Lovely place for a walk with the dogs.
We arranged to meet some family members who live locally for a get together whilst we were on holiday , 8 adults, 1 baby and 4 dogs, it was easy to find and plenty of car park spaces. We had a lovely walk around the Arboretum, there were plenty of benches and dog bins on route. After our walk we ordered lunch from the cafe, service was very slow and we were told they had ran out of jacket potatoes (really?), the food was on the expensive side, it was ok but I think taking a picnic would've been a better option. The toilets were clean and the shop was well stocked. Overall a lovely place for a family get together and if I'm holidaying in the area again I would definitely pay a return visit.
Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are pleased you found your visit enjoyable and interesting - we hope to welcome you again soon. Thank you for your feedback on your experience in restaurant, we will pass this onto them.

    Another Fantastic Visit….
Visited for a third time back in May for my birthday treat! Can never get tired of this place,I could spend all day here! Weather was excellent aswell which is a added bonus. Got some great photos to add to my collection. Will be visiting again sometime soon! Special thanks to all the staff and volunteers for your hard work… 🤓

    Beautiful as ever
As ever a lovely relaxing visit. Full marks for having a changing places toilet. Spoilt slightly by miserable staff at The Pantry who took ages to make one tea one latte and only made half a cup of tea to add insult. Luckily the coffee and cake stand by the main entrance was polar opposite with friendly welcoming ladies serving! Still highly recommended.
Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are glad you enjoyed a relaxing visit. In regard to your feedback from the pantry, we have the following response from Fosters who run the onsite restaurant and pantry- We thank-you for your feedback regarding your recent visit to the Panty at Westonbirt Arboretum. I was disappointed to read that our service team in the Pantry did not provide the great service that we strive to deliver in Westonbirt and that the quality of your drinks were not up to our usual high standard. Please be assured that I have discussed your feedback with the team to ensure this was an isolated occasion and the team will continue to deliver the excellent service everyone deserves.

A peaceful day amongst magnificent trees
Husbeast & I went 9 August 23. Despite being the school holidays & a packed car-park, we were able to wander around without being bothered by anyone, & it was very peaceful & found lots of little trails off the main path. We also found some wonderful wood carvings placed around. The only downside was the queue for the ice-cream shop. The food areas were busy but seemed to move fairly quickly. We had taken our own lunch. There's also a traditional wood working workshop which was fascinating to watch
Thank you for taking the time to write such a positive review. We are glad you enjoyed your visit and found lots of peaceful quiet areas - which as you discovered is always possible even during a busy time. We hope to welcome you again in the future!

    Amazing place
This is the most amazing place to go to. There are over 2500 trees of all shapes colours and sizes. The paths are wide and access is good for the disabled. There are many different routes you can take and each one has something different to offer. It gives you a really good feeling being amongst such wonderful trees and meadows of wild flowers. There is a lovely cafe/restaurant with reasonably priced refreshments and friendly staff. The treetop walk is a must and us a real fun place for kiddies. Everyone we passed acknowledged us any we had a few chats with dog walkers. It us is not expensive in my view and I would happily go there again, money well spent.
Thank you for your positive review, we are glad you enjoyed your visit! Of course we are biased but we have to agree that it is such a special place to be out in nature and surrounded by wonderful trees! We look forward to welcoming you again soon.

    Beautiful grounds
Visiting the Cotswolds on the hottest week of the year therefore seeking sheltered places to walk with the dog. Beautiful grounds with lots of shady areas, perfect for the weather conditions. Unfortunately dogs aren’t allowed in the area where the cafes are so you are restricted to a coffee van for any drinks or snacks with limited seating and not much in the shade. Would like to visit again when the weather isn’t as hot to enjoy more of the gardens.
Thank you for taking the time to write a positive review. We are glad you enjoyed your visit and look forward to welcoming you again - for future reference, you are welcome to bring your dog into the areas around the cafe and pantry. Although dogs are not permitted inside the restaurant, there are usually lots of our fourlegged friends enjoying the shading on the outside areas.

    Lovely place
We had a lovely day and had the use of the scooter for one of our party. How to handle it was explained with very clear instructions and they check you can manage it before setting off. Wasn’t too busy and not a lot of Autumn colour which seems later to arrive this year, still very nice to see and wander around. Paths were all clear and the arboretum well kept and clear of rubbish. We walked along both sides . Two of us are members so we will be back to hopefully see Acer Glade in full colour ! Nice to see trails to follow. Have followed most throughout the year and the grandchildren love Gruffalo wood . The food is expensive so we usually bring something with us if staying for a long walk !
Thank you for taking the time to write such a positive review. We are glad you enjoyed your visit and the scooter was helpful. We hope to welcome you again in the future!

