Awesome.

It’s traditional for restaurants here to offer a Sunday roast plate. You just pick the protein. I had the chicken and my husband had the beef. Both were amazing. Best Sunday roast ever!

Beers and food
Aug 2019
What an excellent corner local type pub, with good food this is.Ten real, well kept, beers to chose from and a modest wine offering. The food is excellent value, everything from an all day breakfast to a steak and all of a fair quality. The Sunday roasts are outstanding and folk travel a fair distance to eat them. Well worth the visit for good pub grub at very fair prices.

Lovely pub

This is a Great little pub, nice decor and selection of drinks. nice pub garden. friendly & welcoming staff and locals. I regret to speak negatively but I was left feeling quite disappointed with the Sunday roast, in terms of both standard of food and the small portion size. I had to ask for extra roast potatoes and only 2 were on the plate, and not exactly cheap at £10.95. Maybe going at 2pm was the issue perhaps too late. Yet on opening night some years back we had amazing butchers burgers so I perhaps had high hopes for the roast.

Great pub for beers
Apr 2019
Popped in to have a couple of beers and a meal. It was St Georges day beer festival so only doing a hog roast that night that we didn't fancy. However, stayed for a couple of pints, excellent range of good beers and well kept.
Would come back to try the food another time.

What a great public house. It is so nice to find pubs like this still in existence. Situated right in the heart of the community but an absolute oasis.Plenty of choice for some top tasting real ales and great value food menu. We will certainly be paying this gem more visits in the future. Keep up the good work and don't change a thing.

Talk about a MAMMOTH lie in! Totally Hangry in need of food. Choices: - home cooked Full English (with stocks a tad low so a trip to the shops...maybe?) OR nip around the corner to the Welly for a roast...hmmmm...NOT much of a choice...Welly, here we come.

Opted for one lamb and one chicken roast...GREAT decision as the food was Deeeelish!!! 😎❤

A Real Pub !
Sep 2018 • Friends
The Wellington is a hidden gem set back one block from the bustle of Shirley High St. it is an oasis of calm; a place where you can sit and mull over your pint in peace.
It is also very warm and welcoming - without the need to say so! - and plenty of good music goes on there in the evenings.
We visited at lunch time and found the food plain, honest, good and cheap: proper pub-grub. Our beer was excellent and there is a very wide range of really good ales and cider. Locals use it which is always a good sign but I was really struck by the honesty and sincerity of the place; although it has a famous tradition it is entirely unpretentious, does what it says on the tin.
This is down to the really decent, genuine, first-rate landlord who is really friendly, approachable, helpful and who really knows how to keep beer.
We look forward to going back !

Excellent Traditional English Pub
Aug 2018 • Friends
I have drunk in many pubs in and around Southampton, but this one stands out as one of the best. There is a nice choice of ales, stouts and lagers to enjoy. The staff are very friendly and the whole pub has a very welcoming and homely feel about it. Would definitely recommend drinking in here for a nice relaxing evening.
