- JaneMistoffDorset, United Kingdom39 contributionsWonderful location for 'High Tea'We went to have a 'High Tea' experience which I had been given as a birthday gift. I booked online which was really easy. When I needed to change the day and time this again was very straightforward. I spoke to a member of the reception team who was very helpful. On the day we were greeted by a friendly member of staff who immediately explained our options regarding looking up the tower and going for 'Tea'. The lift had an attendant who was 'fun' and cheerful. When we arrived at the restaurant the two members of staff were again very welcoming. We had a table which was reserved by the main window. Tea arrived and was plentiful and everything nice and fresh. The view from the tower is spectacular and my husband and I agreed that we couldn't imagine a better location to be able to sit and enjoy this treat. The table by the window made it! I would certainly recommend this to anyone looking for a relaxing yet exhilarating 'High Tea'.Thank you for the lovely review and five-star recommendation! - Trek392280321211 contributionGlory to the Spinnaker Tower! The tower is astonishing, especially in height! I took the Abseil challenge and descended the 100m tower on a rope. The view was magnificent, you have the Gunwharf Quays, the town of Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight in sight. The view overlooking Portsmouth Harbour, Gosport, The Solent and The Isle of Wight were incredible. I completed the zip line in 8 minutes and I just also want to praise the staff who were friendly, helpful and professional. Well worth doing this activity if you ever get the chance. Our team members will be so pleased you had such a nice visit, we really appreciate your feedback about your abseil. - SteelyGeoff1Silloth, United Kingdom7 contributionsIt was a thoroughly enjoyable experience and I would recommend it to anybody. We have been before, but this time the visibility was so much better. Whilst I appreciate that the Spinnaker staff have no control whatsoever over the weather it does make for a much better experience when it’s good. My lady friend was terrified in the first place and the guy on reception made great fun of it and made her laugh which made the whole thing a lot easier. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience and I would recommend it to anybody.Thank you for your visit! We are really glad you came and enjoyed it so much. - Sightsee082206187091 contributionTotally amazing views!Every member of staff throughout the whole process was so lovely and encouraging. The staff at the top who saw me over the edge (so to speak) done a great job at trying to calm my nerves and the guys at the bottom were great at making sure I was OK when my feet were finally back firmly on the ground. The views were absolutely stunning! It scared the living daylights out of me but the sense of achievement that I done it is brilliant 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁Congratulations for competing the abseil! - TravelfromessexRomford, United Kingdom648 contributionsGreat experience and tremendous viewsWe started off in the cafe on the ground floor which was great with lovely views across the water. There's only one lift but there was only a few minutes queue and we were soon enjoying the knockout views. We clambered up the stairs and inspected the cafe floor - we'll have to come band and try the high tea and semi-open terrace even higher up. We found the staff friendly and engaging throughout and a look round the high quality gift shop completed our visit. Definitely one of the highlights of our Portsmouth break. Thanks for the five-star review! We visited on the day the lift had broken so we had to climb up the stairs instead. To be honest we actually enjoyed having a unique experience and were pleased we timed our visit well. The views from the top were amazing and each floor had something different to offer. The cafe was nice and the staff were really friendly too.Thank you for the five-star review and recommendation. Being fans of afternoon tea, me and my sister visited for high tea and it was really disappointing. The room was cold on entry, the crockery was already on the table (including fake flowers) which many food establishments no longer do due to covid risk. The food was not the quality you'd expect for £30 per person. The sandwiches were fine but the scones had clearly been frozen and just thawed before serving. They were extremely cold in the middle and cutting through them was difficult. Another table commented that their scones were still frozen in the middle too. The 'selection' of sweets were 4 macarons and 6 slices of cheesecake (which you had to eat with fingers as only supplied a knife). The cheesecakes were cheap quality and sickly so I only ate one of my 3. When I mentioned the lack of variety to the waiter he claimed they were restricted due to covid although I'm sure covid doesn't prevent the baking of cakes? I wouldn't recommend the tea experience at all and wouldn't currently recommend the viewing ticket based on the price purely because there's only one floor open which takes 5-10mins to walk around.

