    Potter’s wheel day course
I was gifted a Potter’s Wheel day course, the day was brilliant from start to finish. The teachers Jon and Sarah were supportive, good humoured and very enthusiastic, any question answered and help provided. Demonstrated first by Jon, then we spent the morning throwing small pots learning skills along the way. After lunch after Jon showed how to use larger amounts of clay and try for a plate or larger bowl, surprising results, some good and some hilarious! I left with two items chosen from many to fire, glaze and post on to me. Throughly enjoyed my day, and would love to do the two day course in the future.
Thank you Christine! The clay can really surprise you cant it!? sometimes in a good way, sometimes, as you suggest in a hilarious way...but always in a positive learning kinda way...no mistakes when you work with clay on the potter's wheel, just oodles of happy accidents! We loved working with you all and pretty sure you'll be blown away by the quality of your work when it arrives on your doorstep. Thanks once again for coming and reviewing your experience....and of course, we'd love to welcome you back for the weekender :)

    Fabulous bucketlist experience
Had such a fantastic time learning and making clay pots with my Mum. Sarah and Jon are so friendly and patient and I even managed to make something half decent! I wish I lived closer as I would love to come back and practise some more.
Thank you so much for making the long journey to Eastnor and we loved working with you both..and I think you are underselling your pottery prowess - your board of pots were 100% decent! It's a great way to spend some mother and daughter time and we trust you enjoyed the rest of your time in the Shire. Thanks for both coming and choosing us to strike pottery off your bucket list. :)

You'd be Potty Not To. (Sorry)
What a smashing weekend. Excellent tuition in an art form as old as the hills; exceptionally patient and accommodating course leaders; lots of humour. And, extraordinarily, some recognisable pots at the end. Highly recommended for curious types. Warning: have a go, but you might get hooked.
Hello James and thank you for reviewing your weekend with us. We loved sharing the delights of the potter's wheel with your group and were struck by your close friendship - cant believe the girls knew each other from the age of 4yrs!!! The end results looked fantastic and are going to 'sing' once they've been fired and glazed. We loved the way you shared the techniques you discovered with your friends, particularly the 'blow and stipple' decorating method!! ;)...and you are quite right, the wheel is extremely addictive. Thanks once again for visiting us and for waxing lyrical about your potter's wheel weekend here on TA...oh, and you are totally forgiven the pun!

Friendly relaxed creative things to do
Brilliant afternoon spent with an 8yr old and 12yr old and if I didn't have a baby in tow I could have easily slotted in too! Upbeat yet relaxed atmosphere, gentle and friendly guidance and a great creative afternoon had by all. Stunning surroundings - if the weather was better we would have walked nearby in Eastnor deer park too!
Aww, thanks Helen! :D Great to welcome you all to the Pottery and so glad you had a lovely time. The children's creations were fabulous and the creativity and good vibes were well and truly in evidence through out the morning...shame the weather wasn't as equally wonderful! Like the 'upbeat yet relaxed' description. This is exactly what we strive for. It's amazing what people achieve when they feel energised and content in their surroundings. We hope to welcome you all back to the Pottery at some point. If you could get a babysitter for the morning, I'd think you'd love our Introduction to the Potter's Wheel Class. Anyway, thanks for coming and for taking the time to review here on TripAdvisor. :)

Fantastic pottery experience in a great location
A really enjoyable two-day course with Jon & Sarah; Jon (who did the demonstrations) is a brilliant pottery teacher and very generous with his knowledge, packing in lots of useful information and different techniques. Learned a lot in two days and came away totally enthused about pottery. Highly recommended.
Aww, thank you Sue and if we were in the market for blowing our own trumpets :D we'd totally agree with you! We pack a dizzying amount of technique and approach into the weekend course, participants come away with a genuine appreciation of the potter's craft. Glad you enjoyed the Herefordshire countryside too - Eastnor is very beautiful, particularly where you stayed - you'd certainly would have had your fill of breath-taking rural tranquillity. We are so pleased you were able to add to your already ample pottery tool kit and we'd be delighted to see you again to fine tune those skills. Thanks for coming and for recommending here on Trip Advisor.

    Fantastic pottery throwing weekend
Brilliant weekend, great fun and amazing that you actually make some pots that you paint and glaze. Sarah and Jon were great teachers, very helpful, kind and enthusiastic and ensured everyone got the time and attention they needed so that they were able to successfully make/throw pots. Very much recommend whether you are a beginner or have some experience.
Thank you so much for taking the time to review your weekend with us. Our Potter's Wheel Weekend Course is the longest and most immersive experience we currently offer and we cram it with more techniques and approaches than you can shake a stick at! Not only do you make your own pots, but you get to add handles, sprigs and decorate your creations. Even the most humble little pot can be transformed on day two with slips and underglaze. Participants are amazed at the quality of their work once it's posted out to them a few weeks later...as I'm sure you'll be once they arrive....they look pretty special this very moment on the drying shelves. We're as excited as you are to see what they look like after they've been fired and glazed. Thanks once again for spending the weekend with us and for your positive review. :)

