Set off early on a October morning as the sun was beginning to show its self over the top of the fells. The summit of Great Gable was bathed in light and was just magnificent as we set off from Wasdale Head. This is without question one of the best walks available in the Lakes. The climb is long the path... More

Highlight of our week in the Lakes this year was our walk to Great Gable via Green Gable then back through Green Gable to Brandreth and Grey Knotts. We parked at Honister Slate Quarry (£5 for the day). An OS map was essential for navigation and identifying all the Fells we saw. The walk took us up the Fleetwith fellside... More

I first took note of Great Gable when I saw it from the top of High Street nearly 30 years ago and I wondered what that great hump was standing out on the horizon wanting to be climbed. Eventually I did manage to climb it in 1992 and several times since - but not for many years until I took... More

We were almost alone as we walked up from Wasdale head to Stye Head tarn. Amazing views, tranquil and beautiful. Path well maintained and easy to find your way

We started our hike from Honister pass. Visitors should note that parking charges for the car park next to the youth hostel is 5 pounds for 3 hrs while the car park 50 yards further up has a fee of 5 pound for the whole day. There is a small free car park much before the the steep climb leading... More

You can reduce the ascent by starting at the slate mine. The going can be quite rough underfoot so good boots are useful. From Windy Gap ascend with care to summit and i hope you enjoy the view!

Amazing view of wasdale and the fells. First time up here. Typical Cumbrian fell. Didn't take as long as I thought. Sat and had packed lunch on the top and took in the views. Please take any rubbish home!!

With a window of clear weather forecast between the relentless series of Atlantic low pressure areas hitting the west coast of GB this November, I set out and copied Alexander T's route up and down this magnificent mountain. After heavy rain the previous day which had closed the A66 into Keswick, Sour Milk Gill (or Ghyll if you must adopt... More

Myself and a friend both did the hike from Seathwaite straight up Base Brown following the waterfall, after that its a nice gradual walk up to Green Gable, down windy gap and up to Great Gable. We then went down the more popular way to the tarn and back to Seathwaite. Great walk, took about 5 hours, could be done... More

I took the path from wasdale head up to the summit of Great Gable. Think I picked a good day to go. The views were stunning and it was pretty much crystal clear. It took me about 2 hours 20 mins to get to the top. The very last bit is loose and scrabbley but mainly a pleasant ascent. We... More
