About
Burston Garden Centre is a family run business based in St Albans. Our heritage lies in plants; we source mostly from the UK and a large number come directly from our on-site nurseries. Our wonderful plants team are always on hand to pass their extensive knowledge onto our customers. We also have a wide range of homewares, houseplants, seasonal items, garden care, outdoor furniture, and BBQs. Our gift range includes candles, clothing, food, and cards. Additionally, for a small charitable donation, we'll even wrap your gift for you! Our on-site restaurant serves home cooked, high quality food. Plus we also have an aquatics centre, covering ponds, aquariums, water features, fish, and reptiles.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Dogs were allowed 2 years ago but are now banned.
The owner seems to take on Gardener's World Icon Monty Don and all dog loving gardeners because of a poop not being picked up on his premise (according to a local guide). He still sells dog food and beds, but maybe he should focus on birds and cats or go online.

.I visited the cafe today and i was very unhappy with the Food + level of customer service. When we got to the counter we ordered 2 coffees and 1 cheese bap+1 sausage bap.The assistant seemed to be in a world of her own.I wanted mustard with my sausage bap.I had to ask twice at the counter and the assistant said ok.We went outside to eat our food and when it arrived there was no mustard so i asked the waitress again for the mustard to which she replied i will go and get a jar for you.10 minutes later still not arrived. So i had to go back in and ask for a third time until i finally got it.The sausage bap i recieved was barely warm and the bread was very dry.I have been a loyal customer at this cafe for many years but im afraid i wont be returning anytime soon.

Congratulations for having the courage to ban dogs from your shop. I have frequently seen dogs sniffing around the food on sale - not the cafe but the food for sale. Much of the food is displayed at dog nose height and I have previously complained to the desk about this. Also I have seen dogs sniffing amongst the clothing so much so that I didn't buy clothing or food from your store. How refreshing that now people can visit without the worry that comes from dogs in stores. Shopping in your store was so much more pleasurable and several people there were saying the same thing. Stick to your decision - it is possible for people to shop without their dogs without moaning about it. Thank you.

Made a special journey for lunch here today as checked their website and found the summer sharing platter , very similar to previous years ploughman’s we had there and enjoyed. On arrival at cafe it was not on menu despite it still being shown on the website . I was informed by quite a rude abrupt dark haired older lady at the counter that menu had changed yesterday and as website was outsourced it hadn’t been changed , nothing she could do apparently. I did ask if they could put something similar together as they had all of the items anyway but no not interested. Asked to speak to the kitchen manager , he wasn’t there today but a supervisor was . Ten minutes later a youngish dishevelled male appeared or rather slumped over with a vague expression, didn’t introduce himself just said “yes” and fiddled with a blue dishcloth shredding it whilst speaking. Really not interested and if that’s the calibre of a supervisor running the cafe , then I am astonished it’s still open , nothing resolved at all , suffice to say will not recommend this eating place , it’s clearly gone downhill. Previously an older gentleman appeared to run it and he was so welcoming and friendly, staff here now appear to dislike their jobs
, maybe need to look for new ones .

A frequent visitor to the garden centre and its restaurant. First time Sunday Roast lunch, very good. Quantity and quality, for the price - no complaints. The sample menus online are just that. The turkey and pork options were unavailable. The veg roast, beef and chicken were. If fussy phone up first. Staff always friendly and helpful. Last year the Christmas meals were incredibly popular even with the almost doubling of covers - worth booking.

Walking distance from my house and have visited fairly frequently for over 18 years. One of the larger garden centres. Good cafe, good selection of outdoor plants, plenty of accessories, free local deliveries over £100 value, separate fish and aquatics centre, large selection of cakes and beers, loads of greeting cards. Cannot fault it. Different products and specialities from its rival, Ayletts, so worth visiting both.

After a disappointing trip to nearby Ayletts we stopped for tea and cake. Had a lovely cream tea in the cafe. The surroundings weren’t as nice as Ayletts, but the service and availability set it apart. The plants were also 20% cheaper all round.
