- Bill MNorth Ferriby, United Kingdom133 contributionsFantastic attraction and freeAdjacent to the river in the old town, this is a hidden gem with great exhibits on show including vehicles of all descriptions and eras. Good access for families and couples young and old. Very well presented adjacent to other museum type offerings. Excellent for nostalgia and times gone bye with trams trains and buses. Vintage cars and old shops recreated for access. Good 60 - 90 minutes, tidy with pleasant staff and mandatory gift shop. Right next door to the main museum.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 21 December 2023
- Horseman397Scunthorpe, United Kingdom88 contributionsNice museumI visited with my family over half term and was pleasantly surprised that the museum seemed much bigger once inside. It’s free to enter and has a variety of exhibits that kept my teenage son entertained. It’s definitely worth an hour of your time if you are visiting the old town areaVisited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 16 February 2024
- Harry A1 contributionA great way to see a glimpse of the pastA really interesting place to visit with a great selection of things to see. Really enjoyed the old high street with the shops as they were a few years ago and the old trams and other vehicles are worth seeing too. Excellent free museum and Very well set out and imaginative displaysVisited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 27 February 2024
- Clare JStoke-on-Trent, United Kingdom89 contributionsAmazing! This museum was amazing! It’s a must for everyone of all ages. We loved reminiscing whilst checking out all the very well organised and presented shops, rooms and streets. Lovely staff too. We thoroughly enjoyed and will definitely recommend to all of our friends and family. It’s actually free admission, we would pay to spend our day here no problem. I think they’re missing a trick though - a coffee shop/tea room would be perfect here.Thank you for leaving us a review. We are so pleased that you had a good time visiting us! Your feedback about the café has been passed on to our teams. - Brad S12 contributionsGreat Street Life MusuemHad a great morning in the Museum, the staff were helpful and very chatty. The museum was very well laid out and a lot of the exhibitions were interactive and interesting. The old shops were great and brought back a lot of memories. The next time we are in Hull, i will definitely be visiting again. The musem is free to visit but we left a donation, it was that good.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 April 2024
- Bunkry LoonStonehaven, United Kingdom439 contributionsFree transport museum, great for all ages.Another free museum, this transport museum is definitely worth visiting whatever your age. Some of the displays were local to Hull and Yorkshire (tram, bus, carriages, etc) and there's a reconstructed cobbled High Street. There's a coach "ride" where you can sit inside and get a feel for what it might have felt like riding through the streets of Hull. Give yourself a good hour at least to explore.Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 28 April 2024

- CJ0hnst0nWhitburn, United Kingdom564 contributionsBrilliant, free… what a find!We stumbled across the museum quarter whilst exploring Hull on a quiet Tuesday afternoon. Streetlife is a brilliant find. No charge to enter and so much to see. Amazing to know it was all a private collector who started it. Something for everyone from carriages to street shops, bikes and cars. Make sure to go upstairs otherwise you will miss so much of the museum. Really great hour or so spent wandering around.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 7 May 2024
- Jane W24 contributionsAmazing: just go!Fantastic place, well worth a visit. The range of vehicles is extensive, and all in such great condition. The 'sets' are all superb - we loved the chemist shop and the story behind it. Can't believe it's free!Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 17 May 2024

Local school children there in groups all well behaved. Should be advertised more especially local press and in areas like Withernsea, Hornsea etc. toilet facilities are good and clean. We left reading and after five and a half hours of driving (after traffic) planned to come here before our hotel. The pictures and reviews all seemed to point to this place being fantastic and I was looking forward to coming.
We arrived half an hour earlier because the traffic on the way wasn't as bad as we had allowed for. We were told to stand outside and wait until our slot. I had a four year old and nine month old and had to stand outside in the pouring northern rain. We were under shelter but we're still getting wet as it wasn't adequate coverage. I would have understood had the 'attraction' been busy but it was almost deserted but was being policed by somebody who was very black and white- if it wasn't your time, you couldn't come in. Realistically. they could have let us in early, there was nobody else there so lower risk for us, and then on our time slot with whoever would be on that slot there would be four fewer people going round, and less risk to them too. Just an element of practicality and common sense was missing.
Eventually we went inside. Not because we were called but because people arriving after us seemed to be getting entry which I had to query as we then seemed to have been forgotten.
There were three groups going round, biggest group was us of two adults and four children. We had four people on entry all having their little bits to say about a one way system like it's totally novel, seemed very heavily overstaffed.
Once inside, it was ok. Just ok. Parts were cordoned off due to Corona virus but nobody had the sense to turn any of the signage around so you'd look at something and not really have a clue as to what it is as the signage was facing away from you. All of the exhibits upstairs were inaccessible. It took us around 10-15 minutes walking round here and that was trying to drag it out.
The pictures of this place really oversell it based on my experience. It's actually pretty boring and the awful staffing did absolutely nothing to add to it. I'm glad it is free or I'd have felt ripped off.

