Very welcoming.

We only popped in as we walked passed for a quick drink but the landlord was lovely and found us a great table. He went through all the various drinks choices, some of which were unusual or local to Kent. The pub itself is quirky and I definitely recommend a visit.

You must find and spend time.

Sought out this bar after reading about it on Tripadvisor and we weren’t disappointed. Sadly we only had time for one drink but whilst we were there, struck up conversations with the landlord and other customers. Would have loved to have spent a few more hours there sampling some of the many beers on offer.

POP IN FOR A PINT

Visited here while staying in Canterbury. All Covid rules applied including track & trace form. Lovely landlord who definitely knows his trade & enjoys a good chin wag. I had mulberry gin which was delicious hubby enjoyed a couple of pints of cider. Small, quirky & well worth a visit.

Don’t miss this gem

We stumbled on this ale house by pure luck! Exploring Canterbury looking for original old bars. We walked in, walked around looking for the bar...and there isn’t one. The owner greeted us and explained that it was an ale house. He showed us the extensive drinks menu which has lots of craft beers and is changed regularly. They sell everything the bars have gin, wine, prosecco and soft drinks, but a nicer selection of snacks...including proper pork scratchings! Log burner, people talking to each other, comfortable rooms to sit in, games to play, NO slot machines, tv’s or music...an absolute gem of a place...well done to the owner for keeping it original. He will also gladly tell you about the ancient history of the place. Do not miss this place!

We spent a comfortable afternoon sampling the ales on the board . Great conversation with the friendly Keeper of The Ale. Three seating areas in this Delightful Elderly Building. Worth a walk along the Kings Mile.

Finally Found it!

It's a lovely cosy place, with a nice modern feel in an characterful building. There is no bar but they come and take your order. We were there on a busy Friday night and the drinks came straight away. Worth a visit for an extensive range of cask and craft beers and ciders in a picturesque corner of Canterbury.

Wonderful cozy pub without bells, whistles and sky sports!

Just about the beers, ciders and gins on offer. I think they have Avery limited menu so it’s not a gastropub.

Very Cosy

Lovely little alehouse, no bar, the staff go and fetch your order and bring it to your table. Roaring log fire, gluten free ale and a good selection of muggle beer as well :-) No hesitation in recommending

Wow. The Thomas Tallis Ale House was a recommendation from a friend on Instagram. I was in Canterbury for the afternoon and wanted someone that did decent craft beers and ciders. It was so good that my wife and I stayed the whole afternoon!
It's a little confusing when you get there as there isn't a bar. There are a couple of boards listing the beers and others that they have available and you place your order directly to the staff. They fetch it for you and bring it to your table. You even pay at your table (cards/contactless/etc payments welcome).
The offer their drinks is in thirds, halves and pints; the prices reflecting the fractions of a pint. The selection changes regularly and they even have another menu which you can get takeaway cans and bottles from.
The landlord is super friendly and incredibly knowledgeable. In the quieter moments he's happy to stand and chat with you about the beers he has on, what he's had in the past and what he might get in the future.
The Thomas Tallis Ale House will be a stop for me every time I'm in the area which frankly isn't often enough!

A classic alehouse
Aug 2019
This has to be my most favourite pub ever!! The owners have kept it as a pub for three years as it has been used for many other businesses and what a job they are doing A vast range of well kept ales that are served from a kitchen area. There are also three rooms that are quirky and give you a sense of the age of the place. I love how they sell traditional pub fare: Pork pies, Scotch eggs, cheeses and crisps. The owner was very friendly and more than happy to chat. A must see and do!
