Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My partner and I really enjoyed our visit to Chatham docks. This is where we joined the Call the midwife tour. It was very educational and interesting. Our midwife was dressed in the inform of the day. She was extremely knowledgeable and had a very enthusiastic personality and it was obvious that she was enjoying her work.

This is mainly out door locations with a couple of bits inside. The guide made it very interesting and alive. You can see how camera angles can make things look different and bigger / smaller than they look in life.

Having high expectations of this tour I can only say it was a total let down. Don’t bother going is my advice. We were treated like school children, but other than that you really see nothing. Just a few streets, buildings, quick visit to a room with some ‘props’ - out before you can say Jack Robinson and then on your boring way. Love the series, but my advice is that is if you love ‘Call the Midwife’ read about it online and don’t waste your time or money on this ‘tour’.

I'd like to say that I crossed the Atlantic for this tour, but I cannot lie: I traveled to Europe for a wedding.

However - this was the one thing on my "must" list for London. It did not disappoint.

Our "midwife" Irene was a fabulous guide, with a great sense of humor and tremendous knowledge, not only of the show but also the fascinating dockyards.

We saw numerous lanes, streets, gardens, alleys, buildings, facades, gates, and boats where "Call the Midwife" was filmed, and each place had specific script notes to remind us what happened during those storylines.

Wonderful!

Also a HUGE shout-out to the fabulous dockyard staff at the visitor center who appreciated my excitement and made my visit extra special. Thank you to Hillary, Daniel and Natalie!!! Your kindness is so greatly appreciated.

This is really not worth the money. Very bad in many ways. Our midwife tour guide was very much a Chatham Docks person rather than an actor playing the role of a midwife which is what I had thought we would get. She seemed confident when she was talking about the warships but was very nervous and self conscious as a guide. While she had watched the tv programmes the tour was all a bit random. Visit a doorway or a bit of a street (covered in scaffolding) and look at a laminated picture of a scene that was shot there.... I had expected that the guides would be in character as midwives but they're not, they just put on a modern midwife costume and spend a lot of time talking about health and safety issues. Really, really not worth £25.

Laura, our 'midwife' guide, made a very good job of bringing the sets and scenes filmed at Chatham, in to the context of the story lines. The museum section was a great addition to the tour around what is a wonderfully historic set of buildings and sea related history.

If you enjoy the series, the tour is an interesting perspective on how programmes are filmed. Whilst there are no actual sets as such, it is very interesting to walk thorough, around and between various buildings and areas that have and are used for filming. Also, to hear how certain historic buildings are disguised and used as other buildings for certain scenes.

Our 'midwife' Laura, was very knowledgable and had loads of detail about various scenes and how the area was 'dressed' for the filming. It was a thoroughly interesting tour. In addition to the tour, the ticket gives the opportunity to explore more of the site. The rope making hall where rope is still made commercially and the historic ships - after our Call the Midwife tour, we climbed on board the destroyer HMS Cavalier which has a starring role in some Call the Midwife episodes.

The new museum has the set of the dining room at Nonnatus House plus other interesting items of the period, including costumes from the series. We learnt that filming has begun on a new series..can't wait to try to spot the locations filmed at Chatham.

I would highly recommend the tour.

What a brilliant tour, we were taken round the docks at Chatham where the series (and many other movies are filmed we were told!) is filmed and there was so many familiar scenes. Unfortumnately the day we arrived Chatham council had opened up the docks to all and sundry due to the 400 year anniversary of the docks so there were thousands of people milling around. The tour guide was very good, knowledgeable and entertaining. we were shown sets that had been built around the historic buildings just for the show and you would never know was not real! also as a bonus we were shown sets and costumes that were used in the show which is only available to people on the tour and when we saw Barbera's wedding gown it bought a tear to our eye's! The tour lasts 1.5 hours and is quite a walk as the docks are so big and also the terrain is a bit rough going if you are elderly or unfirm. I would say that the tour has missed a trick as the guide was showing us pictures of the show to compare with the locations and I thought that this would make a great souvenir for the hardened fans but they were not available!

Having been brought my tour ticket by my daughter & my friend for my birthday i was very excited & looking forward to my trip.
But sadly the excitement was very short lived.
The midwife was giving us a chat before the tour started she explained that the tour would last around 60mins but on our itinerary he stated the tour would last 90mins when we questioned her about this her reply was 'Well we will see how things go!!!!.
The tour itself was a great let down there was no props to see as there was a great deal of scaffolding around as restoration work was underway.
we found that we kept back tracking on our self's & some of our group had mobility issues & i felt this was totally unnecessary as we were in the area so really no need to back track. The tour guide kept forgetting things & was talking more bout Sherlock Holmes & Oliver twist excuse me but i thought this was a call the midwife tour!!!!will not recommend this tour to anyone i found it a complete waste of time & that will be time out of life i will never get back.

I recently went on the Call the Midwife tour as a present for my mums birthday. We were both deeply disappointed. The tour was nothing as advertised. There was hardly any evidence that the show was filmed there. We only experienced 10 minutes in the prop room, and everything was out of a book. You had to visualise everything. At the end of the tour, we overheard the Tour guide say that she was wrapping the tour up early (by over 25 minutes!), as she wanted to pick her children up from school. As stated, the tour finished at least 25 minutes too early, we were extremely disappointed, and we both agreed it was NOT good value for money. After the tour, we then went into the on-site cafe. The food which we purchased has now left both myself and my mum with food poisoning. The sandwiches we had were both dry, plus the Chicken and Egg mayonnaise was warm, not cold, hence the food poisoning.

I would definitely NOT recommend this tour to anyone else!