    Beautiful for over priced
Beautiful place but unfortunately shocking price for a family. 2 adults and a 5 year old cost us £36 entrance fee!! Then the cost of drinks and food inside is very high. All in all we probably spent £60 . Not as many play areas for children. The actual play area is tiny and part of it is damaged. I would have liked to have seen more things for children there and play areas throughout. As an adult , I appreciated the beauty of the place. But for the cost as a family, I wouldn't return. You can spend the same amount on a zoo or farm park etc.
Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry you were disappointed. In order to continue to care for the many rare and remarkable trees we have at the arboretum we do charge a fee for entry. All the money goes back into caring for the nation's tree and forests. We believe that we offer excellent value for money by providing a host of activities and features onsite, all free after admission. We are sorry you didn’t find all our children’s activities as we actually have three play areas around the arboretum; Exploratree near the restaurant, the play area near the Tree Management Centre in the Old Arboretum and Tipi Town in Silk Wood. We also encourage children to have the freedom to climb trees, and find natural dens amongst the trees, not to mention finding our tree forts, tyre tunnels, bird viewing area and the Gruffalo Sculptures. There is also the STIHL Treetop Walkway, family activities in the holidays and other seasonal trails; this autumn, we have a fabulous family activity trail for children about Birtha a woodland spirit. We hope you will return, pick up a children’s map and have fun exploring our children’s activities and trails.

Old Arboretum: DOG FREE - hooray!
Due to severe allergic asthma we choose to avoid visiting places where we may risk having bounding dogs running & jumping up on us, with irresponsible owners not controlling their dogs shouting out from the distance: ‘don’t worry the dog is friendly,’ with no awareness of the scary health consequences for people who are severely allergic to dogs. Of course guide dogs are rightly allowed in the old Arboretum, they are always impeccably behaved. We are most grateful to Westonbirt Arboretum for being inclusive and making it possible for people with disabilities and young children to safely enjoy the beautiful old Arboretum in peace. It is also right that that dogs are not allowed inside the cafe. Easy parking and booking. Prices also inclusive of people with disabilities these days, which they sadly weren’t in the past. Thank you so much Westonbirt Arboretum for a wonderful afternoon, made possible for us due to the changes you have made.
Thank you for taking the time to write such a positive review. We are glad you enjoyed your visit and were able to come away feeling relaxed. We hope to see you here again soon!

It will be lovely here at the end of October/beginning of November
We had a very good walk round here yesterday even though the colours hadn’t really changed yet. The dog- free area was particularly calm and enjoyable. Unfortunately, the other side was spoilt by the large number of uncontrolled dogs chasing around, with owners totally unaware of what their dogs were doing in some cases. We subsequently had to watch where we were walking to avoid the dogs’ mess. It’s a shame the fairly high entrance cost doesn’t pay for a dog warden to keep an eye on things. Well done to the responsible dog owners who kept their dogs either on a lead or close by.
Hello, we are sorry to hear that you were unhappy with your visit to Silk Wood. We are currently looking at ways to engage with dog owners about dog behaviour at Westonbirt. Thank you for your feedback and we are glad to hear you enjoyed the Old Arboretum.

Beautiful woods and gardens. Took the guided tour which was free done by volunteers which gave a good background and explanation of the history and the way the arboretum came about and then walked around on our own.

Had a hot lunch at the cafe which was excellent value. Fish and chips and the pie were both delicious. If you didn’t want to eat at the cafe there were lots of benches dotted around the property that you could sit down and eat a picnic.

Definitely recommend for a good day out. You could easily spend 3-4 hours or more here if you enjoy walking.

A fantastic arboretum with plenty of parking. Loads of walking trails with cafes and restaurants dotted around. On the day we visited there were also many mobile catering vans providing a variety of cuisines.

The wooden treetop walkway through the trees goes on for long (it is actually 300 metres long). There are Gruffalo sculptures to explore on scooters or bikes. it is an excellent place to spend an entire day with the kids.

There is an entrance fee but worth every penny. What a place, so many paths to explore with plenty of seating spread around. It is beautifully kept with an amazing variety of trees with explanations of type of tree and origin. There are toilets, a shop and cafes etc.... but I must admit they are rather expensive. Would definitely recommend.

