Starting in the pretty Cotswold market town of Painswick, the southern section of this National Trail follows the ridge of the Cotswold escarpment through delightfully undulating countryside and picturesque villages to Bath. This is a challenging but fun golf course. There are a number of hills to climb and don't be misled by the short yardage of the course. Unlike some courses we visit each hole at Painswich has its own character and personality. We particularly liked the sixth which is the SI 1 par 3 which has tremedous view and although we all got our pars it was more by luck than judgement to some extent. We also love the fifteenth which is another downhill par 3 but seemed to play a little longer than we all expected. The course was in reasonable condition, but perfectly playable our only criticism would be the state of the greens which were in a little need of loving care. However, given the world wide problems we are encountering that comment seems a little disengenuous!! We played the Old Course at St Pierre the following day and we all decided that if we were to visit the area again it would be Painswick we would prefer to play again. Due to the virus there was no food on so cannot comment on this aspect but all members and staff that we met made us feel very welcome.

We are hiking north to south, and this spot is located just before one arrives in Painswick. We had lunch (smoked mackerel fish cakes for me and nachos with Texas beed brisket for my daughter) and cider. It was delicious and fresh and the proprietors were very welcoming despite our disheveled state on this hot day. Highly recommended.

Just had my second visit, this time it was fathers day, and the place was buzzing, yet still the owners had time to personally greet us all .This place has a great food which they seem genuinely proud of, and proud of they should be!!. Well done, all my party will be returning for sure.

I visited to try the 18 hole golf course. It played incredibly hilly and windy but made for a good test and required a lot of thinking. Fairways and greens weren't in the best shape but the club pro and fellow members were very friendly. Ideal for walkers and dog walkers too.
