I visited the Royal Marines museum whilst my wife was enjoying her blacksmith experience. I was not sure what to expect. Wow. It was brilliant. I spent over two hours fascinated by the history of the Royal marines and gob-smacked by the presentation on commando training. Crikey but I want these guys on my side! Outside there are a number... If you want to see a very nice museum about the Royal Marines. Then this is the place to go to. It is just packed with things to see about the Corp since it started out as the Duke of York and Albany Maritime Regiment. Its staff is both friendly and very knowledgeable about this fine body of fighting men.... More

The museum is housed in the grounds of Eastney Barracks and tells the story of the Royal Marines since their inception in 1664 to the present day. The impressive statue of a marine standing on a mound marks the entrance gate to the car park (£2 for 3 hours). Before you reach the main building, there are two wooden benches,... More

The fact this wonderful museum has only a paltry 300 odd reviews is absolute proof ( if were needed ) of the abysmal amount of visitors that visit it and that moving to the Historic Dockyard is the very best thing to have happened to it in its long illustrious history. Finally situated next to the other historical and brilliant... More

I so made sure we went here.. For certain reasons. It was brilliant even the entrance I would have been happy to see with the statue of the Royal marine looking out to see with his flag. Very helpful staff and lovely gift shop . The self tour I really thought was well done .. Would go back for sure... More

The Museum is the old Officers Mess of RM Eastney Barracks. It tells the story of the Royal Marines from 1664 to present. There are displays of uniforms, badges and displays of different eras. The Museum shop has a range of memorabilia and books. Worth a visit.

It is always a pleasure to visit this museum . The building alone is spectacular and the surroundings are lovely , I've been visiting for more years than I care to admit , but it is always a great day out , this is a museum that has moved with the times and the interactive elements are fun and informative... Took my 2 sons, 10 and 13 years old, to look round the museum. The building and surrounding area look stunning and the history of the RM was well laid out from its beginnings up to modern times. My only negative would was the extremely small double cabinet covering Northern Ireland, the lack of special forces displays and small Iraq/Afghanistan... More

Steeped in the history of the Royal Marines this museum is at the far end of Southsea away from Portsmouth. I would set aside over three hours to get a reasonable tour around. It was a very quiet day with only a handful of people visiting. There are some positions that allow you to get hands on equipment. The SA80... More
