Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The course is in amazing condition considering the wet winter and the challenges of producing a course with great greens on common land. I absolutely love this golf course with very tricky holes, great / fantastic views and a warm welcome from the clubhouse team. Anyone who hasn't played this course really should.

Went to meet friends for Sunday lunch. We were told it’s delicious and they weren’t joking. Plenty of beautifully cooked meat and help yourself to as much sides as you like.
Red cabbage, cauliflower cheese and much much more. I was stuffed. Will return.

I had wanted to play this course for a while as it regularly features on lists of fun golf courses to play and value for money. We finally found a date that suited my teaching friend and we drove an hour and a half from Devon. The reputation of the course is sufficient to attract golfers from far and wide, and understandably so.
Our major disappointment was the weather. It did not rain and there was no fog, but the cloudy skies restricted the true extent of the possible views. Otherwise, the clubhouse staff were welcoming, the pro very helpful and relaxed and other players happy to add some friendly advice and much needed guidance.
The course will never win plaudits for the quality of its fairways and greens but that is not the reason visitors come to play. For £20 each we thoroughly enjoyed a round of golf like no other we have played. Short par 4’s that hid their dangers well. I cannot remember a bunker on the 18 holes, but slopes, blind shots and old quarry workings more than made up for this.
I think a low score influenced my thinking but I am keen to return to the hilly, cow affected, walker infested golf course as soon as possible. Highly recommended.

A challenging and unique but interesting and fun course to play with beautiful scenery.
The public who walk round this area are friendly, polite and respectful of the golfers.
Just don’t hit over hit #5 which is an up and down into a bowl.
Fairways and greens are looked after well considering it’s location.

For anyone that actually wants to play a sane round of golf avoid at absolute all costs. The whole course feels like you are playing in an unkept field filled with pedestrians crossing your path. The uneasy and ridiculous location of the holes makes getting round the course feel like completing gold Duke of Edinburgh with Honours.
Never play here it’s a mess, a right pain(…swick)!!!

This is a challenging but fun golf course. There are a number of hills to climb and don't be misled by the short yardage of the course. Unlike some courses we visit each hole at Painswich has its own character and personality. We particularly liked the sixth which is the SI 1 par 3 which has tremedous view and although we all got our pars it was more by luck than judgement to some extent. We also love the fifteenth which is another downhill par 3 but seemed to play a little longer than we all expected. The course was in reasonable condition, but perfectly playable our only criticism would be the state of the greens which were in a little need of loving care. However, given the world wide problems we are encountering that comment seems a little disengenuous!! We played the Old Course at St Pierre the following day and we all decided that if we were to visit the area again it would be Painswick we would prefer to play again.
Due to the virus there was no food on so cannot comment on this aspect but all members and staff that we met made us feel very welcome.

We are hiking north to south, and this spot is located just before one arrives in Painswick. We had lunch (smoked mackerel fish cakes for me and nachos with Texas beed brisket for my daughter) and cider. It was delicious and fresh and the proprietors were very welcoming despite our disheveled state on this hot day. Highly recommended.

Just had my second visit, this time it was fathers day, and the place was buzzing, yet still the owners had time to personally greet us all .This place has a great food which they seem genuinely proud of, and proud of they should be!!. Well done, all my party will be returning for sure.
