Verulamium Museum

A really excellent local museum showing many artifacts found in and around St Albans, as well as mosaics, coffins with skeletons and showing the history of the area and the people

The weather wasn't so good so decided to visit the museum, and it turned out to be a great idea especially for the children who loved the quiz designed by the museum to help them understand and explore the Romas history. We thought we would be in and out in an hour, we were so wrong, the children enjoyed it... More

We had guests and the afternoon was wet so we decided to visit this museum. I had no idea what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. Firstly residents of the district get in free on proof of this and the fees to get in for the others was minimal. The exhibits were interesting and well documented and explained. We don't... More

Small but very good. Lots of activities for the kids: talks, 'I spy' sheets for the little ones, trail and question sheets for the oldest, mosaic making, etc... My son, 9, studied the Romans last term so the perfect outing. Do walk across the park to the Roman theatre.

Small but informative museum of life in the Roman town of Verulamium. Some stunning mosaics, and, more unusually, wall paintings. Combine it with a visit to the Roman Theatre nearby.

Aside from displays of artifacts and the like, this museum has rooms set up as if there were still in a Roman villa. Not just re-creations but real Roman plaster walls and tiled floors for you to walk through. It was very, very good and there are many mosaics to view, all in an amazing state of repair. Loved it... Nice little museum with the benifit of large grounds to walk around. Well worth doubling up and buying a ticket to the open air theatre saves a bit of money

Living in St Albans, the museum is just on my doorstep and over the years I have visited the museum numerous times. For locals, take a utility bill and you get in for free - or rather your entrance fee is covered having paid council tax - but a great asset, so don't let your visitors get in free, have... More
