- Steve GreenCheltenham, United Kingdom28 contributionsYear round interestWe have visited a few times during 2022 and the garden has so much seasonal interest we just keep going back. Decided to buy a year pass as it was great value so now we’re addicted. One of the bonuses of our visits is always the Bothy tea room, such a wide choice of hot and cold drinks and very tasty home made cakes and unbelievably the whole place still runs on an honesty box. It restores your faith in the world. We’ll be back to see the snowdrops after Christmas.Visited November 2022Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 December 2022
- Gale O1 contributionA lovely dayBeautiful peaceful day. Delicious cake and I understand goats cheese, if available, is not to be missed. Entrance and purchases, all very reasonably priced are managed by honesty box system, what a refreshing change. Snowdrops were beautiful and there will be much more to enjoy through the seasons we are sure. We purchased a friends card and will be frequent visitors over the next 12 months. Thankyou, Gale and Jeff, Swindon.Visited February 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 14 February 2023

- DreambigCrowborough, United Kingdom146 contributionsA walled garden delight.I do love a walled garden and as son got married nearby day before wanted a short walk with my second love in life - flowers. Lovely vistas and rambling borders of delphiniums, dianthus, roses, pelargoniums, allium heads, hostas, peonies, rudbeckia and scabious name but a few. The walled garden is not huge but rather a space to be ambled through. Within these walls lies a tea room not to be missed! Serve yourself hot drinks in an outdoor kitchen. Very clean and homely with another honesty system to pay by card. The delight here was the home made cake. Hubby went for the biggest slice of lemon cake and me a moist coffee and walnut cake. Another customer told us the cakes are baked by the man who owns the house and what a fine baker he is too! Would go out of my way to visit here again for the cake alone.Visited June 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 26 June 2023
- freedom_foodiesBridgwater, United Kingdom79 contributionsA little treasureWent on a very hot day and took advantage of the covered areas. Lots of interesting plants, trees and shrubs. The area laid out with plants used for medicinal purposes enlightening. So nice to find an open garden that accepts dogs on leads! This was a bonus for us as we were on holiday with our well behaved Labrador. He enjoyed the woodland walk and treats at the “honesty” cafe. We enjoyed a lovely coffee and slice of homemade cake in the shade. Atmosphere was lovely. Enjoyed the gardens immensely. Highly recommended. Thank you.Visited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 July 2023
- Lee GBampton, United Kingdom100 contributionsHidden spot of tranquility and excellent cakeThis is a hidden gem in all ways. A spot of tranquility that once found will now most likely be visited many more time. It is easy to find with the satnav but is not massively signposted and is off the beaten track but to us that is all part of the charm. Car parking is excellent, with considering a smaller garden area, is well conceived and laid out for all. The honesty, flexible system on arrival is fantastic and guides are so helpful. While the garden is laid out what can be classed as formally, their is a level of not that high level manicure you can see that let's you think you can take a snippet of the idea of the garden and replicate it in your own garden. There are so many areas, so much variation in planting style you can't help finding something to inspire and enjoy. Fantastic. And plenty of areas to sit and just take that tranquility in. The Bothy Tea Room needs a very special mention. Again the self help, honesty system is so refreshing. The selection is fantastic for teas and the cake, well you can tell it's home made, massive portion size and each piece is fantastic. I could rave for a long while about this. Everything is so reasonably priced too. My wife and I really enjoyed our trip here and will almost certainly be going back to see it in the different seasons. And remember to keep your eye out for the Roman Snails!Visited August 2023Written 20 August 2023

A wonderful, informal garden with gentle slopes and colourful borders. Good vistas. You help yourself to tea or coffee. We had a most enjoyable afternoon there.

We are going to be nearby next week ,Sept 20 th, is there much colour in the gardens or has it gone over ?
Also can we bring a small packed lunch to have in the gardens?
Many thanks.

Hello, we were at Cerney House gardens on 24th August. To be honest there wasn't an awful lot of colour. Some individual flowers were colourful but the overall look wasn't colourful. With regard to the picnic, they class the car parking area as the picnic area too, having said that we did see people eating their own food in the garden.
Hope this helps.

We're visiting the area this August and would love to tour a quiet garden that isn't too formal and over-manicured (I've seen plenty of those around the world). Am I totally off-base in thinking that the slightly overgrown and hidden nature of the Cerney gardens (as described in the reviews) actually sounds really charming and lovely? Or do these gardens veer more towards dilapidated and unattractive?
I hope that question makes sense...thanks for any feedback!

Hi,
I work part time at Cerney Gardens and believe they would suit your needs perfectly. The Gardens are extremely quiet and not at all formal. This is a family run garden and does not operate in the same way as those run by large organisations. The Gardens are not overrun with visitors and you may even find, you have the whole garden to yourselves to enjoy the beauty and tranquillity.
There is a large walled garden that contains vegetable plots, flower borders, a knot garden and a large greenhouse. You can purchase a cup of tea/coffee from the Bothy along with slices of homemade cake. Paths through the woodland lead down to the front of the house. Here you can amble between the flower borders and appreciate the stunning spectacle of the house within the grounds.
The Gardens are most certainly not dilapidated and unattractive
This really is a charming and lovely place to spend a couple of hours.
I hope this helps with your decision and that you will visit us in August.