    Wonderful brilliant fantastic
Sarah and Jon are a delightful couple who have many years of experience, their teaching method is outstanding. This was my second time as my first experience was such an amazing day I returned for the weekend course highly recommend such fun and great atmosphere. Friendly welcoming and relaxed vibe.
LOVE your x3 word review Kim!! Too kind too kind! :) It was so nice to welcome you back and so pleased you were able to sample all the techniques we share on our two day course. As it's the longest experience we currently offer, it's definitely the Rolls Royce of the fleet and crammed full of potter's wheel info and tips. In the short time since your last visit, your potter's wheel technique and advancement in skill has come on in leaps and bounds. (I can't remember the last time someone tackled a x4 lumper!) Your decoration on day two was awesome too, the 'his & her' mugs - perfect! Now you have your own kick wheel, you'll be on The Pottery Throw down in no time. Well done and thanks again , not only for being a returner, but for raving about so beautifully afterwards. We hope to see you again soon.

    Fantastic and friendly creative experience
We had such a wonderful day at Eastnor Pottery learning how to throw pots. We had no prior experience, but Jon and Sarah soon put everyone at ease (we were a group of 8). It's such a warm, cosy and friendly environment to explore some new creative skills. After some demonstrations and introductory guidance, we were soon sat at our individual wheels, trying out our first pots. Jon and Sarah and their helper Ellie were really helpful, answering questions, and offering advice as we tried to get the hang of things. You can go at your own pace, but most people managed to make around 10 pots. You can choose a few of your best attempts to be fired, and delivered to you a few weeks afterwards. We had a really friendly and fun day, highly recommended if you want to try something creative and new!
Thank you Howard :D and we had a really friendly and fun time working with you both. We love the way everybody bonded over the potter's wheels on Saturday. A lovely group, not only in personality but in potter's wheel ability too! Once you'd got the measure of the holey bottoms (if you'll excuse the expression!) we thought your pots and shapes were ACE. Well done indeed. Thank you both for choosing Eastnor Pottery and for reviewing your day with us on TripAdvisor. We'll be in touch as soon as your lovely creations have emerged from the kiln.

What a wonderful, friendly place. Made very welcome and had a lovely time with my 7 year old niece. Our final pieces assured any potter professionals that their jobs were safe, but we had a relaxing and fun time!

We think the pair of you did brilliantly, and if I was a 'professional' maker of mermaids, I'd be quaking in my boots! Those clay models were fantastic! Well done to you both and so pleased you had a fun and relaxing time. :) Hope to welcome you back to the Pottery at some point in the future.

Jon and Sarah were lovely people and great teachers. I loved how they gave guidance and encouragement but also just let us experiment. We had a full day - the time flew and I honestly could’ve stayed for another day. The pottery studio is lovely, and the area is beautiful. Highly recommend to anyone who is starting out and wants an opportunity to learn and practice with non-judgemental, kind, true artists. Great value for money when you realise how much you get.

What a lovely review - thank you so much. We try our best to strike the balance between communicating the basics whilst allowing people to discover the magic themselves...by just playing with the stuff and seeing what it can do. We are so pleased you felt we got just about right. Thank you. The day whizzes by doesn't it!? That saying 'time flys when you're having fun' couldn't be more apt. We loved working with you as much as you enjoyed your day with us and thank you so much for your kind words and recommendation. :)

Excellent weekend course. Jon and Sarah were very attentive and patient. This was my very first time in trying my hand using a potters wheel and, despite many failed attempts, through their excellent tuition, I managed to make several reasonable pots and plates. I thoroughly enjoyed my weekend and would certainly like to do some more pottery courses.

The Potter's Wheel Weekend Courses are just as enjoyable for us as they are for our guests. It's so nice to share our skill and creative space with individuals for an extended length of time... x2 days really does give you an insight into oodles of potters wheel techniques and making possibilities....and the pieces participants make are amazing, particularly once they have been assembled and painted on day two. Thank you so much for sharing some quality potting time with us and we hope to welcome you back to the Pottery in the future to continue your clay journey.

