About
Dover Museum and Bronze Age Boat Gallery tells the story of the port and town of Dover from Neolithic times to the modern day. Displays feature local archaeological finds, models charting the development of the harbour, and our famous polar bear, known as Fred! The Dover Bronze Age Boat, the world's oldest known seagoing vessel, is displayed in its own gallery alongside an exhibition on Bronze Age life. The Special Exhibition Gallery features a new display each year. 2022's exhibition is Pastimes Through Time, telling the story of how we spent our leisure time from the Romans to the present day. The museum building also houses the White Cliffs Country (Dover, Deal and Sandwich) Visitor Information Centre, and a souvenir and gift shop. All galleries are wheelchair-accessible, and printed copies of the stairwell exhibitions are available to borrow. Admission is free.

What an interesting museum in Dover and it is free entry, donations welcome. We had a good look around this museum and really enjoyed our visit, would recommend to others. Pay and display car parking nearby.

This is a great little museum/visitor center. The staff was exceedingly friendly and helpful. The exhibit on Dover and the Channel including cross-channel swimming was very interesting. But the highlight is the amazingly well-preserved Bronze Age boat. It’s reminiscent of the Mary Rose in Portsmouth. Currently there’s a lot of construction in the immediate area so the entrance to the museum is a little hidden, but it’s well worth the effort to find it!

I felt compelled to write a review as this is a great little find in Dover, absolutely free. There are a range of artefacts here from archaeological digs that go back over a thousand years to wartime memorabilia, info about Operation Dynamo, a range of coins from different UK reigns (including a remarkably clear one of Henry VIII) and of course the star attraction, the Bronze Age boat. The museum is just the right size to be super interesting without feeling overwhelming. Highly recommended.

Very interesting and well-laid out, with lifts between the floors for those unable to manage stairs. The bronze age boat was amazing, especially the video showing how a replica of the boat was made using bronze age tools. Other displays in the museum described the area from prehistoric times onwards. There was a nice little shop at the entrance and admission was free.

This was a wonderful little museum, free of charge, with an amazing Bronze Age Boat exhibit with extensive explanantions, and a wealth of historical exhibits. We spent a full 2-3 hours absorbing all they had to offer.

I visited in January to gain a bit more insight with my personal research, and to have alook at other exhibits. The staff were very helpful, giving me some guidance for other areas of interest around Dover.
Wonderful few hours spent looking around the museum, would highly recommend.

This is a great museum to visit, it tells you the story of Dover and its people, there is a section on past times, the Bronze Age boat is fascinating. I particularly loved the third floor. But it's great overall. On the first floor, you find leaflets on things to do around. The personnel is very friendly. The entrance is free. Go there is you visit Dover!

Amazing collection of Bronze Age artifacts including most of a boat, many axe heads, and other woodworking equipment. Great local history summary of Roman influence, Norman invasion, general area trade, wartime involvement, and peoples.

You will not see this in the British museum, here only!
