The St. James Tavern, or the SJT as we are known to our locals and regulars, is a proper pub with traditional cask marque recognised beers and proper pub food. We're all about the 'proper'. Mix in some interesting bits and bobs, some funky lighting...more

Nice sandwiches and small fish and chips on a Wednesday lunch in January, which might account for the quiet atmosphere. Staff were very efficient and friendly and the decor of interest. Our experience would have benefited form a few more customers. The fish was a...More

Don't be fooled by the small size of the venue downstairs bar, upstairs there's a fabulous private room perfect for a Christmas Party. We held a work party of 21 up there. Excellent food and service at very reasonable prices. Highly recommended!

Food is alright, but the wait makes it worth looking elsewhere. The staff walks around and do their stuff while you can wait up to 45 minutes, no apologies no mention on the delay. A bit disappointing.

We were very lucky to get a table! Staff were friendly and efficient. Lovely old pub with freshly cooked food, very filling and would definitely go back. Good location just out of city centre.

Too dark to see the menu. Sharing platter starter was excellent but plates weren’t provided until asked for. Beef shin mains were far too dry with just a hint of sauce at the bottom, although it may have been a mirage (it really was that...More

Had the lunch fish sandwich, good sized meal for 6.50 pounds. Ate in the good company of the friendly black lab. Went at a slow time and enjoyed the quiet cool atmosphere and service. Nice afternoon.

Great feel of a local to strangers and regulars alike. Great choice of gin and ale and very tasty (and good portion sizes) food but the star of the show are the staff, who are friendly, helpful and feel like they invest their time in...More