Thank you for your feedback. We are disappointed to hear of your experience. We have had to make some adjustments to our High Tea menu in recent weeks as our bakery supplier has reduced their product offer. We appreciate your feedback and are reviewing the current menu and looking at alternative elements.

Afternoon tea - pre-booked. This was a present from family for my husband and I. The experience of going up the tower was amazing. The views were spectacular! The service was however poor. They ask that you are there 15 minutes before but weren’t ready for us until 20 after our actual time and the weather was hot so 35 minutes waiting looking at the view although fantastic was hot and we were melting. We then sat at our table and waited another 10 minutes before being asked for our drinks order at the same time as giving us the drinks menu whilst still waiting on the food. When we got the food it was nice although too many cakes and not enough sandwiches/wraps (there were 2 finger sandwiches and 2 finger sized wraps each) and we had to ask for some water as our drinks didn’t arrive until we had we were on the cakes! We went to the sky garden where we cooled off before eating the cakes. I’d suggest anyone going on a warm day to take a fan and be prepared to wait. Asked to use the facilities on way out as upstairs was occupied and was told the disabled loo was for staff only and to go find the public one across the was by Burger King (I do have a walking stick) so to sum up go up for the view but skip afternoon tea as over priced.

Booked a table for 4 adults to celebrate my partners birthday. The Afternoon Tea experience looked lovely on the website but in truth was nothing like the experience promised. We arrived early as requested but due to Covid found large queues waiting to enter Gunwharf itself. Nothing mentioned on the email about seeking a member of staff to let you in via a separate entrance to avoid the large volumes of people waiting in the rain.
On arrival we were shown to our table where we were seated by one of two staff. The food soon arrived looking a wilted as if it had been stood around a long time. Extremely disappointed in the quality and quantity of food, very poor. Not once while sat eating were we approached by the staff and asked if everything was ok. We had booked for two bottles of Prosecco and had to ask for the second. In doing so we were told they had to consult the management down stairs as it was not on their paperwork. 15 minutes later 4 small bottles of fizz turned up with the excuse that they had run out of large bottles! We then ordered 2 bottles of lager, again by going to the service counter to be told yet again they would have to get them up from downstairs. This is supposed to be an established professional organisation!
During our whole visit we were not asked if we would like tea or coffee, even though the cups were on the table. For the money we paid for this experience I would expect much better service and quality. Made for a totally dismal afternoon tea. The two staff present were not exactly rushed off their feet and the tea room was not particularly busy. Just very poor customer service. Would not recommend this experience to anyone, friend or foe.
Please invest in some customer service training and make the whole experience more appetising.
In all, poor service, poor quality and lessons need to be learned.

Not good value at all, when booking was not made aware that top 2 decks were closed unless you spent more by booking a tea. Poor hygiene as only 1 sanitiser on main deck which was not easily seen and did not display a sign at all. I observed more than 50 people on the deck and not a single person saw or used the sanitiser. Then we were ushered out and told our photo was not available despite arriving at shop at 5.20. This was not the experience we had hoped for way too expensive and we did not feel Covid secure apart from using our own sanitiser, some adults removed masks. Why do we have to queue for 20 minutes when just 1 assistant checking us in when we had pre-cooked?

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, your feedback is important to us and we are disappointed that your experience did not live up to our usual high standards.
We have been unexpectedly busy recently and due to the necessary social distancing restricitons, queue times are occasionally longer than we'd like. We are working hard to improve this.
We do state on the Opening Times page of our website that our Sky Garden level is currently unavailable due to COVID-19 restrictions. Our middle level is a cafe, which is open for pre-booked High Tea experiences as usual.
There are hand sanitiser stations throughout the building, including at the entrance door, all ticket and till desks, lift waiting area and view decks - as well as signage advising guests of our 'social etiquette' guidelines. Our team do their best to remind all guests that masks are to be worn throughout the experience, unless the guest has a medical exemption, and to use the sanitiser provided and the vast majority of our guests are responsible and follow our guidelines. Our team also follow strict cleaning health and safety protocols and clean surfaces and touch points more frequently than ever.