We visited over the weekend, where the price increases (just a warning). The site is very beautiful and the trees present an amazing canopy of foliage and colours. We had a good long stroll and walk around and thoroughly enjoyed it.

The place is good for walking with the dog but £16.00 is quite an expensive trip for an hour or so. Not sure if having a dog is an extra charge or paying by card is?

Thank you for your comment. Our admission rates fluctuate seasonally. £16 is the current adult weekend and bank holiday rate, £12 for midweek. There is no extra charge for dogs or credit card payments.

Interesting trees from South America in particular, used mainly by families as a place to walk ,main downside is price of entry
£ 16 for adult ,not sure I grasp sense of this if one wanted to educate people in general
Bird song was amazing reflecting protected area although I suspect they shoot crows/pigeons
It is a very impressive arboretum- it would be hard to beat

We really enjoyed our first visit to the arboretum, however next time we’ll definitely go midweek! Firstly be aware the price goes up at the weekend - when you look at the Google banner entry it shows £12 for an adult and it’s not clear until you click through that it’s £16 at the weekend. Not a major issue but just a bit surprised when we arrived. Our visit unfortunately also clashed with the ‘ARB’ trade show so the tranquility of the arboretum was shattered completely by the noise emanating from the central area - a constant thrum from generators interspersed with the noise of heavy woodcutting machinery! (Tbh the admission price should have been reduced to compensate!) So do check there isn’t a show like this on when you plan your visit! Those negatives aside it really is a magnificent arboretum - very well laid out with accessible pathways throughout and you’re allowed to wander off the paths to get right in amongst the trees. The colours and scents you encounter on the way are amazing! Approximately a third of the arboretum is also dog free! (such a rarity these days) and consequently very quiet (other than the aforementioned generators of course!), we saw very few people in this area and yet it displays some of the finest specimens. (There was one couple with a dog who chose to ignore the large ‘No Dogs’ signs but as they say…every village has one!) The larger west side of the arboretum was busy, as you’d expect, but as long as you manage to avoid being tripped up or knocked over by a horde of unleashed hounds, it was still a pleasant walk with some real highlights along the way including the 2000 year old coppiced lime. A final word for the staff who were all excellent throughout our visit, from the ladies that greeted us and provided maps and useful advice, to the staff in the Kitchen cafe. So on the whole, well done Westonbirt. It would have been 5 stars, but the noisy ARB tradeshow was a bit of a spoiler for us. We’ll be back, but definitely midweek.

The arboretum itself is absolutely stunning and we thoroughly enjoyed exploring Silk Wood with our two dogs. The dogs are allowed to be off lead ( unlike Batsford arboretum) which was an added bonus. We spent 2.5 hours exploring the wood and did not come near to walking all the paths… The raised walkway through the tree canopy is spectacular.
I have deducted one star because of our poor experience with the cafe ( not the main restaurant) which was very expensive ( £19 for two coffees and 3 flapjack style cakes!!) . The coffee ‘hut’ by the main entrance offered slightly better value . Bring a picnic!!
As members of Batsford Arboretum our entrance to Westonbirt was ‘free’ - I would definitely recommend taking out an annual membership to anyone who intends to visit these two arboretums at least 3 times a year.

In spite of the disappointing weather our large party of almost 90 arrived very late for lunch at 2.30pm. Very many thanks to the restaurant staff worked so hard to ensure we had a meal. Mine was a delicious smoked salmon plate. Also thanks to the helpful young man who rescued me with a disability scooter to enable me to return to the entrance. Unfortunately we didn't have much time to appreciate the wonderful trees, but we have visited before and will be returning.

We have been members for years but this last trip today was very disappointing. The play park has been removed and will not be replaced for a year! My sister bought ice cream for her kids. On our last visit she had been told at the kiosk that kids ice creams were available for a reduced price. So she ordered 3 kids ice creams and the young girl gave 3 tiny ice creams and then charged full price. When queried she said kids ice creams were “not official” so she had to pay full price (approx £14) for 3 ice cream half the size of that given to other customers. The Gruffalo statue has been replaced and, while it looks nice, is no longer suitable for climbing on. I think it was installed a day or two ago and the ears are already wobbly.

Thank you for taking time to write a review. Unfortunately, the main fixed structure in Exploratree came to the end of its life quicker than we had planned for due to natural wear and tear. For the health and safety of the children coming to the Westonbirt, we felt it best to replace it with fun, outdoor games. Our on-site catering is run by a third party, Fosters Events so we have passed your comments regarding the ice creams onto them.
