Being able to climb in the huge pile of tumbling stones was a highlight of our holiday. He was so proud to give his chosen stones to loved ones afterwards. Reasonably priced activities and products. We will absolutely come back when returning to Ambleside.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 3 March 2024

- Jessie C8 contributionsBrilliant experienceMy younger son thoroughly enjoyed the rock pit, choosing his gems and then looking around the shop in awe of all the treasures. He also really enjoyed the dinosaur room. We bought my other son a lucky dip bag for £5 as he wasn't with us. He was extremely happy with the bag, it had some lovely treasures inside and it seemed to be well worth more than £5. The shop had treasures for all budgets. Both sons are excited to visit again.Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 16 June 2024

Very fun! We drove an hour to Ambleside after seeing the shop on TikTok. It was relatively quiet when we visited. The crystal pit is reasonably priced. We would recommend visiting if you are passing or plan on visiting Ambleside.

We took our grandchildren to Ambleside for the day and visited the Rock Shop. We had a fantastic time, we completed a couple of activities which they both thoroughly enjoyed. My grandson bought a hematite ring which when we got home he dropped on our tiled floor and it broke, we phoned the Rock Shop and they were really helpful and sent us another one through the post. Thank you for your help 😊. We look forward to visiting again.

My personal heaven. Absolutely full of treasures and every crystal you could want. I came back again to buy a lovely selenite lamp. The guy at the till was really friendly which was a bonus. Cant wait to visit again! Hoping I win the lottery in the meantime to buy the huge 5ft amethyst geode.

The dinosaur experience was great. Quite quick but so well done. They do advise it is for over 8s for the scare factor but the quiz is better suited to 3-6 year olds. My two loved it and we're pleased with their treasure.
We then enjoyed the rocks pool and the children loved choosing the rocks they liked and filling their bag.
It doesn't take long, but it was exactly what I expected and it was a lovely addition to our day in Ambleside.

My review is based on an experience with the staff rather than the facilities as we never got the chance to experience them. We had planned a day trip to the lake district and decided to incorporate a visit to the Rock Shop as part of this. We checked the website which states the venue was open until 5.30. We decided to visit the at the end of the day and arrived at 4.50 with 40 minutes remaining. As we were mainly interested in the dinosaur attraction we thought this would be ample time. On arriving we were informed by a member of staff that the shop was closing so we wouldn't be able to enter the dinosaur attraction. We had 2 young children who were extremely upset they would not be able to experience it. We decided to leave but before leaving I checked the website again and it said 5.30. I approached a lady who worked at the shop and asked her why the website stated they closed at 5.30, her response was 'I don't know where you have got that from because our website says we close at 5' I proceeded to show her the website on my phone, the connection was slow and it took a while and her response was ' I can wait for as long as you like to see where you got this from as I know the website says 5 as I update it myself'. I then showed her the section where the website states it shuts at 5.30. She then selected the homepage and viewed it again and it stated 5.30. She then began walking away whilst stating she doesn't know where that has come from because it states 5. After l looked into it the way the website appears on mobile phones is different to laptops. It seems they don't update their mobile site like they do their main site.
This was highly frustrating as there are many people who rely on phones and tablets to look at website and if they are giving incorrect information they can cause problems. We spent 25 minutes coming from another location to visit the area and were highly disappointed by the times and with the attitude of the lady I spoke to. There is no need to automatically become defensive and act as if I was automatically wrong and walk away after I had showed her the website.

What complete and utter nonsense
Who seriously plans to visit an attraction 40 minutes before it closes but has no problem wasting their time writing a 300 word review??
Bye 👋🏻

I have reviewed the Rockshop in Ambleside before but I thought it deserves another mention.
We have been going every year for the last 6 years maybe, its become a bit of a tradition.
Our kids are nearly 7 and 10 and still love to visit, its well worth doing all 3 activities as the 3rd one is free.

Came her with my 9 yr old daughter after seeing a leaflet in the reception where we were staying. I would say - please put the prices of the experiences on the website!! I had to ring to find these out! Given that they are only £5 each and if you book all 3 you get them all for £10, you might find you are scaring people away by NOT having this information on the site!!
Anyway we bought all 3, and got a free poster, and started in the jewellery making section. Lovely beads to choose from, but very female based.
Then moved onto the gem pit, which was brilliant! Very soothing, if a bit cold on your feet, but great that the adults can get in as well. Just be aware of people walking in the door and thinking it was free!! We had to explain it wasn't to a few people who were just ready to dive in!! Anyway we got a nice little bag filled to the brim with some fab gem stones.
Then onto the dinosaur treasure hunt. You get a torch and cap to wear and go upstairs. The sounds effects are great but far too loud and scary. my daughter, who is not scared easily refused to go in! I had to leave her on the stairs while I went in and did the treasure hunt (which is also far to easy!). When we came down even the staff said the sound effects were too loud - so turn them down please!!!
Besides this, its a lovely little place, we had it to ourselves, which was lovely actually. But turn the sounds down a little, add your prices to the website and this will be a winner!

Hi Amy
Thank you for your review.
What a great idea (adding prices to the website) i can't believe we didn't do that?!
Regarding the sound level we will also look at fixing that.
please let me know of any other ideas?
all the very best

Is the option to fill a small bag from the rock pit for kids only? Thanks!

Where can I find details of your 2020 prices for your holiday apartment please?
Written 26 September 2019
Hi Unfortunately we can't offer parking for the shop. We're only small and the 2 spaces we have are allocated for our flat guests staying above the shop.
We recommend parking 5 minutes away at Rydal Road car park
all the best