Booked in advance online, a later afternoon slot meant the queues not too excessive. Lift numbers were being regulated into family groups, fair enough in the present circumstances. The partially open deck wasn’t open, so after a reasonable wait we were whisked up to the enclosed viewing deck. We were lucky in that both our aircraft carriers were in port, so a great sight for a military naval enthusiast like me. Tbf the views are also good and extensive over a wide area. There is a glass floor section where you can see the drop down to ground level which Susan in particular enjoyed. Twenty minutes is about enough, then a bit of a queue to get back down again. The Spinnaker Tower is definitely worth doing once, though not an attraction I would return too.

Hello and thanks for your feedback. We're really glad you enjoyed your experience and got the chance to see the aircraft carriers - they are impressive! The glass floor is always a big hit with kids (and many adults too!) so it's great that you enjoyed this.
We do hope you'll return once we are able to open up the 'open-air' Sky Garden again, the space adds something a little different to your visit.
Thanks again for your review!

I booked the High Tea as a nice ending to finish off our day in Portsmouth, the only available time slot was 4.30 so I gratefully took it. We were blessed with good weather and the views were amazing over the Solent. Unfortunately this was all ruined by a waitress who obviously doesn’t love her job and couldn’t smile, and felt the need to constantly tell us that they “closed in an hour”, the food was put down in front of us as soon as we sat down and to be fair it looked lovely…. Until you realise that looks can be deceiving. The sandwiches were cheese, tuna and red onion and something with pesto, they were going stale on one side and were really dry. The fruit scones were lovely although the cream was warm. The cakes we were told were red velvet cake, a lemon curd tart, a chocolate mousse slice ( only way to describe it ) a macaron and a fruit cheesecake… the red velvet was dry and was tasteless, I took one bite and left it, the chocolate mousse was so bitter it set my teeth on edge and again was left, the cheesecake was a whole different ball game, that was so sharp my eyes were watering with the acidity.
Looking around at some of the other guests who were leaving , we noticed that practically everyone had left the red velvet, the chocolate mousse and the cheesecake. We were very disappointed with the whole experience, we rushed our food so that we could enjoy the last 9 minutes on the viewing deck and decided to take the stairs as it would be quicker, having gone through the door we were greeted with overflowing trolleys of all the High Teas from the day and realised that there isn’t a kitchen , and that our food had probably sat out the back in the open most of the day, we were then told we couldn’t use the stairs as they were out of order ( thank god there wasn’t a fire lol ) . We made it to the viewing deck for the last 5 mins of opening and managed to get a couple of selfies and pictures before being ushered away.
I have to say when we read the description of the High Tea it sounded lovely, and for the experience it promised I was more than happy to pay the £70, unfortunately this didn’t deliver and neither of us would recommend having this here… save your money, get a normal ticket for the viewing deck and then go somewhere better for afternoon tea which is what we will do when we go back to Portsmouth.

We are disappointed to read that your High Tea experience did not meet your expectations.
Please be assured that our High Teas are prepared in our cafe kitchen on the ground floor and are brought up to The Clouds in the lift just prior to each sitting. At the time of your visit, we were not using the stair well for guests (although perfectly operational in the case of emergencies) , so the area you came across was closed to the public and temporarily used as storage for crockery waiting to be taken back down in the lift, once there was capacity to do so. Following the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions, we have now been able to open our Sky Garden again and in turn the stair well to guests. 'Out of order' were not the right words for our team member to have used on this occasion and we apologise for any confusion caused.
I'm sorry to read that the cakes and sweet treats were not to your taste - we endeavour to provide a selection that appeals to all tastes and we have received feedback from guests that love the red velvet cake.
It is disappointing to read that you felt rushed. Our High Tea sittings last for one hour but guests can visit the main view deck prior to their sitting, and our 4.30pm guest are encouraged to do so. We are also now staying open until 6pm to allow longer for guests to enjoy the view deck.

