Established in 1994, the Old Courthouse Gallery, Ambleside has become one of the leading independent contemporary arts galleries in the North of England. Occupying three floors within an historic building, the bright and welcoming gallery showcases the best arts and crafts in the Lakes and in Britain today. A range of media are featured in the gallery including wall art, wood/furniture, glass, ceramics, metalwork and jewellery, ensuring a deep and high quality range of pieces for the serious collector or the person looking for the ideal gift or memento.

I’ve discovered two new artists whose work I really love..The works that are collected are uplifting, unique, and interesting. I love their gorgeous woodworking collections and the colorful ceramics. Extremely friendly staff who was excited to share details of the artists and the art there. Lots and lots of beautiful original works of all price range.Hello & thank you for your lovely review! The quality of work is excellent. Went in out of the rain expecting a small gallery. Instead, several floors of exceptional and novel art pieces. Really wowed by what we saw. Don’t wait for the rain it’s worth your time just to see the reused cardboard animal sculptures!

What an amazing gallery!! I always go to at least one gallery in a new town and this one is definitely one of my favorites! I’ve discovered two new artists whose work I really love..The works that are collected are uplifting, unique, and interesting. I love their gorgeous woodworking collections and the colorful ceramics. We visited the Old Courthouse Gallery today. In my opinion, this is probably the best gallery in the area. The quality of work is excellent. A wde range of pictures, ceramics, glass, etc. I felt very inspired.

I went up to Ambleside specifically to visit the Old Courtyard Gallery as they were hosting an exhibition of Daniel Cooper's work. As expected , this was superb. But what was unexpected was the gallery itself. What a wonderful space. It is such an interesting and imaginative building with treasures around every corner. The works are displayed carefully and not squashed together so they can be fully appreciated. The staff were helpful without being pushy. There when you needed them but happy to give you time and space to browse. AND it is dog friendly. I came home with a beautiful piece of sculpture by Mark Smith and the longing for a table by Tim Atkinson. I will most certainly return.

Wow, everything in the gallery is eye catching and incredible- definitely worth visiting. There is something in the store for all pocketbooks and crates.

This is a lovely gallery in the heart of Ambleside. It has a large variation of media with glass, wood acrylic and many others. The prices are varied with items to suit most budgets.
