Stayed in Keswick and on the last day took a leisurely 20 minute walk to the lakeside. Its a wonderful view although you have to avoid the bird poo from the ducks and canada geese when you get to the slipway at the end. There is a car park close by if you need to take a car. And of... More

We caught the 12.00 launch from Keswick to Hawse End (which is about 3/4 of the way around the lake by boat). The drizzly rain meant that we could not see too far but on the odd occasion the weather cleared we could see the hikers climbing Catbells. Walking anti-clockwise we took just on the hour to walk to Lodore.... More

We stayed within a five minute walk from this piece of heaven for three nights. Took the boat tour,(highly recommended) saw a play at the Theatre (right on the lake) and hiked as far as we could. We took the boat ride even though it was sprinkling but by the time we started hiking the sun was out. Don't let... More

Great for kids and adults alike. This lake is so flexible for walking around as you can use the launch or bus to make this as long or short as you like. You also have many options for food and drink on the way around. Try the High Ladore Farm Café for a great cup of tea and view of... More

Magnificent setting. Approx 10 miles around which can all be walked, for small parts you are not lakeside. If this is too far use the launches which are spaced around the lake or the bus which runs regularity. The walk is flat and would be suitable even for young children. Ours have been doing it, in parts, since they were... More

Visited here as part of a Mountain Goat tour on Thursday as I didn't fancy the drive myself (good decision as we had to push a car out of a ditch where the driver had misjudged the width of the track!) It was a warm, sunny day so the area was full of visitors but enough space to get a... More

Recently had a trip to Keswick where we boarded a boat which took us around the lake and we stopped off at one of the jetties far end of the lake near the big hotel. We walked from here the full length of the shore back to Keswick as it was such a beautiful day. There are many pick up/drop... More

Live locally so this lake is quite a regular walk for us. Today was lovely, the weather was amazing. We had a little picnic at the bottom end of the lake near the lodore. Public toilets near there also. We parked in Keswick the football ground. Were charging £3 for parking all day voa a honesty box. Fantastic value especially... More

We love seeing Derwent Water from the top of a fell or mountain. However, it can also be appreciated by boat, bike, car or (in the fine weather) an open top bus! The only downside if driving can be (in the summer months) trying to find a parking spot in the ever popular Keswick / Portinscale areas.

Definitely would recommend a visit to this beautiful place. We had a great few hours here and walked around the water. An absolute gem! :-) I would recommend going to the Borrowdale hotel just down the road from the Kettlewell car park. They do afternoon teas/cream teas and refreshments that are really tasty! :-)
