About
The Corinium Museum is located at the heart of Cirencester the 'Capital of the Cotswolds'. Its principal collection consists of the highly significant finds from the Roman town of Corinium. However the museum today is much more than that, taking the visitor on a journey through time and charting the development of the Cotswolds from its prehistoric landscape to the modern day. The light and modern galleries offer the visitor an exceptional interactive experience. The museum is renowned for its learning provision, with an education centre and temporary exhibition space that ensure a vibrant, changing programme of events and activities for everyone to enjoy.

Fascinating museum. The exhibits are laid out in chronological order from the Stone Age through to the modern age. The Roman Period has the most exhibits but this is only to be expected seeing the Cirencester (Corinium) was the capital of Britannia during one period of the Raman occupation and was there was also a legionary fortress there.

If you're in the Cotswolds and looking for a great Roman museum, this is the place. The two-story museum is very handicap-accessible, well-lit and roomy. They have some great exhibits and a fantastic floor mosaic. We were so interested in one of the volunteers' talks about the mosaics, my wife and I hung around with him for almost half an hour (we weren't being greedy with his time, but nobody else in the museum seemed to be as interested as the two of us). My only recommendation is if someone in your party is handicapped, drive around the block a few times until one of the drop-off spots in front of the door opens up. Don't try to walk all the way from the main car park (in the drizzle) with a walker.

We were pleasantly surprised with this museum. They have certainly given the second largest Roman city a very good presentation - well worth the money for the Roman remains alone - especially the mosaics! The prehistoric period (usually a bit boring) is also well done.
A modern museum with lots of exhibits presented very well. Great for children looking for Romans in particular!

A very enjoyable museum visit in date order. In particular we liked the Roman era.
The mosaics were very good.
We did this after we had a guided walking tour of cirencester.
Great afternoon.

The museum is very effective at telling the story of Cirencester and presents small and large exhibits in an interesting way. Very impressed with the Roman era exhibits, the others are good as well! There are good write ups about everything and technology is used well to provide more details.

Well presented and centrally located. Nicely laid out and interesting for all. There was quite a lot to engage children and currently a trail (find 10 dogs). Staff were all friendly. Gift shop, cafe and toilets on site. We arrived at 3pm on a rainy school holiday day and it was quiet.

An excellent museum. We expected it to be only about Roman Cirencester but it isn't. It is so much more. The exhibits are well presented and the information provided is enlightening. You can easily spend a day here and not notice the time go by. Would certainly recommend that anyone visiting Cirencester should include the Corinium Museum on their "to do" list

Really cool ancient Roman artifacts in a well done museum. There was a great kids' guide. Our 8 and 10 year old kids loved it, too.

Is it appropriate for a four-year-old? If so, which exhibits would they like the most?
Corinium Museum
Cirencester, UK
Hi Will, thanks for your question. Admission for under 5's is free and we have lots of interactive activities which will appeal to a four year old. You can make a magnetic mosaic, try our Dannicus trail around the museum (to look for Dannicus the dog) or use one of our stay and play areas designed for younger visitors. I hope you enjoy your visit and please don't hesitate to ask if you have any other questions.

I don't know how it ended up a one star, it was supposed to be a 5.