I can imagine this to be a good trip but not during coronavirus restrictions I wouldn't waste your time. Arrive only at the time given because if you are early you have to wait outside if you are later than 15 minutes of your time slot you have to give them all your personal details again ?
The whole of the upstairs is cordoned off, as is all the shops inside and other parts we were told it would take around an hour we dragged it out as much as possible and still only lasted 15 minutes in here, which is not worth it even if it was free.
Visit when the restrictions are lifted, I will.

Great to find out why Hull has cream telephone boxes. Good that the museums in Hull are free but still have to book online before you go in, for track and trace. Use hand sanitizer felt save and was interesting same could not see all of the museum.

We visited the Streetlife Museum of Transport in Hull during a short stay in the area, the museum is in one corner of the ‘old town’ area of the city known as ‘museum quarter’. Entrance is free though you may make a donation to the running of the museum if you so wish.
As you arrive at the museum, there are a few exhibits outside and my attention was drawn to a four wheeled rail truck used for moving cargoes of wood around Hull docks. Having visited the marina earlier and noticing the rails and short wagon turntables there, this exhibit answered some of our queries.
The main section of the museum has some recreated street scenes comprising old shop fronts and interiors and populated with trams, busses and even an airplane. The museum even boasts a small railway yard complete with signal box and level crossing. Walking around the streets with their stone cobbles gives a wonderfully ‘realistic’ feel to the experience. We had arrived just after the museum opened and as there were not too many visitors at this time, we got some lovely photos.
Upstairs, the visitor will find a museum of horse drawn carts and carriages, once again set in ‘themed’ surroundings and some with audio backgrounds for added effect. Also located on the first floor is a collection of vintage cycles and the visitor can marvel at the skill required to ride a ‘penny farthing’ type bike.
A separate landing gives elevated views over the river Hull although with the tide being out at the time of our visit this was not really a particularly scenic view.
Overall, we thought that the museum was excellent and at least some of the content should appeal to most people visiting here. We would most certainly recommend a visit here.

It took us an hour and a half to get here and we just missed our 15 min slot. Woman refused to let us in even though there was only one family in. I explained that my dad was seriously ill so she let him in with one other person only. The other family came out and she had a go at me about putting her in an awkward position. She also argued with a woman from the family that were leaving. There was noone else in the museum yet we had to sit outside. Complete lack of compassion.

Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that you didn’t enjoy your recent visit to Streetlife Museum. We have greatly reduced the visitor capacity at the museum, introduced a timed entry system and a one way route in order to make the museum Covid compliant. This means that our site does look and feel much quieter than usual but we have introduced these measures to ensure people can socially distance and safely enjoy our museum. To ensure we don’t exceed our capacity we are unable to admit visitors that arrive after their allotted 15 minute entry time, we try to accommodate late arrivals and book people in to a later time slot where availability allows, but our site can get very busy especially on weekends and this is not always possible. We are constantly reviewing our booking system in line with government advice.

We visited the museum quarter on the recommendation of a friend and were so glad we did. This street life museum is free to enter and focuses on transport through the ages and though small was a revelation! There are vehicles displayed dating back centuries and there is even a stagecoach simulator to ride in. Allow a couple of hours for your visit before finding a little coffee shop nearby, then refreshed, head into the William Wilberforce museum right next door. A great area to visit on a rainy day.

This is a free to visit attraction in Hull. What an asset. We visited on Sunday morning and enjoyed our visit with the family. There is such diversity of the exhibits and so something to interest everyone. At the time, there was a group of people in what to me looked like old fashioned clothes, but my teenage grand daughter told me that they were in Steam Punk guise. Interesting, even though I didn't know any more about them. There are exhibits of old modes of transport, buses, trams, cars and cycles. Street scenes had mock ups of shops and it was fun seeing what we remembered from our youth. I think I need to return to see what I missed this time.

Great museum to take the children. There were lots of exhibits from trams to horse drawn wagons to bicycles. The layout is interesting on two floors and there is always something different around the next corner. It deserves a second visit as ours was much too short.

Compared to many big, shiny, interactive facilities, this one is rather basic, but nonetheless sweet & engaging. 3 middle aged blokes had to laugh at ourselves when we found items which were all too familiar from our youth. It made a pleasant, light-hearted post script, to the much heavier going in the excellent Wilberforce museum next door

The staff are doing the best they can under the present difficult circumstances. You have to book a time slot even though entry is free and you are only given an hour for your visit so plainly making a long journey at the moment isn't a great idea. Come when it is fully open. We spent our full hour which is just the right amount of time. Having to wait outside when it obviously not busy is not great but it is what it is, perhaps they will alter their system. There is no cafe and the toilets are limited but we enjoyed our visit

We had to book on line, but I think you just turn up now that restrictions are lifted, you might still need face masks and distancing though.
