- Terry R14 contributionsGreat Break and Great Customer ServiceI looked at the reviews before going on Mon 29th Jan to Fri 2nd Feb, was a little concerned about a few as like all of us, we do like clean accommodation. However we arrived at 3.00pm on the Monday, had a great welcome and checked in, lovely welcome etc, sat down for a coffee in the cafe as we were not allowed un till 4.00, by 3.30 we had our key's and drove off to No 57 Golden Oak. Lovely lodge, great lay out, over all clean but cobwebs in high elevation areas and the main window dirty inside and back door glass dirty, not the end of the world as loved the fact there is a big gap between you and next door, great planning as you look out to just woodland, little thing, your hot tub although amazing ( after you work out how to use it, maybe just me but hard to put on and adjust settings etc) was dissapointed that you can look straight over to your neighbours having a dip too, a little trellis and that would make it perfect. On Monday evening a knock on the door and two staff were there and asked if everything was ok, thought this was a really nice gesture, never had that before. Overall the staff were all very freindly and helpful so 5 stars for them. We will return as very impressed. Thank you all for a great break.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 February 2024
- Carol PSurrey, United Kingdom30 contributionsGood quiet breakWe stayed in a 2 bedroom golden oak cabin , this was clean and tidy not tired like some reviews have said , warm underfloor heating . The retreat offered a bar, mini shop, and food including breakfast , we also had a curry delivered to our cabin. Bear in mind you are not near any shops in walking distance . 20 minute drive to Winchester or 8 minutes ( one stop ) on the train from micheldever station .We also ate Sunday roast at the Dove inn a 7 minute drive from Blackwood forest located opposite micheldever station.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 February 2024
- lesley constable14 contributionsBlackwood forestone of the best holidays we have had in a long time. Nice to relax and unwind. staff is so friendly food fabulous hot and delivered to our cabin we stayed in the Golden Oak hideaway and could not fault anything. Everything was so clean and tidy underfloor heating was a plus we stayed in February but not even the rain could put a damper on our holiday. loved 😍 the hot tub. most definitely 5☆☆☆☆☆ LesleyVisited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 February 2024
- A91FLM3 contributionsLOVE this placeMy whole family came to stay for the week and we had a marvellous time! The cabins are a nice size, all come with a hot tub! En suites in the main bedrooms. There is plenty to do locally but the forest is also closer to other locations that would take longer from where we come from. We did alot of travelling during our stay and always came back in the evening for dinner, hot tub and bed! We will try the golden orchard next time when we come with more family.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 12 May 2024
- dean01976 .Basingstoke, United Kingdom41 contributionsThanks Shirley !Me and my wife took our cockapoo for a walk on bank holiday Monday, as we have on many occasions, as for a dog walk this is the perfect place. We also popped into the cafe for a fried breakfast, which is great value for money. Also wanted to mention our waitress Shirley who was incredibly helpful and friendly and it’s people like her which make visiting some places so memorable.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 May 2024
- JohnboytravelerReading, United Kingdom31 contributionsAutumn in the forestLots of room in 6 people lodge. Warm and comfortable. Quite dark inside the lodge, low light in the kitchen. Hot tub nice and hot. Not the best equipped kitchen we have had in a lodge , no sharp knives of scissors , only 4 glass tumblers. In a very nice forest, only 25 miles from home but felt like hundreds of miles away, god break.Visited September 2024Travelled with familyWritten 26 September 2024

I brought my wife and son here for a 4 night stay, I booked well in advance so got a good deal on a gold lodge.
On arrival I was able to get an early check in for an additional cost, when I got into the property it wasn’t particularly clean, and there was a musty smell.
We had been in the place about 2 hours and it was freezing, I checked the thermostat and the dials on the wall all were working fine but no heat or hot water.
I called out the site servicing team who arrived quite quick to be fair, the boiler wasn’t working and the header tank was not full, this was day one.
We are now on Wednesday, we went out today and came back to a putrid smell, the bath was half filled with dirty leaves and water, I called out the service team who used the hoover in the property to unblock the blockage in the drain.
My Mrs is 3 months pregnant and the property is below a gold standard.. this needs sorting out the sofas are dirty not been hoovered and the cushions smell of arse!
For £500 pounds I feel like I’ve been robbed of my hard earned money, this is not acceptable, the location is perfect, however the accommodation price cleanliness is let down.
Be aware that inside the property up high there is an owl which appears to be an ornamental figure, to an untrained eye it doesn’t look out of the ordinary, on further investigation the owl is secured and a little power box next to it, it’s a camera, I never signed a disclaimer, this is a breach in our privacy and others who have stayed in the place.

This is the second time we stayed at Blackwood forest, the first time was about 6 years ago. The reason we wanted to go back is that we had such a good experience last time.
Firstly, the extras that i had seemed to book online, didn't actually reflect on my check-in. I booked a highchair for my son, but was told they had run out and were now unavailable, so double check if your extras have been successfully booked.
Secondly, the cleanliness of the cabin was poor, lots of dirt and in general quite grubby, leaves hadn't been swept making the decking and stairs quite dangerous.
All activities seem to be overpriced, even board games you had to pay for to hire.
Maybe they were too busy over the festive period to full cater for everyone.

