- Hitesh CRedditch, United Kingdom241 contributionsLovely visitLovely cathedral with parking straight outside it. As today was a bank holiday the cathedral shop was shut and hardly any volunteers there. Lovely cathedral though, but don’t forget your coat of going in the cooler months.Visited December 2022Travelled as a coupleWritten 27 December 2022
- Gil SMiddlesbrough, United Kingdom49 contributionsHereford Cathedral TourWe visited Hereford in the summer and liked it so much we came back. This time we decided to take a tour of the cathedral. Our tour guide, Erica, was really knowledgeable and gave us a fabulous tour of the highlights of the cathedral. It was so fascinating that we were amazed when she told us we were about to go and see the last part of the tour. The time had just flown by. I would very much recommend the tour. It revealed lots of hidden gems and surprises, as well as telling the history of this magnificent building.Visited December 2022Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 December 2022
- lou1232013456 contributionsBeautiful visitAn interesting building which is free to enter and no one is stood by the door forcing donations (like some other cathedrals). The stained glass in beautiful and a real highlight. Lovely to hear the choir practising as we walked round.Visited January 2023Written 30 January 2023
- grumpyoldmanWalsallWalsall, United Kingdom197 contributionsGreatWhat a superb building. Loads of history beautiful architecture and helpful staff. On the very positive side this Cathedral does not charge an entrance fee. As it should be for a working church. Happy to pay a donation Had great time exploring the historyVisited March 2023Written 7 March 2023
- lincolnhatterLincoln, United Kingdom753 contributionsThe Mappa Mundi cant be missedA very good visit to Hereford Cathedral, no pressure to pay or donate so was happy to leave a donation. As always I admire the wonderful architecture, skill and sheer hard work that went into building this and Britain's beautiful places of worship, I'm not religious in any way but I can understand how people have faith and are uplifted by these magnificent buildings from massive cathedrals to tiny simple churches. The highlight of Hereford is the Mappa Mundi and the Chained Library, now these are chargeable but well worth the money, the Library is fascinating, such antiquities, and the Mappa Mundi is wonderful, the geography, the weird creatures and strange humanoids (in fact I reckon I saw some of the people I work with!). Really good displays and info boards before you get to the star of the show, its well worth the money! Though I did find one of the male attendants a bit snotty and supercilious when speaking to him. Two lovely cakes in the cafe, an orange polenta and a cherry pistachio, nice cloister garden area to have cakesMany thanks for taking the time to leave us such a glowing review!, we are so pleased you enjoyed your visit.Written 11 August 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited June 2023Written 18 July 2023
- Jo EBath, United Kingdom38 contributionswow!what a lovely treat. there was nobody trying to empty your wallet as you walked through the door. a beautiful ancient place with fabulous organ music being played. full of history and very friendly and welcoming. the lady who showed us the mappa mundi and the chained library was a shining star, full of love and enthusiasm.well done Hereford cathedralVisited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 15 August 2023
- Chilterner101Oxfordshire, United Kingdom96 contributionsIt's big, free and full of interestUnlike many cathedrals, Hereford is free to enter and wander around. Easy to spend an hour+ taking it all in. It even has a accurate facsimile Mappa Mundi on display meaning you don't need to go to the paid exhibition if you don't wish to. While this was an unexpected bonus, surely they are undermining revenue-generation from their main draw? Top tip ... visit when there is a service on and you can first catch the choir and organ in full inspiring flow before embarking on your wander around the building.Visited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 1 September 2023
- mike sUnited Kingdom547 contributionsFascinating HistoryWe would strongly advise taking the guided tour as our volunteer guide had a wealth of interesting histories to reveal. The largely Norman cathedral is imposing with some lovely details but doesn't have the grandeur of other later cathedrals. It is easily accessible by mobility scooter and is set in peaceful grounds. Obviously a must it visiting Hereford (especially if you haven't seen the unique Mappa Mundi)Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 14 October 2023
- BobSt. Neots, United Kingdom233 contributionsLovely building and atmosphere. We visited the Cathedral whilst holidaying in Worcestershire and it was worth the 25 mile drive to see what has to be Hereford's main attraction. We were greeted by friendly staff at the door and then made our own way round the building. Although my wife uses a walker most places were accessible and I just needed to help her in a few places.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 15 October 2023

Comparatively small cathedral but a good looking one. Lots of stained glass and some chunky pillars.
The main attraction here is the Mappa Mundy – over 700 years old and the chain library which is pretty unique too. There is a charge of, I think £6 to see these but entrance to the cathedral is by donation/free.

Staying not too far away, decided to visit on a cold and rainy day. Cathedral has interesting architecture, loads of graves/memorials and some superb leaded light windows. Interesting and informative panels, plus enthusiastic volunteers. Well worth a visit, especially to see the SAS window/area. Cafe fine.

What a beautiful and welcoming visit to the Cathedral. First time visit to Hereford so lovely to be greeted warmly on entrance and such a calming stunning and well cared for cathedral. The service from the staff in the cafe was excellent, and the food was delicious with hot sausage rolls, smoked salmon quiche and choc walnut cake. All served and made with care and a moment to sit and admire our surroundings with a welcoming chat from the reverend. Thank you and bless you all.

While this is far from the largest cathedral that I have been to, it really is one of the best. A really nice example of a big old church.

Simple beauty both in the catheral and the surrounding close. The musical programme associated with the cathedral is rich and varied.

Does Hereford Cathedral really discriminate against disabled visitors by nit providing disabled parking?
Clare S
Presteigne, UK74 contributions
As others have commented, we do not offer public parking at all, as space around the cathedral is so limited. If disabled visitors are coming to a special event, they may contact the cathedral office - details on our website - and parking spaces can be allocated to them.

Will the cathedral be open after the 1.30 ceremony on Good Friday?
Yes, it will. The Liturgy of the Passion is quite long - it probably won't finish until well after three o'clock - but once it is over the cathedral will be open until after Evening Prayer which is said at 5.30 pm in the Lady Chapel.

Is there an entry fee and if so how much is it?
Hello! As others have said, entry to the cathedral itself is completely free, though donations are appreciated and we do charge for guided tours.
Details of current entry fees for the Mappa Mundi, Chained Library and special exhibitions can be found on our website under 'Visit Us' - we currently charge £6 for adults (£5 students) and various prices for family groups.

Hello, can you tell me if dogs are allowed in the cathedral or grounds please.
Just to clarify the situation on behalf of the cathedral - I'm afraid that our office staff are not able to look after dogs while their owners look round the cathedral. This may have been possible in the past but the limitations of our office space and the many other responsibilities of our small staff make it impossible. Dogs are welcome in the close and in our Chapter House Garden where a water bowl is provided for them, but only assistance dogs are allowed in the cathedral itself.
