Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A great cinema in the Historic Dockyard in Portsmouth. They have a great range of films from old classics to the latest releases.

Really comfie seats (not your recliners like Vue) but a really big screen. Also has a bar which had run out of a few items Gin !!!!

This was our first visit to No.6. The screen is huge, and slightly wraparound, so it's probably better for big blockbusters than the intimate chamber piece we'd come for. The volunteers are helpful. Unfortunately, there was a lot of crisp eating in the auditorium near us, which was distracting. People had clearly brought large 'sharing bags' of crisps in. It's a pity thar people can't watch a 90min film without constantly eating, even at an independent 'art house' venue.

I have been to No.6 Cinema numerous times! Always a wonderful programme with a wide variety of indie and mainstream films, I have been able to see everything I wanted to here. The volunteers are all absolutely lovely, so dedicated, and clearly love what they do - thank you so much for providing such a gorgeous venue to enjoy film!

No.6 is more than just a cinema - it is a community of film lovers. The bar is such great value, the ticket prices are the lowest in Portsmouth, and the venue is nicely decorated. It feels very welcoming. The auditorium is stunning! It is a HUGE screen and the boathouse is so wonderfully atmospheric! Situated within the dockyard where they filmed parts of Les Miserables too - what a wonderful venue!

If you are looking for a great night out in Portsmouth - No.6 has it all! They often hold special screenings with cocktails or talks too - so do keep an eye out for those! They have matinees as well where I've been offered a free coffee/tea and biscuits!

The staff are really friendly and inviting at this independent cinema. It's pretty cool to get inside the Historic Dockyard after it has shut for the day. Even the security guards who do the bag checks are really friendly! There is a small bar area and they have even made the effort to include vegan snacks. Only improvement here would be to add some more 'normal' soft drinks. The screen itself is huge, although because of this it does mean that the seats are quite close to the screen. Because it is unallocated seating, it is a good idea to get in early. They show a range of films, from new releases to old classics and it is always worth checking out what is currently showing.

My Meetup Group is so pleased this independent cinema is back and we have visited twice in the last couple of months. I was happy to finally see a film that I had missed at the mainstream cinema, and it was nice to see No6 open again. Credit to the volunteers, easy booking system online. Can't wait to go again.

Some staff some, of whom are volunteers, can spoil the events. Some behave rather like over zealous school dinner ladies, shoving visitors around. I had the temerity to turn up with two complementary tickets and was asked if I was lying about how I had them and then accused fraud and deception. The ensuing discussions resulted in us being late for the start of the film, which kind of defeated the point of the evening.

Large curved screen, seating rising upwards gives a different poit of view to the usual modern small screen cinemas. A nice cinema to visit.

The screen is amazing.... clean, clear and sharp. The sound is lovely and for once you arent sitting there with your ears ringing after - nicely tuned and just "about right" so you can hear the dialog and get the full surround effect.

Its steeply tiered - so its a bit of a climb up - but it means you can have a 6 foot-er in front of you with no issues. Just be aware of this if you are less than agile.

Sensible prices in the pop up cafe/bar outside and they dont mind if you take your drinks in (just remember to hand back your rubbish at the end.

We saw "Fishermans friends" and it turned out to be a lovely evening

Set in historic and atmospheric old Portsmouth, friendly staff, chatting about film, a cheap beer or snack before the film. And the screen is huge! Everyone gets a good view from the stepped seating area.
This is how cinema should be.
And a great selection of quality films, it seems. I would even go there for the blockbusters

No6 Cinema is located at Boathouse no6 inside the Historic Dockyard, it is run by a dedicated team of volunteers and it boasts one of the largest screens on the South Coast. The program is electic offering classics, some foreign language, documentaries and the most recent titles. There is also a cafe' bar.
The venue is unique, must be seen.
