able to fully appreciate everything. From what we saw we rate the venue and exhibition 5 (but their inaccurate website 1).
We hope the website can be amended quickly with accurate closing times!
We believe other visitors have been misled too.
Very annoying especially when you are not local!

Sorry to be so negative but the « new » Wilson is a shadow of its former self.
I’m not sure what thinking has gone into the revamp but at the heart of it should surely be the collection.
I came to see the amazing Arts and Crafts collection but was so disappointed. I’ll come again in a couple of years and hope for the best.

After many visits at the Wilson Art Gallery coffee shop, where my family and I often enjoyed great tasting open top sandwiches, I was shocked at the food we were served on our recent visit - the menu has been changed and for the price the food was incredibly poor quality. The baguettes and panini we had were dry, tasteless and cold, the tuna melt we received (pictured) was cold, had no cheese on, and the tuna was dry and looked old. Never again will we make this mistake. Rather go elsewhere!!!!!!

This museum has a serene ambiance and friendly staff, but I found the exhibits to be limited. However, it has potential for growth.

I loved it here. I particularly liked the painting called Changing the Horses at the Plough inn. The art classes were great too and were run by a really friendly art teacher and another artist who was really knowledgeable.
The gallery displays everything really well and the cafe is excellent!

This really didn't cut it for me.
Maybe it was because several galleries were out of commission for re-fit, but there wasn't much to hold my attention.
Writing this 2 weeks after my visit, I find I can remeber very little at all
