About
An eighteenth century working watermill museum and bakery. The mill produces organic stoneground flour and artisan loaves are handmade in the bakery. The majority of our organic grain is grown on a neighbouring farm giving our flour and bread the lowest "food-miles". There are four floors of the mill to explore and the mill's Crossley HD11 oil engine normally runs on Sunday afternoons.

    Like going back in time.
It has lots of history. Lovely volunteers to explain everything. Fresh bread to buy. Very steep staircases up to the upper floors. Could be a little tricky to climb for young children and some elderly. Definitely worth a visit. Wonderful working engine in the building next door.

    A slice of History
This beautifully restored water mill is situated between Redbourn and St Albans on the A5183. Redbournbury is a fully working mill producing a variety of types of flour and delicious freshly baked loaves, rolls and cakes. There is a shop to buy freshly milled flour and a selection of mill related souvenirs. There are recipe cards - an absolute bargain at £1 for a set of 12. A tour of the mill is also available for a small fee. The mill is situated in a quiet location beside the River Ver. Enjoy an ice-cream listening to the sound of the water wheel turning - idyllic! Take a short walk along one of the footpaths locally to take in the best of the view.

    Bread making birthday gift.....
They are not joking when they say 'You will come home with lots of bread'. Lunch provided was excellent and of course included some of the bread I had just made. Can honestly say I learnt so much and enjoyed the day. My son said it was the best Pizza he had ever had ;-) Thanks Steve ....

Wonderful variety of breads. Far superior to the mass produced breads found in supermarkets. Well worth a visit.

We stopped off on a walk and were welcomed very warmly, even though it was close to closing time. A fascinating little place, selling delicious varieties of bread (baked on the premises) with other refreshments. Outdoor seating within the garden on scenic lawn was a welcome rest place for an ice cream! Super helpful staff offered us a tour, spring water top up for the remainder of our walk, plus use of toilets. A very friendly and hospitable historic attraction!

Absolutely fantastic day baking so many different types of bread. I learnt so much. I've just baked my first loaf since the course and it's by far the best I've ever made.

This review is about the Bread Making Experience in The Bakery, not the mill.

A great day in the company of 5 others, gaining experience from Master Baker Steven.

Using fresh yeast, with a variety of flours including a sourdough mixture, we made seven different types of loaf, including tear-and-share focaccia, mini wholemeal, cheese & onion, cottage loaf, baps, orange rolls and finished off with making a deep crust pizza.

Covid restrictions has meant that there is no break for lunch until the end of the baking, although there's plentiful tea/coffee as required, with tasty morsels provided in the way ofan Eccles cake, Chocolate Brownie and a gingerbread person(!).

Not sure on cost as this was a birthday present.

Courses are run a coupe of times a month, on Mondays.

Well worth the experience.

The biscuits and pastries goods are hand made and use better ingredients than in a typical high street bakery.

The bread is excellent and again hand made.

The stone ground flours are superb.

The prices are good.
Recommended.
