Jenkin Crag or Jenkin's Crag a long time familiar rocky outcrop and good viewpoint over Windermere Lake towards Wrey and Latterbarrow. Living in Ambleside, I'm always coming up here by the old Roman Track from Lowfold or by the footpath from Waterhead, up the lower slopes through Skellgyll woods, upon, at times, a fairly pitted or rough stoney track and... Walked from Troutbeck up to Wansfell Pike and down to Ambleside and back to Troutbeck via Jenkin Crag. Fairly easy to follow and depending on your experience and fitness not over demanding. Good choice of refreshment stops in Ambleside and some wonderful views of Windermere throughout the walk make for an excellent day out ending with an excellent pint in... More

This is an easy walk for a resonably fit person with a rewarding viewpoint. It is often visited by those going on to Wansfell or Troutbeck

A bit of a walk from any direction, but well worth it. The views are superb and you're likely to get several minutes of quiet reflection before someone else discovers the view point.

Great view over Windermere and towards Ambleside. There's a very helpful tourist centre in Ambleside and they sell walk guides for 90p, including this one

Good walk from Ambleside to an (I think originally Victorian) view point over Lake Windermere. It is a climb but suitable for children, but hang on to them if they go to near the edge! Sadly not suitable for wheelchair users or the less able.

We went to Jenkin Crag slightly unintentionally during our walk from Ambleside to Troutbeck and back, via Wansfell Pike. Jenkin Crag was an unexpected treat as the view was very pretty - if you want somewhere to stop and eat your sandwiches during a walk, this is definitely the place!

A nice stroll from Ambleside or Troutbeck with pubs and food at either end. Some rocky bits and uneven ground though the woods. Nice views over Windermere.

I always start from Troutbeck Institute and Old Post Office cafe because you get better views of Lake Windermere than if you just start at Ambleside and finish at Bowness. A short way up Robins Lane you are rewarded with the best views over the lake. The total distance to Ambleside on this very easy walk is no more than... More

This is a great little walk for those who don't want to attack a big Fell. The natural scenery on the way up is amazing and then you get there and the view will knock your socks off. It's also doable with young kids, but watch them at the edge! 😬
