About
Wightlink is the leading cross-Solent ferry operator carrying almost five million holidaymakers and Islanders to the Isle of Wight every year. We provide a vehicle and foot passenger ferry service from Portsmouth, one of Britain’s most vibrant port cities with excellent travel connections, to Fishbourne, conveniently located for anyone visiting the Isle of Wight. Portsmouth to Fishbourne is our most popular route. Facilities in both ports include a customer building serving hot and cold food and drinks, rapid charging points (50kwh) for electric vehicles, two-tier boarding for efficient loading and unloading of vehicles, ticket office, toilets and baby-changing facilities. Car parking and bicycle racks are also available. The crossing takes 45 minutes, using several of our vessels to serve the route, including our new hybrid energy powered flagship, Victoria of Wight.

    Excellent customer services
    Sharing our compliment for a call handler who provided us with excellent customer service. His name is Connor and he went above and beyond to help us amend our return journey time to accommodate an appointment that came through when we were away on the mainland. He was kind and courteous and nothing was too much trouble and rang us back as promised when a cancellation freed up an earlier ferry to get us home in time for the appointment.

    Excellent accessibility support
    Travelled on the Lymington to Yarmouth route and back again this week. Experience was very positive. The team on both journeys were very friendly, supportive, and helpful. We required easy access to the lifts which was provided with the team even taking into account which side of the car extra space was needed. Much appreciated and we will make this trip again.

    Great staff, fumes from new boat ruined crossing
    Very friendly staff and on time ferry crossing. My frustration was getting on the new boat and sitting outside on the decks which are all at the rear and enjoying the lovely early morning sunshine only to be hit by the exhaust from the ferry to the point I had to go inside. Such a poor design if you want to sit outside and enjoy the wether all you can smell is fumes. Epic design fail. Would recommended travelling on older boats if you want to sit outside

    Caring staff
    When we left the ferry at Lymington, another lady had asked for a buggy to take her to the carpark. The attendant asked if we would like to join her for which we were most grateful, after a very long day, I was sitting on a bench reflecting on a stressful day visiting my sick brother, waiting for my husband who had gone to the Gents, when a member of staff asked if I needed a drink of water, and was I ok. It took a lot of persuasion to convince him I was alright. What caring staff.

    Smooth crossing
    We were 20 minutes delayed boarding our ferry to the Isle of Wight in our van, but once boarded everything ran smoothly. On the way back we arrived earlier than our ferry tine and they let us on the earlier one. The food wasn’t that great on the ferry but everyone was friendly and polite. We would sail with Wightlink again. The prices were normal having taken our van before and the process to book online easy and we had to amend our booking, again an easy process.

    Great Trips
    We had great return trips, Portsmouth to Fishbourne, very organised, we paid for priority and we’re first on and off. Both trips on time and arrived early, time for a coffee and a relax before we arrived. Our doggie loved the ride too.

    A good experience
    Slick operation. I had my ticket ready to scan on my phone but it wasn't needed. There's a number plate recognition camera on the gate and as the computer when pip they guy in the box directed me to the correct number lane to load the correct ferry. The ferry itself is comfortable to ride. The journey isn't far and exiting the ferry was just as easy as getting on. During the crossing we had a huge container ship pull across in front of the ferry, it tested how quickly the ferry could slow down.

    Brilliant Service
    We sailed from Lymington to Yarmouth return. Very clear instructions, polite staff and clean boats. Cheerful, helpful young man in the waiting area booth on return at Yarmouth deserves a mention It is a little expensive for a 40 minute sail - but its worth it to take the car to enjoy the delights of the I of W. Highly recommended.

    Exemplary Customer Service
    Booked a holiday to Isle of Wight. Tour operator was impossible to get an answer to on their chat system as they dont have humans to talk to.So having lost will to live with them I called Isle of Wight .ferries direct. Well..........the phone was answered within 1 ring a very helpful member of staff (a human not bot) spoke to me sorted my problem out and booked my ferry and sent me a confirmation LITERALLY all within 2 minutes. In an age where customer service seems to be disappearing I commend this company for actually having a great efficient customer service. Please keep it up!!

    Expensive car ferry
    The ferry is reputed to be one of the most expensive car ferries for the distance in the world - and it lives up to that reputation. The ships are clean and well-run. There was a delay on our inbound service which was not handled brilliantly. If it were not for the price, this would be good

Our vehicle prices are determined by the date, time, duration of your stay and your vehicle size and are reflective of the cost of running our service. The sooner you book and the more flexible you can be on sailing times, the less you are likely to pay. Our vehicle prices may increase or decrease in line with demand but generally rise the closer the sailing.

Staff were a bit grumpy and the Wight Coffee was extremely sad and flavourless. The ship was in pretty poor condition and not very clean. Price was lower than the competition and did leave on time.

Our journey (on an old but comfortable & efficient ferry) from Southampton to East Cowes cost £12 whereas the similar length trip from Ryde to Portsmouth cost twice as much on a very 'industrial' ferry.

We arrived a bit early for our ferry but were lucky & got put on an earlier one.
Its a quick crossing from Portsmouth to IoW.
Expensive for drinks on board.
Nice views as you cross the Solent.

The prices within our Retail outlets are in line with the travel industry however, your feedback is appreciated. Clean and comfy ship.

Crossings are extortionately expensive which is a shame as it is a clear deterrent to visiting the Isle of Wight and supporting tourism there.

The food prices on the ferry are disgraceful. £5 for a water and pain au chocolate. Nothing for passengers with gluten intolerances.

Hello NatLane, Thank you for your review. I am pleased to hear that you found the ship to be clean and comfortable when travelling with us. However, I am sorry you find the fare prices too high. We use Flexi-Pricing, which means that prices for a particular crossing may increase in line with demand for that crossing. Our fares also reflect the cost of running our service (which is not subsided). The sooner you book, the more likely you are to pay a lower fare and fares will generally get higher the closer you get to the sailing date, particularly during busier times. Our retail prices are in line with the travel industry but your feedback has been noted. We are currently trialling Gluten Free products on all routes after having success with these on our Lymington - Yarmouth route. We also offer Mr Filberts products, at our retail outlets which are all Gluten Free. We appreciate you sharing your review as we are always looking for ways we can improve.

Travelled from Portsmouth to Wooton Creek and back. Bothe ferries were on time and the journey was good and we had seats with a table. One ship has announcements that were hard to her due to poor speakers.

Always a pleasure to travel with Wightlink as the staff are so friendly and helpful. Had a coffee and bacon roll on the way to Portsmouth - delicious and served with a smile and bit of a chat. On the return home the staff in the Camber cafe were equally welcoming and Donna in particular was lovely. They even tried to find me a phone charger as my phone was about to die and I needed it to show my boarding pass. Can’t thank you folks enough.

Disgusting service, they cancelled my 5pm ferry from Lymington and told will be on next available however was told all ferries 60min delay. Asked to be transferred to 6pm from Portsmouth however refused as booked with multi link pass. Not my fault they cancelled ferry.

Traveled to Porstmouth at 7-00 in the morning expected to return same day at 2-00pm. Had an urgent meassage from home and had to return early. The Portsmouth attendant could not have been more helpful and when I explained why I had to return urgently he got me on the next ferry. Cannot thank him enough.

The service is fine but the cost! Be prepared to pay through the nose to cross the most expensive stretch of water per mile in the world! It just cost me £155 return for me and a car - they're having a laugh - you can get the ferry to France for less.