First time visitor but will certainly return. The cabins are extremely spacious and the clean. Really felt like a home from home. The staff are all very helpful and I cannot recommend highly enough the rifle shooting activity. The couple who run this were outstanding and the entire family had a fun filled session from start to finish. Thank you so much!

I love this area for dog walks and have had good experiences on previous times I've visited, but was extremely disappointed with the cafe visit today! (The August Bank Holiday Monday 2023)
The cafe and shop were quiet and although we were looking at items to buy in the shop before 1 p.m, a few minutes after 1 p.m we were told that we were not allowed to buy items from the shop or order food as their policy was to serve staying guests only between 1 p.m- 4 p.m on Mondays and Fridays. My sister in law wanted to buy a soft toy for her 4 year old son at a few minutes past 1 p.m and they wouldn't allow her to buy it. This business will surely be losing out and my nephew was incredibly upset too. There were 4 staff who were standing around not doing a lot- it wouldn't have hurt them to put a transaction through their till.
On top of this I had to wait an exceptionally long time for the coffee I ordered, (before the weird rule came in to not serve non residents) despite it not being busy. Their was one nice lady who did apologise about the delay. I also found a small black hair in my coffee, which was off-putting.
I also ordered a vegan sausage roll & when asked for it to be heated up the man working there wasn't wearing gloves, and just took it in his palm, when he had been stroking dogs and handling cash. (He could have used tongs or asked me to put it on the plate.)
Although I like this area, I would be reluctant to visit this cafe again as I feel the majority of the cafe staff lacked common sense and the lady turning non residents away after 1 p.m seemed to be enjoying doing so.
I will be letting as many people I can know about this very disappointing experience today!

Have just returned from a 3 night stay here. We had the golden oak 5 bedroom cabin which was very spacious and had everything we needed in the kitchen. We were however disappointed with a few things. On packing to come home one of the baby toys couldnt be found. We looked under the settee and was horrified how dirty it was. The oven and BBQ we're also not that great and the gowns didn't smell fresh. We paid £2,500 to stay here that was without all the expensive extras. Although as a family ranging from 9 months to 66 years we had a great time just a few things would have made it perfect.

Visited the forest today with our dog, all o can say is what a crap hole!! We took several different path and every one was littered with rubbish. One path took us towards a caravan site. Broken toys, building rubbish, metal, just a total mess, another path had a old door and litter and another path had a whole roof from tiles, fascia’s, felt that had been fly tipped. I noticed it is actually the site for a lodge holiday complex, for the life of me I wonder who would pay to stay there. Could be so beautiful as we saw lots of wildlife including deer, but the rubbish is a huge concern!

Gorgeous setting and lovely winter escape. Blackwood forrest felt like a perfect inbetweener for centre parcs and Soho house. Cabins are kitted out..very spacious.
Lovely bedrooms, under floor heating and the hot tub on the deck is perfect. Staff on site were all more than helpful and so lovely.
I read a review that said the sofas in the cabins are uncomfortable and they were not wrong - very hard and cold. Need to be cosier.
Log fire provided but they make you buy logs and kindling which I found mean and not needed. Logs should be a given in a cabin.
Perfect getaway spot in Hampshire x

Grabbed a last minute deal which was still expensive but just affordable. The cabin was well equipped for utensils but on close inspection not very clean.
The hot tub was amazing and certainly made the break. If you’re looking for some peace & chill time I would definitely recommend.
Improvements could be made in cleaning; anything 5ft or above the floor is not dusted, windows & sills dirty. Had to put all glasses & cups through dishwasher on arrival as cloudy.
Showers need updating as not powerful.
Paid for early check in but workman sawing in forest behind cabin for 2 hours so wasn’t worth extra charge. Overall we loved our stay but it’s not worth full price.

Can you just park up and walk here and are there any facilities??

Don't park by the entrance. Our car rear window was smashed and items stolen from the boot.

A few on the main road coming from Basingstoke, the Cafe Bar on site does a cracking range of real ales.

How far to walk to closest pub, also do you do anything special for hen do
Written 22 February 2019
The closest nice pub was a five minute drive, the drive to get into Blackwood forest is very long and snowed when we went so we couldn’t really walk it, we Had a hot tub and took our own games and really stayed in the lodge a lot as we went to spend time with the girls and have a laugh with each other.
Written 23 February 2019
The newest pub would be a few miles away. The onsight coffee shop/store serves drinks and cakes etc and has seating. They also serve quality ready made meals in the shop.In the winter we would take our children here and play the table games with a hot chocolate after a walk.

Is there a barrier on the car park as we would like to bring our motor home ? Thank you Tina
Written 30 January 2018
There is a barrier but not a height restricted one. However the car park spaces next to the cabins are not very large and only sized to suit cars.
Written 8 February 2018
Hi could you tell me if there is a tesco near by. Also is there a beach incase we want to get out and about ???
Written 19 June 2017
The nearest shop is probably a Southern Co-operative in Overton to the north - less than 10 minutes by car. Basingstoke to the north-east and Winchester to the south-west both have a full range of supermarkets, neither are very far by car - 30 minutes or so.
Blackwood Forest is in the north of Hampshire, it's not near the coast at all. If you wanted to you could drive about an hour to the Hampshire coast and find one.