This isn't a cheap excursion (especially for a family) but I would still recommend. However, I'd suggest as a family outing you might want to spend your money elsewhere (although the kids that were in the tower seemed to be loving the glass floor). In reality I think the average family would be hard pressed to spend more than 30 minutes here.
Fab views of old Portsmouth, especially the dockyard. We live locally so from our perspective it was amazing to see our home town from this vantage point (not sure how much a visitor from outside Portsmouth, who doesn't have an interest in military history, might get from the experience versus the cost). Unfortunately, there is no seating on either deck and no cafe (the cafe is on the ground floor and open to the general public). We had a clear day so really got to experience the fabulous panorama.
You can opt to pre-book for afternoon tea which looked amazing - very nicely laid out restaurant, which I'd imagine would be a real treat.
I don't like heights but had no problem with the ride up in the lift or walking around the viewing platforms. There is a WC on the lower of the 2 viewing platforms. Please note that there are a number of stairs between the two public viewing platforms.
All the staff were friendly.

If compared to BA i360 in neighbouring Brighton ( which in my opinion is indeed an experience ) this tower is just a tower. You pay around 30 pounds for one adult and two kids, you climb, you look around, you go down and you may reenter until dawn. But you don't really feel like you want to. And, yes, an ugly ink stamp on your hand :) But the views are spectacular.

Hi Pavel, thank you for your review, we're glad that you enjoyed our spectacular views.
Yes, we are different structurally to the i360 and are officially a Tower. We may be biased but we think our viewing experience is really quite special! You can watch the comings and goings of the Harbour, see different weather patterns throughout the day and even catch the spectacular sight of the Aircraft Carriers in the Dockyard. We use stamps to reduce unnecessary waste that a wristband or paper ticket would produce, but thank you for you feedback!

My best friend and our husbands had been waiting for this experience for quite a few months and were really hoping for a wonderful time. (High tea £35 per person) which included entrance, high tea and guide book (they had run out of guide books!!!) the high tea was a huge disappointment, the sandwiches were very mediocre and the scones even worse (very dry) my friend asked if they had plain scones as they didn't like sultana ones, the waitress said she would get some, after 15 mins we asked again and were told they didn't have any! We also had to keep asking for drinks that we had ordered previously. The service was poor and it was explained to us that one of the waitresses was new. I would not recommend paying £35 for afternoon tea, just visit the tower and eat elsewhere. The only positive was it was a beautiful sunny day and the views were lovely.

I had been waiting for the perfect weather day to happen and Sunday 30th May 2021 was that day !! to enjoy the Spinnaker Tower at it's absolute best.
You cannot fail to see the Spinnaker Tower from whatever direction you enter Portsmouth.
On arrival the Staff were friendly and guided you through the entrance process before taking the lift to the observation deck, due to Covid-19 we couldn't access the higher levels unless you were booked in for tea at the Clouds Restaurant which we were not.
When you arrive in the lift to the observation deck it just takes your breath away , The South View gives you a wonderful vista out over Portsmouth Harbour and beyond to The Isle Of Wight, to The West side the naval side of Portsmouth /Harbour towards Gosport and Southampton, The East side towards Portsmouth Beach and beyond to Hayling Island and Emsworth. words can't describe how good the views are you have to see it for yourself. Knowing the weather was going to be excellent made me finally decide to come to Portsmouth and tick it off my bucket list. The gift shop has some interesting gifts and the guide book is very good and informative. I believe the Spinnaker Tower does "SUNSET VISITS" in the Summer months but you would need to check this out with them first.

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this wonderful review. We're glad you were able to tick a visit off your bucket list, Portsmouth is a great city!
We advise anyone planning to visit to check out our website before coming as we will be updating it with summer events and plans soon. Sunset is a great time to come - during the winter, this can often be experienced right at the end of the day during normal operating hours, but we do sometimes run evening events during the rest of the year where this can be enjoyed.

How lunch time would a visit need ?
Written 7 September 2021
Basically it’s just looking out and enjoying the view. You could see it all in 10 minutes. To take it all in, I’d recommend 45 to an hour.

Written 9 January 2021
Yes you can just visit to take in the view. You have to buy a ticket. I expect that the prices are on the web site.