I have just returned from a two day course at Eastnor.
The location was easy to find and facilities were great.
I was part of a group of eight people, some of whom were returning but others complete novices.
The group was friendly as were the tutors. We all received plenty of attention and learned a lot and also had great fun. We were encouraged to be bold and creative.
I would have no hesitation in recommending the course to anyone. I thoroughly enjoyed it- the time went way too quickly 😀

Thanks Nicola - it was so nice to meet you and get to hear about all your adventures in clay. Have you had chance to knock 'em dead with your newly acquired and amazing potter's wheel skills!? The set up there in your home town sounds wonderful and a great environment to 'make'. Please feel free to send us photos of your creative clay work at any point. Thanks once again for coming and you are quite right, the group was a lovely mix of characters :)

If I could give less than one star I would as we didn’t get to do the pottery class. Before setting off we checked the sat nav so gave ourselves enough time (M6), but unfortunately the time went up saying we was going to be late! Out of courtesy I gave the place a call to inform (11.30am the class was not till 2pm) but unfortunately it said user busy so clearly they was on the phone, and I was not able to leave a message. I called back every minute (by ending and hitting the call button) until 11.45am so I just thought they was on the phone. again saying user busy so was not able to leave a message. It got to 1pm and at this point the sat nav said we was going to be 30 minutes late! So again I tried to give them a call to be met with user busy. I called every minute until 1.14pm when I was met with an option to leave a voice mail, due to this I thought maybe they left the phone for a minute so I didn’t leave a message and called back at 1.15pm (in hope to catch someone) but no it went straight to user busy? Again I called back every minute to try and catch them coming off the phone, until 1.17pm I was met with the option to leave a message. So they was clearly taking the phone off the hook and putting it back on again! I left a message explain I have been calling from 11.30am- 11.45pm & 1pm- 1.17pm and how unprofessional it was. Then conveniently I had a call back from the very hostile Jon saying I had spoken with someone, and “if someone doesn’t answer the phone they are busy! So why wouldn’t you leave a massage” (very rude and arrogant) He wouldn’t let me talk I had to ask him at one point to let me speak! He sarcastically laughed down the phone at me when I suggested they had taken the phone off the hook (only explanation) I didn’t get an apology at any point, and found the experience very unprofessional as I was only trying to let them know we would be late or reschedule. It is very upsetting as I have wanted to do pottery from a young age, and unfortunately Jon completely ruined the expectation, and we made a 3hour journey for nothing.

Hello Amy and thank you for leaving a review. We are a small, caring business with customer experience at the heart of our practice, all feedback is genuinely welcome. Sounds like your journey to the Pottery on Friday was an exceptionally distressing and frustrating one for you and we are sorry you had problems getting through to us. Friday was an incredibly busy day with fully booked classes and a very active phone line -Jo our admin was quite literally rushed off her feet. I can assure you we make every effort to answer all calls and emails as quickly as possible and to act on the contrary would be, as you say, unprofessional and counter productive - it just wouldn't make business sense. Sorry there was an initial mix-up with your identity. It may surprise you to learn you were two of six 2pm participants snarled up in the same hold-up on the motorway. We simply confused you with another customer in the same predicament as yourselves. What we found objectionable was the tone and content of your voice mail when you finally decided to leave one. To accuse us of being unprofessional and having purposely left the phone off the hook was unfounded and uncalled for. The message I left you by return, indeed questioned your attitude but also offered re-assurance even if you were half an hour late, you'd still be able to join the session. I also mentioned we'd be able re-schedule if you didn't manage to make it. Incidentally, all of the other participants caught up in the motorway tailback let us know they were running late in a rational and effective manner and all managed to arrive at the Pottery for the start of the session.

Absolutely AMAZING day of pot making. Sarah was an incredible teacher , only two of our group had used a pottery wheel before and we were all up to scratch by the end of the day!
I can’t wait to receive my fired and glazed pots soon!

WOW what a fantastic review, thank you so much. It really is AMAZING how much newbies develop their potter's wheel prowess in a single day....and the beauty of it, that new found skill will never be far away if you take to the potter's wheel in the future. It's such an accumulative skill - just like riding a bicycle...and of course very addictive! Once you get your fired and glazed masterpieces back in the post, you'll be itching o try it again.

I spent the day at Eastnor Pottery to hone up my throwing skills. John and Sarah are accomplished teachers who happily dealt with a range of student experience. Importantly, all the 5 participants (the maximum) were well socially distanced and all neccessary other Covid-19 safety measures were in place. Yet, the course provided for social interaction and there was a great atmosphere. Thee studio is a joy to work in, bright, airy and clean. Full marks - thanks Jon and Sarah.

Hello Peter and great to welcome you back to the Pottery. (has it really been 10 years!?) You certainly proved the 'riding a bike' nature of the potter's wheel as right form the go get, you threw some technically brilliant shapes - well done! Through-out the day you continued to develop your skills and by the close you had chalked up an impressive range of ware. In addition to your pottery prowess, we'd also like to thank you for your excellent social skills and positive vibes. Your contribution to the day was much appreciated and enjoyed by the other participants and of course ourselves. If you ever need another master-class, you know where we are. Thanks once again for reviewing :)

Pleasure was all ours Rupert and Colette! We enjoyed watching you both develop your throwing skills on day one and the creative manner in which you tackled the decoration on day two....and YES - purchase a potter's wheel post haste! It's such a brilliant hobby and one you can achieve very satisfying results from the go get. Please keep us up to date as your studio pottery careers blossom. And thank you for making the long journey to the Shire - you definitely won the 'furthest traveled' award.
