This was my first major hike in the national park situated between the lakes of Ullswater to the east and the Thirlmere to the west. We parked up in the pretty lake village of Glenridding by Ullswater. Parking was plentiful and only £4 for the entire day. The trail mostly consists of small boulders in parts and in others a... Decided to do Helvellyn whilst staying at Leeming House. We done the walk at the weekend when the weather was hot, dry and clear - perfect. To be honest neither of us have done much exercise lately. After checking out about Helvellyn via Striding edge and Swirral we were unsure whether to do it or not. Anyway we started our... More

Started at 8:00 in mist, its not to be undertaken unless you are a fairly experienced walker or fairly fit. The mist lifted and the sun came out. The what felt like a 1km high stone staircase was worth it for the view. Truly amazing on a clear day. Once your up you can then continue your walk across the... More

Had the perfect weather. Scaled via Lantys tarn. Well worth the effort. The views from the summat are fantastic. Sriding edge can be abit hairy but ok as long as your careful. Go prepared, buy a good guide book and wear suitable clothing.

We had a great time going up Helvellyn with our group of adults and teenagers but be aware this place has the potential for things to go very wrong. It's a dangerous place. If you have experience in hill walking and scrambling that's fine but if you go up there without the correct equipment, maps and clothing, well you're putting... More

Walked from Glenridding, via Striding Edge - intended on coming back via Swirral Edge but snow/ice made it a bit too risky so took a longer route back down to Glenridding from the north of the summit then down into the valley. Not an experienced climber or scrambler so was looking forward to the challenge and this was certainly a... More

My first visit to helvellyn was when i was a baby being carried in my dads baby carrier so i decided to revisit as an adult (i know, i left it far too long) and it did not disappoint. I was a little worried to start with but the weather was amazing and the path was easy to follow too.... More

Walked this fell from Glenridding car park , unfortunately the day I picked, the weather closed in magnificently! Set off early morning and headed off out of the top end Greenside car park £4 all day parking. Passed the Travellers Rest pub and left up a small Lane onto the fell. Up a winding ascent of rocks and boulders by... More

Went up Helvellyn today from where I'm staying at the Kings head pub/inn near Thirlmere on the A591, great spot to start from although when going up I do recommend going left and up to Brown Crag first before making your way across towards the Pile of Stones via Whiteside Bank at 863m (Ordnance Survey) Beautiful vistas of the park...
