I didn't want to write this, but... having just seen previous reviews, and pictures from our family of the lights at Wakehurst, I feel obligated to confirm the poor reviews of Westonbirt. I was very disappointed with the lights and general experience at Westonbirt; as previously mentioned by others, far too crowded - bizarrely, we were let in early, only to be mixed with hundreds of others, which made obligatory social distancing impossible. The lighting itself was nothing special and, although I wasn't sure quite what to expect, it was all pretty underwhelming. Granddaughter didn't enjoy it and, sadly, nor did we. It seems a real shame to have to write this, as a lot of people must have gone to a lot of trouble to do the work in these troubled times, but I'm afraid to say it really wasn't a nice experience. Let's hope 2021 will be better.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We're sad to hear you found it disappointing. We've had some great feedback from the installations this year and we're looking forward to see how it'll develop next year. All the best

Absolutely awful experience. Queuing from start to end, with no room to walk at your own pace. Far too many people (felt dangerous in times of Covid and too risky to take off our masks as no opportunity to distance what-so-ever). We would never have attended if we were aware how crowded it would be. Our family of 4 became separated due to the crowds and we couldn’t re-group for some time as it was so busy! The lights were an inadequate display of limited variety. We have attended other light displays in previous years and always been impressed, but even my children were underwhelmed. My daughter (aged 8) was mortified to see Santa (a green wizard-like character completely out of character in some awful sketch on stage. I had to reassure her it was the real Santa and explain the history of the green costume quickly, but she was clearly questioning the reality! My son (aged 13) commented on how poor the lights were and both said the bizarre stage sketches were aimed at pre-schoolers and honestly... quite awful! I would expect a much more impressive light display (see Sudely or Blenheim) and space to walk and pause without jostling and crowds. I really do not overestimate this - people actually walking into us repeatedly (at a time of Covid). We were so disappointed that this was how we spent our Children’s Christmas treat outing.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We're sad to hear you found it disappointing. We've had some great feedback from the installations this year and we're looking forward to see how it'll develop next year. Our team had been working hard over the past months to put in additional measures to ensure that the trail was COVID-secure. As with all feedback we are considering it closely with a view to making improvements for the future. All the best

This was not at all enchanting. We got to the end dissapointed feeling like the event hadnt really got started and bemused with the rediculous pantomime theme ,silly characters and lack of imagination .It didnt work at all for us .It so couldve been a lovely christmas event given the beautifull ,natural setting at Westonbirt .May i suggest that instead in future organisers try to follow better examples like the Sudeley Castle illuminated event wich we found to be excellent. Also dont allow later bookings to be called inside the entrance along with earlier admittances especially during Covid because it created a backlog further along the trail .There was no signage or explanation that viewing areas had been created ,instead where the backlog congregated they got yelled at to move on wich didnt do anything but make people feel uncomfortable and on edge .This shouldnt have happened if the ticket times system had been kept to by staff admitting people to the event. We went at 7.45pm. The theme was cringing ,cheesy, bad taste panto. No enchantment at all. Forget the very odd ,nonsense goblin bloke who was going bizarely round in circles in the wood behaving rather peculiarly .Instead apply magical, well done illuminations and music that enchances the natural environment of Westobirt instead of the rediculous, gnome cheese and bad taste amatuer panto theme. It was a waste of money and very dissapointing to say the least.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review, we're sorry to hear you were disappointed and feel our Christmas offering is too expensive, compared to other local offers we are among the least expensive Christmas events. The money made from Enchanted Christmas is invested into a number of areas. This includes the maintenance of footpaths, play trails, looking after and expanding the Arboretum and carrying out our important tree conservation work. The support Enchanted Christmas provides us with is absolutely vital to Westonbirt and we’re keen to thank all our visitors for their support.

We last visited the Enchanted Christmas at Westonbirt about 25 years ago (memorable because there was a problem with the generators and about three time slots were lumped into one) This visit was nowhere near that busy, but still busier than I was comfortable with in these Covid times, especially at the ticket checking booths. I found the trail rather underwhelming and short, but it was nice to be doing something Christmassy. Heavy rain all the time we were there didn't add to the experience. In my opinion more should have been done with lighting up the magnificent trees and less on the holograms (although the laser lighting was very good). Glad we went, but in no hurry at all to repeat the experience. Perhaps I needed to borrow a young child!
